  • Ta- how does it compare to the nespresso?

    • -1

      On par with Nespresso

    • +1

I use nespresso at work and this one at home, it's good stuff. I find it maybe slightly stronger as some more coffee in the pods. Comparable though for sure.

  • wow is this any good????

    • +4

Perfect cup of coffee compare to Nespresso pods. Good shot of caffeine.

  • +6

Still going through my capsules from this deal. :)

    • +3

      Amen

    • Also got the machine back then as well as another box of capsules here.

      • I bought the capsules from that deal but haven't seen an officeworks type deal on a machine since. They're sitting in a box on my desk at work mocking me.

    • +4

These deals are starting to remind me of printers, where it is cheaper to buy a printer with ink than just the ink.

      • +3

As commented on many times in these deals. It's the same sales model.

    • Different machine.

  • +1

Is it only available in select locations? I'm in Vic and it's not showing up on their website for me.

    • +1

      I'm in Vic. No issues.

    • +1

Comes up for me (with availability) when I use search.

    • +1

blank for me from mobile site

      • +1

Click on "Full Site" link & search, or in Chrome on Android, click "Request Desktop Site" from menu

  • For 12 x $6 (assuming 5% PayWave rebate & ability to lodge 12 Cashback claims!) - could have bought 12 Lavazza Favola machines with 12x12 pods ;-)
    (deal expired)
Wish I'd bought more - good machine & coffee.

    • +1

Why pay when you can profit? lol.

  • -2

Is this the version with the milk frother ?

    • -1

lol! What do you think - at this price.
The capsules cost more than this.
So it's effectively a free coffee machine.

Did you check out photo link in deal description? Or Deal link with description of this basic machine. See or read anything about frother? It's a popular feature, found on higher value machines, that would be promoted if included!

TA provided the links - you could answer that question yourself.

    • -3

Frother, apart from lovely coffee shop noise, just heats & aerates milk. That can similarly be done with a small mount of milk in a mug heated in a microwave, whisked to foam with a blast of a stick blender.

Since I already have those sourced for free, and usually easier to clean & maintain than a frother, I'll do without the added expense of an included frother - which usually costs at least the cost of this deal again.

  • -1

This deal is worth considering if you already own a Lavazza machine. Sell this basic machine for say $49, & keep the equivalent of 9 packs of pods costing less than half RRP price.

DS sell this model with starter pack of 12 pods for $130! I bought better model with starter pack for $6 (after Cashback etc).

  • Lavazza machines & pods make a good coffee. But there are few cheap options for pods.

About cheapest at OW (links in deal description), but very limited selection. Coles stock, but Woolies doesn't in my local stores.

  • The other half bought some Lavazza beans for our Breville semi auto machine.
Absolute worst coffee to have come out of that machine ever. We threw out half the bag.
If the pods are anything like the bagged beans then I wouldn't recommend.

    • +1

The coffee From the pods isn't too bad. A few Christmas' ago, we compared both the nespresso and lavazza coffee machines, back to back @ Myer Chadstone (machines were next to each other, quiet time and plenty of coffee…. we left buzzing).

We preferred the lavazza coffee over the nespresso. The taste wasn't as chemical/synthetic as I felt the nespresso were. Pods were on par $$ wise.

I have the machine in this deal and it's been going strong for many years (multiple double-pod coffee's a day). THe milk frother that came with the machine (separate box) died quickly as did the ones bought with the machines.

    • Each pod has different beans, sometimes from different countries, also I don't think the bags and pods use the same beans.

Lavazza and nestle (nesspresso) are two of the big four coffee buyers worldwide, if memory serves.

  • Auto grinding coffee machines make better tasting coffee (as evidenced by research) and are cheaper in the long run.

    • +6

Yes, but that's a very different deal, requiring quite a few more dollars up front. This is a deal for 69c cups of coffee, including the basic machine.

A HN salesman gave me your argument while trying to sell me a $2500 machine - that I would save money, possibly, eventually. He did suggest a pod machine if you require less than 5 cups per day from the machine.

It all depends on how much coffee you drink, to make the machine an economic proposition. Pods are suited when people want a good coffee, with little fuss & cleaning, a small number of times a day or when friends pop over.

This deal is mainly selling a range of coffee cheaper than usually avalable (depending on the selection of included styles), with a coffee machine thrown in.

Yes pods are a dearer way to buy coffee, and you are locked into pods that only fit your machine, but have other advantages especially for low coffee volume applications & provide a simple way to have a variety of coffee styles which store easily, without having a fridge full of beans.

(The best time to buy is Cashback time! I bought another Lavazza deal, which was 50c/cup with a better machine - I haven't bought any more pods yet - waiting for a good deal. I do like coffee, but am rarely around to drink it as am away a lot, and drink little. So a pod machine suits me, if the price is right.)

      Thanks TA ;-)

      • +2

Very nice summary Bruce. Thank you.

      • $2500? Did it have the facility to chauffeur you to & from work?

