Fitbit Surge $296.65 @ Dicksmith Online or Instore S or L

100

DSE has 15% off fitness gear, bringing the Surge fitness tracker band down to $296.65: click for Large or Small.

@@At 4:14pm today (Valentines day), DSE has a further 14% off with coupon code SHOWLOVE. This sale only lasts 14 minutes! See more details here. If the discounts stack, this will bring the Surge down to an unbeatable $255.12 !

The lesser model (Charge HR - with smaller screen and no GPS) is also on sale @ $169.15: see ozbargain post here.

EDIT: See the very in-depth review of DC Rainmaker (fitness watch review hero).

My summary: great sleep and general activity tracker, which works well enough for runs and basic exercise. It's not a precision tool, not for your triathlete, but great for the weekend warrior as it is super convenient (strapless HR tracking via optics), combined with GPS, step measurement, some basic messaging/call notifications and great integration with the fitbit app.

Fitbit Surge is a multisport watch with no cycling mode and has to be taken off when showering or swimming. I can see some pitfalls right there.

    • Yes & no - no cycling mode, and it sucks if that's your use. Seems to be software that's lagging behind for cycling, and fitbit has said they will be updating it.

RE: waterproof - seems fine in real world immersion tests and in shower etc, I think it's just a liability thing.

every review I have seen says (including the one above) the HR monitor is off under stress (when you want it) and the GPS is wonky … perhaps stepping up to a better watch will suit people (thee arn't cheap) or down to the lower model so your not paying for bad GPS. I was really keen on one of these but until the fix it I'm holding onto my cash.

  • Still no XL sized units available worldwide, even on their website. They advised it will be "soon" with no date.

Aren't all these fitness trackers wildly inaccurate

    • Wrist ones aren't as accurate for steps as the pedometer based ones.
My fitbit One is pretty good, and just stays in my pocket. I prefer to wear a nice watch to the fitness bands.

From the link below by ms - http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=2108876

The Fitbit One and Zip were the most accurate.

    • They 're expensive knock- off of my existing Xia-bit band->$2X.00 13/02

  • would recommend doing the sizing tool test https://www.fitbit.com/content/assets/surge/surge_sizing_guiā€¦ before buying.
I normally where a Fitbit Force comfortably in a large but in the Surge I would need an XL.

did you stand in the store and grab someone in 14min window?

  • The waterproofing is a let down. Probably the next generation or another brand would do it. Also the HR monitor is not very reliable for what I read.
