Another very annoying thing about this is the $12.75 overseas transaction fee I paid on each $500 card. It was refunded, but I had no idea Groupon was an overseas transaction.
Email Groupon, they will compensate you.
It was refunded, but if the deal had been legit I would have paid it.
Used a hsbc credit debit card, seemed no international transaction fee. Which bank's card did you use?
Well even better for me. Used the code for a $200 voucher and checkout price was $161.50. Was charged $190 plus a $5.70 overseas transaction fee then when I called up they said it was not their policy to cancel the order. As you could imagine I was a little upset and the best they could do was escalate the request even though I mentioned the refund and post on their FB page. Groupon - never again.
@vija, Others have previously said that Groupon normally refund the overseas transaction fee if you contact them, so it might be worthwhile to do that.
You should dispute the transaction with your bank & ask for a chargeback, if Groupon refuse to refund you.
Banks prefer chargeback requests to be filed as quickly as possible, so don't let Groupon stretch out the process too long.
I was also charged (cc) full price after applying the code. I sent groupon a message and they were happy to give me groupon credit for the discount - so seems to have worked out in my case.
Perhaps try out groupons internal help system?
Groupon credit is next to worthless to a lot of people now. Who knows when is the next time they think they don't want to honor your order and cancel it.
I brought another 5% off woolworths card with the credit so the savings works out pretty similar to what the original deal intended
@idjces: only if they honour it. Have you received the egift card yet?
edit: how is it similar when you got only 5% discount on the first order and had to use the Groupon credit for the second lot of gift cards unless you are refunded the first lot + Groupon credit.
I payed for the $500 gift card, was charged the full $475 despite entering the code. Groupon credited 15% of that amount - $71.25 (yes i realize there was meant to be a $50 discount cap).
Purchased a $100 gift card which after credit cost $23.75. Net result $498.75 for $600 of gift cards, pretty close to the savings mentioned in the OP - assuming they're processed (have had no notifications or refunds to suggest otherwise)
@idjces: that is 16% discount compared with original 19%. Ya pretty close but that is because Groupon made a mistake giving you $71 credit.
@idjces:
update - both cards arrived, looks like they work everywhere except big w online, so it appears they are not restricted to groceries only
Used a hsbc credit debit card, seemed no international transaction fee. Which bank's card did you use?
I paid via PayPal and the refund went into my PayPal balance instead of straight into my bank account/debit card. So check your PayPal balance :D
lol… too generous
