Saw this on the JB HiFi site. Not as good as last months Dick Smith deal but >$100 cheaper than Mobicity, TGG etc currently.

Claims to have 100% stock, but not sure what 100% is the balance of - 1, 10, 100?.

  • This phone is now two years old, which is a lot. It has a snapdragon 600 chipset, which is also not quite up to scratch. Grey imports sell for about $325. I would imagine an LG G2 would be better value around that price point.

I'd probably tend to agree, if you can find one though.

Been looking for a ~$400 phone, Aus stock with expandable memory and there are slim pickings :/. Would love to hear alternatives!

      • Samsung Galaxy S4 is the main one in that price point with expandable mem the others would be some sony xperia z2's (grey imports) and the Z1, i have this HTC one in 64gig and i havent even used 32 gig so i wouldn't put too much emphasis on expandable memory when talking about 32gig and over phones :)

According to the comments, the LTE bands on that don't support Telstra 4G, plus it's not Australian stock either.

Not to say it's not a good deal, just not what I'm looking for.

        • @downforce: no they dont from what i've looked into, if your ok with no expandable memory then i would say LG G2 over the S4 or the xperia :) You can find them around the $350-$400 fairly easily in grey import and just over 400 for aus stock.

LG G Pro2 is a better option…. I own this hanset and updated to Lollipop last week and it's blazing fast.

I have an HTC One M7 and it's by far the best smart phone I've owned (apart from the camera).
        Previous to this I've had:
Samsung Galaxy S - Great for a year, then became excruciatingly slow.
Samsung Galaxy S3 - Great for a year, then random freezes and reboots.
Nokia Lumia 920 - Very pretty phone, screen, a shame it runs on Windows Phone OS.

I've learnt three things from the last five years of smart phone use:
        1. Samsung make phones that last only 1 year.
        2. Windows Phone OS is not for me.
        3. HTC make great phones (well, at least the One M7 is great).

I might upgrade to the M9 this year, but the way it's going I feel that the M7 is still powerful enough for me to last until next year. But the camera sucks.

yeah. they are excellent phones but the camera sucks too much.
          the purple effect.. yuck..

        • @superbass:

          My camera is great :p

        • @superbass:
          I don't get a purple effect, I get a grainy effect.

        • +1

Camera on mine is not the best quality but def not purple.

Battery life is short for me too.

But perfomance, screen, sound, structural stability and design is in a class of its own for that era phone. Such a pleasant experience, adds to android and doesn't subtract from it. The only iPhone beater imo.

I got an Xperia Z1 during the 15% off eBay. It has a quad-core snapdragon 800, and 2GB of RAM. The camera is extremely good, as it has a "bridge-sensor" (in between point-and-shoot and SLR). But some occasional stability issues with the camera app. I got that model because I also require expandable memory. Would otherwise have gone for Xiaomi MI7. The Z1's go for around $400, but grey imports mostly.

      • I'm in the same boat.

I have this phone and its easily the best phone i owned, however Make it so is correct it is 2 years old! and the camera does eventually start to play up (known problem)… id def go for the LG G2 in this price point, not hard to find them and some Aus stock are priced fairly close :)

Pretty terrible price for a phone this old.

Have been using this phone for almost 1.5 yrs now. Working perfectly fine, have used the camera a lot (maybe clicked more than 2000 pics). One thing I have made sure is not to update the firmware pushed by the cellular operators. Have seen good phones go bad after the firmware update since they want you to dump your old phone and buy their latest release.

    • I have current OTA fireware and it's running fine.

      • +1

Is the camera quality still good, as in same as it used to be when the phone was new?
There are many news articles that claim that all big companies like Apple, Samsung, etc push out updates before their new launch that slows down their existing phones.

        • +1

It's as good as it ever has been. I was never a huge fan of the IQ from the start though. Looks fine on the 4.7" screen, but anything bigger and iphone/sony/samsung blow it out of the water.

If anything the GUI has improved as they made zoe less integral and made switching between front and back camera's easier.

Samsung's tw sucks from day 1. Supposedly i was reading that they are working hard to improve the speed of tw. The beauty of android you aren't forced into updating if you don't want. The one m7 still performs great on the latest version. Htc always seem to do a great job with sense.

  • I think the m7 is the best phone I've owned. I actually in some ways regret replacing it. Its still a phenomenal phone today, and still being updated by htc. I don't think its worth paying 400 for one though. I guess with the aud losing value, the days of the 500 dollar current gen grey import flagship might be over.
