  • $140 with Jetstar price beat?

    • Maybe yes, just investigating.

Edit: SPEWING!! One of the flights is 15 minutes outside the 1 hour window that Jetstar offers for its price beat.

      • +4

its 24 hours for international flights.

        • Leaving at a comparable time. Both flights must leave:
Within one hour of each other if they’re domestic or trans-Tasman flights
Within one hour of each other if they’re intra-Asia flights
Within the same calendar day if they’re international flights (excluding intra-Asia and trans-Tasman)

        • its 24 hours for international flights.

Does that mean 1 hour in this case… intra-Asia?

        • +2

@tightarse: Intra-Asia implies within Asia flights, e.g. SIN-DPS. MEL-DPS fits into their international policy, so 24 hours :)

        • @bangbang:

          Thanks bangbang

Bit ominous buying a one way ticket to Bali.

    • -4

what do you expect going to shithole places like that

  • +2

Great deal, how did you find this one? Was it an email or do you have alerts set up?

  • +3

    Nice!

How to live it up in Bali: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96NrIz_khQM

  • +2

Dont forget the rip off visa, $50 cash, plus another 40 or something to exit back to aus.
    But the price is great.

    • About $20 to exit (200,000Rp). So not even what you'd spend between 2 people at Maccas! Or about what it costs just to get from the airport back into Melb!

    • +2

I think this is a good point. The visa fees and departure tax will total $280 for a family of four! That is almost as much as I paid for the flights- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/186185

I don't know about you, but we are getting into Heston Blumenthal Fat Duck territory!

      • visa fees and exit fees have nothing to do with an airline, paying 1000 dollars for this ticket means you also pay the same visa fees. so it's still very much a huge bargain.

        • +1

I never said it had anything to do with the airline. The point being made is to consider this cost in any trip to Bali. Also the cost is a bit more than the suggested spend at Maccas.

        • @bargain_knight:

it's $35 USD on arrival, and 200,000 to exit. hardly anyone getting ripped off here. the comment was made on the exit fee being what 2 people would pay at mcdonalds.

        • @ShinjukuJR:
I never commented on the appropriateness of the charges, just the quantum!

    • +2

Also don't forget ripoff accommodation and food and local transport, all should be free .

  • +5

If someone wanna say good bye to Bali 9, this looks like a good deal.

    • -7

I'd be happy to pay a few bucks more if they let me pull the trigger!

      • -2

        Have some compassion, troll.

        • +2

Tell that to all the families of the lives they've destroyed by pedaling that shit!
edit: I have no sympathy at all for low life drug pushing scum like that. Do you think they give a rat's arse about the people they deal to? Or for the social environment surrounding and the crimes it inherently brings?
Don't know what part of Melbourne you're from, or how much you get out, but being from Frankston, I see this shit and what it does on a daily basis!!!

        • @Snoop:

My god, what is wrong with people. They've been remarkably rehabilitated. And for you to go further assuming I don't know the perils of drug abuse is ignorant. Of course I do, drug dealers are the lowest of lows - but to execute two people who are serving a purpose? The majority of people do not see past their own nose. Very sad.

I just find your line of thinking to be incredibly hypocritical. You won't extend the same point of view to drink drivers who run people down. It might not be deliberate, but alcohol has an immediate impact.

        • @rorymeister:
Who said I don't think that of drink drivers who commit manslaughter? Especially those with prior convictions!
Maybe a few people out there might think a little harder about committing some of these crimes if we did bring capital punishment back into this country!
That clown in Doncaster shouldn't even get a trial!

Regardless of recent political events, wouldn't go to SE Asia if you paid me, never gotten the fascination of it.

    • +9

Friendly people, great food, cheap prices… what's not to love?

      • -8

Friendly people indeed (baying for westerner blood), great food (hello ? Bali Belly exists as an urban illness for a reason), cheap (just pay with your life if you offend the wrong person).
Thanks OP for the heads up, yet some discounts are not worth the risk associated with them.
Good luck to those that are willing to take the risk and support a corrupt economy that the majority of it's inhabitants despise us.

        • +3

Not talking about Bali here - South East Asia is a lot more than just Bali.

