Nabbit

Hi my name is Mitchell,

I have just launched Nabbit: I have had a few OzBarginers like mskeggs help me out with testing and giving feedback on this app so I thought I would give it to the OzBargainers for free first!

The app is called Nabbit and it gives you the power to win cash & prizes while you do your shopping by simply scanning the product barcode! It also has the best shopping list functionality with over 50,000 Australian products to help you organize your shopping for the week.

I’m really trying to help young families like mine get rewarded and win prizes for doing their weekly shopping.

It’s totally free now so if you could download Nabbit it would really help me out and I hope it helps you too.

Nabbit

Thanks so much,

Mitchell.

Mod: Deal is for a free app that will usually be paid, not for what the app entails. Thanks

Unless every scan of every purchase guarantees a prize, this belongs in the competition section.

    Always free, competition and spam..

The App has only just launched yesterday. I could have put it up in the app store for $3.99 and then made it free an hour later but that is to deceptive for my liking. In 2 weeks I will be making the cost of the app $3.99.

I also have no idea how you can call this SPAM? I am a person, the creator of the app who has worked with many users on this site posting this? I have not posted this on any other site.

If you don't like it don't download it but please don't spread your negativity.

      Thanks,

      Mitchell

      • I bet one of 2 things happen

        1. You dont ever increase the price (as we seen many times before)
          e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147291

        2. You increase the price and no one buys/downloads the apps

Sorry when you come here looking for free advertising for your app you have to take the negative comments with the positive ones. Guess we will see at the end of Feb what happens.

        • You don't need to apologize - you are right, this is free advertising and I have been in the game long enough to know it comes with the territory.

I'm always open to constructive feedback, you are right, we will see what happens in Feb, it is still free now though.

          Cheer.

        • Posted this offer anywhere else… seems like you have a little too much time on your hands there hey? Posting my personal Linked in profile? That's fine, keep Google'ing me. I am just trying to start a business…

          What have you done today?

        • @nabbit:

It takes about 1 minute to type "Nabbit shopping app" in google. I sometimes do that when I doubt what I read.

Nothing wrong with starting a business. nothing wrong with coming here and promoting a business either, so long as the vendor is sincere.

          What have you done today?

From experience: aggression isn't going to do you any favors here.

And out of pure curiosity, what happened to reversebay.com.au?

        • I sold the business

I’m really trying to help young families

Older families, singles, pensioners etc also would benefit

    • +2

disappointed the old "working families" didn't get a mention!!

      • +1

They already got their bargains from all sides last election. Its the non working that need help :)

    • This is true - I may change that sentence so I don't exclude anyone, the app is open to all! haha

      Thanks for your comment.

Let me get this right. Eventually you need to buy this app to enter competitions but currently the app is free so its a deal?

    • +1

Really guy's cut them some slack, lets see how it pans out. The OP did say he had two paths to follow. Make it paid, then offer free for a few weeks. Then that will "qualify" for an Ozbargain listing, or make it free then up price later.

Sure we have to trust them it will be charged for later, but it's not as if they are abusing things here

I scanned 5 products and the app couldn't match any of them. seems useless…

      Gravox Finishing Sauce
      Berocca
      Pecklish Rice Crackers
      Nice & Natural Muesli Bars
      Vicks vapoDrops

  • +1

Thanks for your feeback. That is strange, we have most of those products in the database:

    Gravox
    Berocca
    Vicks

Were you scanning the product barcode? OR searching the database?

    Thanks again.

    Mitchell

    • scanning the bar code and it said product not found for all of them.

  • What's the privacy policy like?

    I have just launched Nabbit

Then you're a store rep, not associated.

    • -1

You can read the privacy policy either within the app or the website under 'Privacy Policy'

      ;)

      • +1

Where would that link be on your website? I'm on http://nabbit.com.au/ but i can't see anything

      • There is no 'Privacy Policy' on the website. So it appears the expectation is you have to download and install the app first, then find out what you have just signed up to? Or maybe there is no Privacy Policy in the app either so you never find out….

Despite my username in the post, I am not associated.
I tried out the app during testing.
What it does is automate entering grocery manufacturers contests, and keep a shopping list.
If you enter comps, I can see this might be useful.
I suspect the longer term plan is to try and get some sort of payment from the grocery companies if the app proves popular.

I am a bit sympathetic to the lkicking this is getting in the comments. The author is just a guy trying to do something, he isn't a global conglomerate.

    • The author is just a guy trying to do something

No objection there. But as far as i understand this app, it's trying to accumulate data on my shopping habits, dare i say including location, which could be sold onto 3rd parties in exchange for entering a contest that most likely i can enter without the app.
And i expect that to be a deal, since i don't have to pay for the privilege yet?

I may be wrong, but the lack of privacy policy and any other information such as T&C on the website makes me VERY suspicious.

Since you tested it, let me ask you… was age verification done in the app? Some contests are 18+. Geo based info must be part of it as contests are sometimes state based.

Edit: on reddit (see link above):

This is more a prototype for my main idea, we will be looking to integrate localized offers and consumer promotions (activated by scanning the product barcode) we will also mine the shopping list data and sell the insights to the like of Unilever, P&G etc.

That, without having a privacy policy available prior to purchasing this app (I know it's free now) is deceptive, IMO

  • Sharing personal / location data AND waste time scanning items, most which I probably wouldn't buy, in exchange for the privilege of entering some crappy contests? I don't think so, and I am still struggling to work out how this represents a bargain.

  • Doesn"t work, already tried like 5 items and nothing came up, I scannd cetaohil Moisturising Lotion 500 mL, selley's no gaps, and a liquid whiteout from paper mate!
