      The GameCube adapter connects to the Wii U using 2 USB plugs. The 2 plugs must be used as once provides the power and the other provides the "connection" from what I understand.

      You can then plug in GameCube controllers into that to play Smash Bros.

      The controller in this post is not compatible with the GameCube adapter, as it only connects to a Wii Remote as an accessory (like a Nunchuk)

        It's been noted that you can get away with just using 1 port but will sacrifice rumble. This has been used by those who use two adapters whilst using an external Hard drive for the total 4 ports the Wii U has.

        Yes. You plug those into a Wii remote.
