        • +2

          @bchliu:

And what does that have to do with Australian airlines?

        • +1

@havok44: I honestly laughed out loud from this thread.

    • +1

Is your name Elzar by any chance?

  • OP,

    MISLEADING. Add "EACH" to title.

    • +2

      Why "EACH"?

Just did a dummy booking, the price IS for two people.

        • Yeah that old title was horrid. I was about to link a friend!

  • looking looking…..

      Said Con the fruiterer

  • +12

kind of sucks, when you travel by yourself.

    forever alone…

    • +2

      Shout Ur mom or dad?

      • -5

Your mum is so fat she ate your spelling homework.
        (No offence). :)

        • Why…

        • @fareseru:
… so she does not have to do any more home work.

      • they are already going.. they bought tickets for the 2 for 1 last time

        • lol sounds like you're in similar position as me - my daughter takes my wife "sorry dad - it's only for 2"
… I just pass on the bargain - I don't get to enjoy it!

    • +1

All my travel buddies are mostly with partners for that now :(.

      • +21

        OzBargain Japan Meetup?

        • +1

These 2 for 1 deals seem to be just here to tease the OZB travellers that don't have travel buddies. Maybe I can do 2 for 1 and have 2 seats to myself. :P

An OZB overseas meet-up would be pretty cool.

        • @JayM:

lol, I like the way you think. =)

one for my left cheek, one for my right cheek… also have an uncomfortable gap inbetween…

        • @ProjectZero:

That extra buckle in the middle has got to go somewhere…..

On the way to the US I had a whole centre row of 4 to myself, left cheek, right cheek, ?, ?

        • @JayM:

Lol had that once on a flight back from HK.

Feet, ass, torso and head =)

        • @ProjectZero:

It's awesome if you don't mind buckles in your side and if you can't sleep, the flight crew take pity on you and give you everyone else's snacks :).

My feet hung off the edge and kept getting knocked by people and 2 of my hard earned pillows were stolen.

        • +1

thats a really good idea.. there should be a forum for people flying from/to the same destination.

        • That would be great. Then we can share whatever cheap discounts we find in Japan

      • Anyone in Brisbane keen to travel/backpack?

    • I hear ya man. Most of my friends are all married, settled down, kids etc.. And I'm more concerned about planning my next trip. Wouldn't have it any other way though :)

      • Same except they're not setting down, just not interested in travel

        • thats absurd.. who doesn't want to travel?!

I've given up on em.. i understand when they have no leave.. but when they say no cash or cbfd, i get annoyed. you can budget a cheap holiday with hostels and with deals like this

        • my brother is like that. Never done it so doesn't know what he's missing. He's not cheap, but he reckons he needs something tangible for his $. Very material guy.

        • @Da dpG: Yeah I guess they're thinking of the cost and have other priorities

    • -2

Forever alone ? Korean reference ?

      • Lol why the hell was that down voted ?

And I'd bet the 2 that negged it don't even know the reference anyway….

    • I'll go with you if you're paying.

    • Go with someone from Ozbargain, get 2 tickets, split the cost!

  • +2

So want to go again, just came back last year and it was awesome!

  • How does it work? I went to Jestar but did not get 2 for 1 deal…

  • Need to use the above link.

Link for gold coast, was hoping to goto Fuji rock but the dates dont work :(

  • +1

Awesome deal. Got my tickets last year already for my trip in May.

Jetstar has done this deal twice this year already.

    • +1

Me too, I paid $3700 for 5 people including luggage.

      • Same here, $1500 for 2 people inc. luggage, inflight entertainment & meals.

  • I just booked my tickets 2 days ago for end of March to early April for $980 each. ……… ……….. …… But i'll stay with my tickets. Cherry blossom season.

  • Booked my honeymoon last time this came around.

While I was waiting for confirmation from my fiancee, we missed out on the departure day we wanted. Just used this new deal to change to that day for only $140 each. Very happy to get an extra few days!!

  • Does it have to be the same city in and out?

    • +3

On a previous trip I was able to do this by ringing Jetstar to make the booking, went into Tokyo and out of Osaka

      • Do they charge extra for booking on the phone?

      • I tried doing this but apparently they don't allow it. Might try again later with a different operator

  • +2

I notice Jetstar having these Japan sales (2 for 1) happening more often and targeting the Japanese tourism market - which is good for Australian travellers. Also being direct and all - beats the airasia haul which is in excess of 16 hours with sardine seats. Plus its even cheaper on the return leg - even if you arrive back to Melbourne at 1am in the morning.

QUESTION: I'm wondering if anyone is a member of that 'club jetstar' program - supposedly you get access to member only sales and pre access of upcoming sales etc. I was thinking of joining up, but wondering if its actually worth the expense? Like to hear your experience.

    • +3

NEVER pay a joining fee to a club (or a credit card, etc etc.) without getting the equivalent or greater amount of that fee paid back to you (e.g. via refund/rebate/cash-convertible points) immediately.

