As you may know, there are some many different version of SJ4000 on the market, some of them are marketing their own product as "Genuine" or "Official" and etc.
Please be aware, there is no so call genuine or official SJ4000, because the SJ4000 is a non-branded product.
The fact is that,in China there are a lot of factory manufacturing the same product call SJ4000, and they're selling at the different price range from $30 - $100 (Some self branded SJ4000 might sell at higher price). What's their different? The most important difference is the chipset, the most popular chipset used in sport camera include Ambarella (which GoPro is using),Novatek,Zoran,Sunplus,STK,SQ. As I known, Novatek, Sunplus, STK are used in SJ4000.
In these chipset, the Novatek (Model: NT96650) is the best in the line, which is the one I'm offering today.

After applying the coupon, the final price is:
US$53.19 Free Shipping to Australia, on todays fx rate, it's approximate AU$68.7.

  • Hi,
Can you prove if it's a Novatek NT96650?

    • You may disassemble it … :)

  • So which chipset does this particular model use?
Never mind. Just read your full post.

  • As the OP said there is a lot of confusion regarding the sj4000 originals and copies and and there are some good ones and some bad ones.
Most of the problems and discussion of the sj4000 copies is covered in the sj4000 owners thread on rc groups
There is also a discussion on the techmoan site about sj4000 and its copies.
I have an original sj4000 made by SJCAM that I am happy with, but judging by the posts on the above threads there appears to be a lot of unhappy people about. .

    • +1

The SJCAM one is good. It's also novatek. :)

  • How about the warranty ? I am looking to buy waterproof camera or kind of GoPro Camera for my holidays.

Is it good ? Any review ?

  • There is a review here of the SJCAM brand sj4000
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnHDu-oW7_Y
This is a review of the SJCAM brand one -
**This review would not apply to all sj4000s since the sj4000 are now are made by numerous companies.

Have a read/skim through the rc groups thread on the sjcam and its copies
    http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2090990
the last 50 pages or so of the 300 in the thread mainly talk about the problems with some of the varients or others.

SJ4000 has amazing history, so many ripoffs and this one looks like another fake.

As you can see the rep doesn't mention "SJCAM", which is the company manufacturing the original SJ4000 cameras. Another HUGE alarm bell should be the missing "SJCAM" logo on the front of the camera. You can see what you should be looking for here:

    http://www.sjcam.com/en/cameras/9-sj4000-full-hd-1080p-water…

and probably safest to buy from sjcam.com

I'm negging this, based on my disapproval of fakes. This one is not even cheap.

    • Apparently the early batch of real SJ4000 do not have the "SJCAM" branding on them, it is only after there are numerous fake copies popping up all over the net then SJCAM started putting "SJCAM" brand on their cams. Having said that because there are just too many fake copies out on the market now, it is so hard to tell the fake from the real, plus I am not even sure some fakes also utilising the Novatek chipset too, I would not buy an SJ4000 at all. Better to look at M10 (cube form factor but same internal components), SJ5000 (has better Panasonic lens. Again make sure it is the real SJCAM, not fake e.g. Amkov), SJ5000+ (has the Panasonic lens and more powerful Ambarella chipset, but not really recommending it at the moment due to numerous bugs) or Dazzne P2 (similar to SJ5000 but cheaper).

      • The early batch of real SJ4000 without logos are long gone. Sold. Forgotten.

As I said - buying directly from sjcam.com should be the safest way to avoid fakes.

Got my SJ5000+ few weeks ago, not sure what bugs you are talking about (if we exclude LinkinEyes ;) ) - the camera is great.

        • Have a read on different users's experience and bugs they encountered in the rcgroups forum - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2299293

        • Actually, SJ4000s without the SJCAM logo are still made by the "SJCAM manufacturer", Shenzhen Hongfeng Century Technology Ltd. Have a look at this video of a visit to the factory (Nov. 2014) - you'll see both branded and unbranded camera face plates. Unfortunately, that doesn't help to establish product authenticity.

        • where did u order your SJ5000+ and price? thanks

    • Hmm, pretty tempting for that price ($79)

Forgive my ignorance, but what does the WiFi model do ($99)?

      • +1

WiFi models can be controlled from mobile devices via app (android/ios). Very useful for taking selfies (with a stick) or adjusting your camera. Drains the battery more, so if you are not using it - switch the wifi off.

  • My SJ4000 is honestly as good (or better) than my GoPro Hero2.
I bought it early days (non wifi).

  • at this price, you may as well get a wifi version for extra $6 from aliexpress
    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Action-Camera-Full-HD-DVR-Spo…

    • As I mentioned in the original post, the chipset is important, some sj4000 using STK chip are sold around $30…

  • I bought one, but now I'm really confused if I get a genuine product… paid by PayPal, so maybe there is a chance to get money back if that will be a totally crappy fake?

  • Recieved bad customer service from this store. Would not buy again

  • So essentially this is a knock off (FAKE) of the SJCAM SJ4000 camera?

  • For this type of camera and the waterproof Nikon, Canon or Panasonic camera, which one is better ?

  • saw the newest model SJ6000, but its not on their offcial website, how can you tell if they're fake or not? Thanks

    • There is no genuine SJ6000, all so-called SJ6000 are fakes. The latest genuine SJCAM models are SJ5000 and SJ5000+.
