yep. definitely 850g
What's the big fuss about these? There is hardly any stat difference compared to rolled oats which are 1/5 of the price..

processed vs whole grain thingy. with rolled oats, you are only getting the inside of the oat. you miss out on a lot of vitamins & fibre in the shell (bran) of the oat and antioxidants that protect the grain from attack. you can also buy oat bran has more protein and fibre and vitamins in it than rolled oats but has a different texture.
Or get both.. Bran is cheap, rolled oats are cheap. ;)
Yes both are cheap. But cook both together and you get bran oat slop. Steel cut oats deliver quality texture with wholesome goodness.
whatever knocks your socks off. just eat oats, whatever type
for me it is 30g oat bran in a bowl, water, frozen berries on top, microwave for 2-3 mins and then a dollop of yoghurt on top to make it creamy.
@ckfun: Meh… I chuck it all in the blender, doesn't cook a bloody thing.
@ryang: oh i see, let the blender do the work, and not your jaw
they also taste different.
steel cut is more chewy and has a light nutty taste.
go for whichever you like more really

-1
both contain whole grain oats, just processed differently
nutritionally they are nearly identical
steel cut are slower to prepare/cook and chew/digest
you might be right. the uncle tobys page suggests that rolled oats are steamed and then rolled vs chopped.
oat bran is definitely a different beast though and significantly nutritionally different (imo superior).
nah, oat bran is the bestest
$2 at Coles.
Also they're imported from the US.
rolled oats are that price. I've never seen steel cut at coles before.
to why you would choose steel cut; mostly a preference thing. I like the texture and nuttiness of steel cut. I like the convenience and speed of rolled oats. I pick either one to mix it up so it doesnt get boring :)
some Coles have Bob’s Red Mill (USA) in the health food section :)
Bob's Red Mill is generally about $8/500g :)
They're not a regular item just allocations all stores will have had them, can't guarantee what stores will still have them.
edit: nevermind, label says 320g but tin is 850g
