$100 off and (Maybe) $50 Voucher for Comprehensive Car AAMI Insurance

114

Sign up online for comprehensive insurance at AAMI and get $100 off.

PLUS save your quote and let it sit there for about 3 days
and they'll (probably) sweeten the deal with a $50 gift card.

They sent me 1 email saying "don't forget your quote" the next day.
Then a couple of days later an offer for…
$50 gift card at one of Myer, JB-HiFi or Hoyts if I sign up soon.

I got my renewal notice from AAMI (i've used them for a few years)…
Online deal was much cheaper than my renewal premium.

And, for me, as I have a shtty old car… $278 premium -$100 -$50 makes
this years insurance about $128. :)

Two other points:

1) You might find your premium is lower, if you have comprehensive, rather than just third party property. Is for me.

2) High excess saves you loads of money, if you are happy to take that hit. Personally I hate filling in paperwork etc. If you ever actually claim on insurance they'll put your premiums up anyway, so,
unless I fall asleep and side swipe a row of porsches
I'll probably never bother making a claim.

No deal. All companies offer a default online discount which they already include in the quote.
"Hoping" they might offer you an additional discount is not a deal. This should be in the forums.

As dynamike said, this has been their default practice for online quotes for as long as I can remember(years). There is also no guarantee they'll offer extra discounts as I obtained a quote last week that I didn't go ahead with at the time and haven't had any extra offers since. It's handy to know they might send something if you're lucky, but I don't think any of this constitutes a specific bargain sorry!

not cheap for me but another tip, when picking the agreed value try $1 less than the default as in if you want $10000 try $9999 or $4999 not $5000 as they increase in premium seems to be in $500 lots so you can get $4999 at the same price as $4500 etc.

  • I don't know why, but AAMI always comes out super expensive for me with auto quotes.

    Single male, 30's, no prior claims. Small size 2010 SUV. Comprehensive insurance with 15000km & $700 excess = $698/year, minus $100 = $598/year.

I insured with Woolworths earlier this year for ~$450 odd - $100 gift voucher = $350 odd.

How do do you get it so cheap?!

    • Try Coles or youi …you will get a much better deal..currently I have a 2010 escape with Coles for $266.market value 600 excess.

Yeah right…. just tried Coles my quote came to $3200 a year. Im currently paying $100 a month with Allianz.

        • What the hell are you driving?

        • @crohns:

you'd think i'm driving a Ferrari. Its a neg from me

          i have a vw golf 6 btw.

    • Did you try progressive?

I was with AAMI for more than 8 years. My insurance premium kept going up every year. I asked if they could reduce it. The customer service staff is super rude. "We don't reduce our premium no we do price match" that was the answer.

A friend of mine recommended Progressive. Now I pay only $435.

For me Woolworths and Coles were bit expensive than progressive.

      • Yeah im set with my current insurance for the next 6 months (Woolworths) before I'm going to need to search around again.

I was just wondering how/if other people found AAMI was cheaper since it was posted here. Looks like most people have found cheaper than AAMI

        :)

        • They used to be cheaper than NRMA. That was pre-woolwarths/coles era :)

I switched from AAMI a few years back and saved over $300 by insuring with somebody else… NO BARGAIN

    • With who?

that particular car was with Coles Insurance…

Ditto. 3 different vehicles of varying value - 2 comprehensive, 1 3PP - in the family, all saved hundreds by dropping AAMI. Gave the new AAMI owners chances to get close but nothing doing. Guess the numbers of subscribers have been dropping significantly. Too little too late if they're now prepared to negotiate. Also dropped them for the home.

  • AAMI is always cheaper for me. Even comparing to Coles and WW. Rating 1 for life with a 2007 Outlander.

    • Same.

    • Not for me. Every renewal was expensive and things like "rating 1 for life" and the years I'd been a policy holder gave me no real discount compared to signing up as a brand new customer. I left.

  • Cheers, will give it a go…definitely saved $100 from a ring up quote I got a week ago….will wait for my $50 gift card offer :)

    • You've been on OB for 5 years and didn't know it's always cheaper to get insurance online???

  • +3

I dont think its a bargain. its just a statement they are making to lure customers when the actual quote im getting is hundreds of $$$ more than what im paying already.

    • Absolutely right. Last year I signed up for NRMA insurance. A day later they've introduced a $50 discount campaign. Thought I got screwed until I compared the new quote with the $50 discount to what I paid the day before. It was $19 MORE expensive including the discount. Catch 22 is that at renewal time you'd pay the additional price on top of the more expensive rate.

Coles generally beats any quote by $100.

    • Not any. you have to be over 30 years of age. Contrary, Wooworths will beat price by $100 and age has to be over $25. Some facts to ponder upon.

      • You right.
Wonder how low you get your insurance if you played them against each other.

  • No deal simply this is an online discount for everyone and as previous mentioned, $50 maybe is also not classified as a deal.

I personally find big names such as AAMI (and other Suncorp Group providers) and NRMA are easier to deal with when it comes to making a claim (personal experience and friends/relatives). As well the flexibility to choose your repairer, and so on… I know someone who is still in the process of arguing with a budget insurance provider on a claim where the insurance provider has ruled that both parties are at fault, hence need to pay. The incident is likely to weight more towards a "not at fault" claim.

Knowing majority of ozbargainers are opinion provider, i would provide the detail as FYI (not for discussion) on the incident. The person who i know was driving on a quiet street (single lane, two way traffic) at the speed limit, and another car travelling from behind, sped up and tried overtaking on the other lane. When the other car was merging back, his/her slammed into the front diver's side of my friend's car.

Premium is one factor for consideration, the finer details and claiming process is equally important. The bigger names are likely to be more expensive, but possibly makes life less stressful when things happen.

  • Deal :)

  • I just switched from Progressive ($750/year) to AAMI ($550/year) last week. Also received the $50 JB HiFi Giftcard. So it cost me $500. Tried online quote from Coles, given a quote of $2500.
