Vaya Just Switched Me to 4G

Am on a $29 month to month plan with vaya which is one of their old plans (unlim calls, texts, 4gb data and $100 intl calls) but was restricted to 3G. As of yesterday now switched to 4g! Not complaining but wondering if anyone else has had the same? Wonder if it means they will boot me off their old plan :/

  • You're probably coming up to 24 months on your old plan.
They did the same to me in August last year.
In a week's time, you'll get an email with the "good news" that you'll be switched to 4G and can keep your current plan for only $10/month extra.
Added to the new $20 "Security Deposit" it's worth investigating alternative providers I reckon.

$39 a month for 4gb of 4g data and $100 of intl calls still better than say a spintel of 2.5gb with no intl calls though

Like I said, investigate alternatives.. Sounds like your needs are pretty specific. Amaysim might be worth looking at.

  • My two years is up at the end of this month. I'm expecting to get told I can't stay on my $11 cap anymore too - at $21 per month I'd rather be on SpinTel.

    • I'm in the same boat. My $7 plan will probably be gone. Hubby's $11 plan also on its way out as the 24 months are up. Just curious, why SpinTel vs staying with Vaya's 4G plan? SpinTel reviews look horrible, but then again Vaya hasn't got the greatest of reviews either.

Mainly because I'm very unhappy with Vaya's blatant $20 cash grab which to me indicates that they are teetering on the edge of insolvency and might go under á la ISPOne, the Conec2 Group of Companies, and One.Tel before that.

EDIT - what poor reviews of SpinTel are you referring to? I've seen mostly positive comments on Whirlpool.

Sorry, that was meant to be a reply to Xyron's comment above.

Just checked out Spintel but as I'm a very low user I'll probably go with Telechoice's $12.50 plan to replace my $7 plan. Also, sorry for derailing this thread too. I'm fairly sure when your 2 years are up, you will be booted off your old 3G plan ASAP. After all, Vaya seems to really be needing cash at the moment.

If you're brave, try GT Mobile… Dirt cheap calls, and data on Telstra 3G.
It was mentioned on the other Vaya thread and got me (and RockyRaccoon) interested.
RockyRaccoon has started another thread about it here.

  • Seems a lot of the SpinTel complaints really centre around their broadband services, not their mobile services. They also seem to emanate from the average punters who still think its appropriate to call their provider when they have a problem - I've had no problem with SpinTel's online chat by comparison. I wouldn't be expecting any better phone support from Vaya, and indeed I have never bothered to call them.

    • The missus is on spintel. Works really well actually.

  • Ok so my time is up, got the email I was dreading…

So the question is now…alternatives? I'm hanging out for amaysim to release their 4G plans…

    • I'm in the same boat - had 4G activated about a month ago, and got my email today.

Wifey is suggesting amaysim, as she was happy with them when she was on them before, but I'm with you - now I have 4G I'm reluctant to give it up!

      • well $44 for 3g and 2 extra gig is a hard call against 4g and 3gb

Ended up going with Vodafone SIM only $50 which is month-to-month post-paid.

Current offer of $5 off, so it comes to $45. Unlimited national calls and text, 300 minutes international, 3GB data. However online purchase gives extra 1GB data, and my wife has a student card which gives another 1GB data for first 12 months, so total 5GB data for first 12 months and 4GB thereafter.

  • amaysim just released their 4G plans. Timing is everything :D