In this case, it's not worth it to me - you're giving them money for 'access' (i.e. a chance) to potentially save money in future. If you know you will definitely be flying jetstar in the near future and will NEED the advance access to secure discount fares, AND the discount will more than cover the joining fee then you may see value.

I just see Jetstar extracting $39 for a promise of nothing, while charging people for a kind of loyalty as they try to justify spending the club joining fee by spending MORE money with jetstar!

      • good point. Though if the value saved (like you say is a big difference) then it may be considerable. Seems like another way to extra money from people.

    • I would consider getting the Jetstar credit card as you avoid the credit card fees and still get something back.

  • this or hawaii…
just came back from tokyo last month
    GAH.

  • Any ideas/resources for itineraries?

Booked 3 weeks flying in/out of Tokyo.

    Going in April-May.

    • trip advisor ftw

    • +1

Plenty things to do in Tokyo, get your self a JR Pass, visit Osaka and Kyoto at least.

      • But make sure you get the JR Pass in Australia; you can't buy them in Japan. You then activate it at certain big train stations in Japan.

Only tourist visa holders (which almost everyone will be) as they get stamped in their passport are able to use it.

I have found this site really good for OS travel.

      I would say the thousand page long Japan travel thread on Whirlpool and the extensive FAQ should be your definitive starting point;

www.japan-guide.com is a good place to start, very informative.

    • Thanks all! Will take a look.

  • Thanks OP!

Just booked Gold Coast to Tokyo return for the wife and I. $981 with 25kg baggage.

First time there for both of us. Hopefully October is a nice time of year…

Had resorted to just travelling interstate for our holiday.. And then this came up again! Missed it last time

    • +1

Late October through Late November is beautiful as all the Autumn colours come out.

  • Can I also book another return flight from JP to Korea or China? ?

    • Use the japanese budgeted airline:PEACH Airlines. Cheap to travel to SOuth korea, china, hong kong and taiwan

      • Thanks a lot.

  • I am planning to go 3rd May one way to Japan, anyone keen?

  • Is skiing in Early December any good in Japan?

    • +1

If you can get up to Hokkaido and its a good season you might be ok. The difference between early and mid December is huge though.

  • Not sure if I should go to japan with the exchange rate being so low at the moment.

    • Its not low at all. First time we went it was 85yen to the dollar and still a cheap trip. Fair enough we went recently at it was 104. But currently at 90 is still great.

    • The Yen is one of the few currencies that we're still relatively strong against.

      • +5

        Abenomics is working.

        • As opposed to Abbottnomics which involves fuelling planes by burning poor people.

  • Damn. Departing Sydney mid November is not looking as inviting as other cities. NSW, always getting shafted.

    • +1

Are you serious? Try living in SA/Tas/NT/ACT and see how often we get shafted compared to the biggest city in the country.

      • No doubt, but you would think the biggest (and most expensive) city would have the most options. Not the case

        • +1

At least you get deals. Sydney airport is relatively expensive to fly into and out of (from a taxes/rental perspective), so they can't be as cheap as what gets offered out of Melbourne, Gold Coast and (particularly) Cairns airports (Cairns airport was basically built by the Japanese in the 1980s Japanese investment boom)

        • Canberra has 2 airlines you can fly in and out of… Qantas and Virgin. If you think your city doesn't get any deals =/ Which other Capital Cities get shafted more?

  • Duh. Just booked trip to HK on April for 2 few days ago for 1600. Somehow a little piece of my heart shattered.

  • no more departing flights from Gold Coast? only Melbourne (Tullamarine) left.

    • no it's still there - you have to change the option

  • +1

Anyone got this to work from Perth? I've selected dates in July/August and don't seem to show up. Tried from Melb and worked fine ><

    • yeah dates in October worked for me

    • dates in June worked for me, $1284 rtn no luggage. Not as cheap as Melbourne…

  • Booked for a 21 day holiday in May. Thanks for the heads up. Wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

  • Oh man… who wants to group buy?… provided the other party is female ;)

    • +9

      Maybe ask your mum.

      • +2

Oh hell no… I aint spending time in a Sanrio store with my mum… she has enough of them hello kitty stuff. If i went with her, the whole trip would be spent in a Sanrio store…

  • Sydney to Tokyo (Narita)
    06:00 AM, Tue 24 Mar 2015

    Tokyo (Narita) to Sydney
    08:30 PM, Fri 10 Apr 2015

$1500 incl. seat selection, 20kg baggage / no meal for 2 people ($750 each)
Cherry blossom season end of March - early April and Easter holidays at that time, so I think it's a good deal.

  • +1

I have $600 in Jetstar vouchers… ugh. I'll just have to quit my job.

  • Would a similar deal come later in the year for October?

    • +11

      yes, unless it doesn't

  • Sydney to Osaka, 30th April(ish) - 10th May(ish) anyone? In need of a two-in-one jockey here!
