Highest Denomination Prepaid Visa/Mastercards at Coles/Woolworth

Been going through AFF and OzBargain to try and look for the highest denomination Visa/Mastercard that one can buy at Coles/Woolies.

Last report was as of October 2014, you can buy $250 Flightcentre Visa Giftcards at the cost of $7.95 or $150.00 ones for $5.95. Apparently the Flightcentre ones are not sold anymore, and Coles has $100.00 cards that cost $5.95 and Woolworth has $100.00 cards that cost $4.95.

Can anyone find any other high denomination prepaid credit cards at either Coles or Woolworth?

Why would someone want to pay $5.95 to get the same amount of money? Mainly to gain frequent flyer points and pay with Amex effectively using prepaid Visa/Mastercard at places where they don't accept Amex.

edited: Sorry was looking at old link. this should be good. purchase fee $6.95, max load on card $999. Can be reloaded free. Transaction fee: 9 cents per transaction. Check the other fees as there seems to be a few. But looks like this could work.

Also theres a non reloadable card for 5.95, with max load on card $500 bucks and looks like no transaction fee. Could be useful if other card doesn't 'work' properly.

  • why don't you get the westpac altitude credit cards where you get issued both an amex and a mastercard linked to the same account and points program?

"…both an amex and a mastercard linked to the same account and points program?"

Actually, the two cards you get are not linked to the same points program. For the Wespac Altitude cards, you do get issued an AMEX and either a MC or VISA, but in each case the non-AMEX of the two cards only earns half or less points than the AMEX card linked to the same account, per dollar spent.

      • i'll rephrase, the points you accrue (3 for amex, 1.25 for master) go into the same program. It's better this way as you only need to worry about the one account.

        • "… 3 for amex, 1.25 for master"

Actually, it's 1.5 for AMEX, and 0.625 for MasterCard.

        • @GnarlyKnuckles: depends if you're after Qantas flights only. i like to have options so i go for the altitude which you can convert to many airlines such as singapore, emirates etc…if it's miles you're talking about then thean 1.5/.625

        • @roiboi123:
What I'm talking about is the amount of QFF points you get… Not miles, qantas flights, or anything else. Just QFF points.

As usual, I can't really work out what you are talking about.

@GnarlyKnuckles: oh because everybody here is talking about QFF. Actually it's just you…last i checked AFF is for all reward programs…btw i came on here to offer an opinion for the OP's problem of getting points at places which don't accept amex. For some reason you've come here to debate points accrual rates even though i said in my first comment that the cards allow you to accrue points to the same program. No where did i say you accumulate at the same rate…

  • As far as a simple prepaid-only card is concerned, the Woolworths Prepaid Mastercard remains the best option - at the $4.95 that you mention.
When introduced (about 5 years ago), they were a dollar cheaper and for a while allowed a maximum load of $1000 - now $500.

In jaybmate's post above, the Australia Post Reloadable Visa is mentioned.
If you want to give someone a giftcard; want the value to be above $500, but don't wish to give more than a single card - the Aus Post card can be given and used solely within the parameters that apply to prepaid-only cards.

Giving cash (in some cultures anyway!) can be awkward. Asking people for their bank account details for the purposes of plonking money in it, similarly so.

I recently gave a relative a max load Aus Post reloadable card. When purchasing the card, you need to provide a mobile number (I provided theirs), a six-digit number and a memorable word. Passed on, they then have the choice of registering the card online so that it can be used, ongoing, as a proper reloadable card - or they can use it as a (still loadable) (longer expiry-date) card, but otherwise within the restrictions of a purely prepaid one. Balance checks via SMS on their mobile at 25c a time if they choose that path.