        • +9

I lived in Bangkok for 3 years, 6 months in Mumbai, spent well over a year in Bali and travelled extensively through Malaysia/Vietnam/Cambodia etc… in the last decade and not once did I get "bali belly' or it's derivative. Nor have I offended anyone or had people baying for my blood.

Learning 4 phrases in a local language that aren't shopping related, smiling, being generically respectful of other cultures, drinking bottled water and not being someone who wants sushi or scrambled eggs in a place that NEVER serves it unless people like you ask will assure you avoid 98% of issues.

It's only my opinion, but I feel like the western attitude to SE Asia sometimes is a self fulfilling prophecy. Go with the flow where possible and smile and you'll be fine.

        • +1

          @Frood:
Well said, that's why I love it. You don't go over there to eat hamburgers or watch Neighbours!
edit: And it's not just SE Asia. There's lots of places globally that aren't to keen on (let's say Westerners, but it's more like) the English, Americans, and to an extent Australians because we go there assuming that they must speak English and serve food the way we like it here, etc!

    • It's one of those things… You don't know until you go!
I was the same… once. I used to be a little racist and thought that SE Asia was the last place on Earth I wanted to go to, that was, until I went. Back in '99, Bali was my first ever trip o/s and happy to say… was the start of some extensive travelling over the last 15 years. From the moment I touched down I wanted to live there. Just to immerse yourself in a different culture, different people, different language, different food! I can't honestly say that I want to go back there in a hurry, but that's not a reflection of how bad travelling to Bali was, but more my thinking if this place is that good what's the next place like!!!

      • I'm surprised my vote was down-voted so much and construed as rasist, couldn't be further from the truth, so much extrapolated from a statement that was a tad unfair, but people are passionate about a place and that's fair enough.

However having spoken with several family and friends that have visited various parts of SE Asia, gathered sufficient information to make an informed opinion that I will never visit that region ever, that's also not to say (as has been mentioned) there are also other parts of the world that I would never visit either.

This is no bash on the people either as the people that reside in these regions are extremely friendly people, a lot of which I have previously dealt with work.

Apologies to the sensitive types that were offended and felt the need to down vote.

        • I wasn't suggesting that it is you that is racist, I was pointing out that I may have had some racist tendencies when I was a bit younger; a bit less traveled; a bit less cultured; and that it was probably the main reason that I had no interest in heading over there!
But I'm glad I got over that, and if I was to only take in the negative stories, there's not too many places I'd be venturing!
Ps. No neg from me. I did on 086's comment though!

  • +3

why do ppl still goto bali? If its for alcohol why bother when travel insurance doesn't cover you…

    • -1

Australians go to Bali for the great beaches, as we are famous for not having any good beaches in land locked Australia.

      • i see what you did there

  • Do AirAsia now have approval for these flights? I thought they were still waiting on regulatory approval to fly MEL-DPS direct, and were still cancelling people's flights as recently as two weeks ago.

    • +1

Yes they have approval now, they operated the first flight yesterday.

  • I thought $250 return to bali with Jetstar last month was a brilliant price. i was wrong!
should I go back to bali again? I missed the airasia sale to Saigon/langkawi last time

    • Langkawi was good. Low traffic so you can hire scooters to travel everywhere.

  • +2

Good stuff, Just booked a return flight for $140 with Jetstar Price Beat. Would have used Airasia, but the flight times with Jetstar were better for me. Thanks for posting!

    • Nice work!

  • +2

Great find! Just booked mid April - $312 for 2x return.

    • I did the same late April for 2 also. How was yours so cheap (if I may ask)? Was yours without baggage?

      • +1

        Yep no food or baggage.

  • What process do people go through now days to get the Jetstar Price beat?

Is it still through that digital robot lady or can you ring up and speak to someone like you could in the old days?

    • -1

      Ringing up is better.

    • Price beat can only be done with Jetstar's online chat now. IMO it's less complicated because you don't have to repeat yourself so many times over the phone when spelling names and reading passport numbers etc. The online chat is a bit slower but much less frustrating.

  • Anyone found any dates with cheapest flight still available?
It's alot less "promo" when you have an infant once you factored in seat selections (for bassinet) and check in luggage… :(
Baby is now 4 weeks and my wife sure can do with a break.

p/s: Air Asia used to have a search function to view flight prices over 4 weeks period but it seems like they have taken that offline very recently

  • Is this only for Melbourne? What about Sydney or other cities?