My $300 touch screen auto coffee machine with auto milk frother is coming up to 4 years old and paid for itself over a pod machine inside 12 months at 2 cups a day. Plus, with fresh beans the coffee tastes much better. If people want to justify pod over auto machine, then I'll justify freeze dried over pod.

        • +2

Wander over to www.coffeesnobs.com.au and be astounded by the amount of money people are prepared to pay for a (very good) cup of coffee

        • +1

If you ask them to demonstrate their coffee machines, they serve you free coffee ;-) So you might as well try their best one. About cheapest way to get a good coffee.

        • That's still 41c/cup cost over the year, before coffee cost, plus additional cleaning & maintenance time/costs.

This is 69c/cup with a variety of coffee styles including the machine. I bought at 50c/cup for coffee & machine. So that leaves 9c/cup for the coffee over my deal. (Of course yours should be a better machine. No argument there.)

As for freeze dried - no comparison in flavour or experience, that coffee is around 18c/cup or less ($18 Moccona 400g @4g/cup).

It's up to people to consider what suits their budget, lifestyles & tastes. There are plenty of options.

Pod suits mine at the moment. Compared with your machine, mine left $294 still in my pocket! Anyway, I can use the expensive coffee machine (worth thousands, with the frother, screen, options) in the office for free, or pop into HN for another free "demonstration" ;-)

        • @brucefromaustralia:
Trying to get a free cup of coffee from a Coffee Snob in that way is like tugging the tail of a tiger.

        • +2

          @rodericb:
Wanna see my tiger tail collection ;-)

After the free coffee from the $2500 machine at HN, I then bought the Lavazza machine with 12 pods there & pointed out it cost $6 after $50 Cashback. Loved the look on the immaculately dressed European guys face. Yes, I can be an ungrateful bastard ;-)

        • "My $300 touch screen auto coffee machine with auto milk frother".. was that a secondhand machine or a typo? I don't know of any machine at that price with those features

        • @Gr8deel:
          Merol - bought through eBay
Kogan is $350 delivered and has a better touch screen system with more coffee variety options

        • @brucefromaustralia: Onya Bruce :-)

        • @Gr8deel: Sounds like he's describing the Kogan one ( https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-fully-automatic-coffee-ma… )

        • @cjmac:
Looks good, but nearly 60 times the price of my Lavazza machine, and doesn't include any coffee like my $6 pod machine.

Even including the cost of buying my machine, it would take 529 of the dearer Lavazza coffee pods (not the cheaper ones in this deal) to equal just the cost of this machine, without making 1 coffee.

Personal circumstances are different, meaning this may suit some.
In my case, I average 3 coffee per week over a year (overseas a lot), so nearly 3.5 years of machine & pods would be equivalent cost of that machine, without appreciating it's first coffee.

Just had a tasty Lavazza coffee. Ahh ;-)

        • @cjmac:
          There's also the breville $349 @JB

      • Choice has a review of the different types of machines, with advantages of each, and typical RRP price range.

    • @yoyomablue
I'd love to see the "evidenced by research", that you didn't link (sorry if that sounds rude).
Nespresso pods taste excellent EVERY single time, and even my $580 machine is a massive bargain, compared to the turd-producing $1500 traditional machines I've experienced. $6 cafe coffees can taste worse than the dirtiest pod machine I'd owned (MAP, like coffee flavoured soy-sauce!). Every year or so, I reevaluate the total solution… but it NEVER involves a $xxxx machine! KISS principle is looking-good.

        • +1

          Opinion pieces are not research.

It is discussing people's habits - for convenience, using pods as an example.

It does not discuss the difference in coffee quality between a ground coffee machine or pod machine in a person's home. There is nothing to back up your assertion.

Coffee content of Lavazza pods is about 50-100% more than that of expensive pods in that piece - designed like most opinion to generate controversy. You bought in.

Yes, pods aren't green or sustainable. But usually drinking a lot of coffee isn't either. We do a lot that affects the environment.

If that's the best evidence you could find… seems little to back up your case.

It is basically plundered from a 2 year old Choice review of coffee pods That subjective article is of more relevance, but of limited value. And it seems to compare barista produced coffee on an unnamed manual expresso machine with expensive pods used in unnamed pod machines.

The economics of using expensive pods unlike those in this deal (over 1kg coffee plus machine for $99) is outlined. The economics of coffee grinding espresso machines vs pod machines is not!!

I'll stick with my $6 Lavazza pod machine a little longer. I'm no snob. Or am I courting controversy saying that ;-)

  • +1

Thank you so much OP! Woohooo very best deal, straight to OW after saw your post :)
I don't care if the coffee taste below cafe standard, it is on par with Nespresso anyhow.

  • +2

I use a stove top coffee pot and the cheapest coffee I can find, try to get 1kg at $20-$30. Is it time I got all fancy or just stick to the basics?

    • ;-) You are the best judge of that. The most important thing is are you enjoying your coffee? If you are, keep on enjoying it.

Some of my trendy London friends swear by those. I think that's because it takes more skill and experience to produce a cup that's just right. I certainly loved their wonderful coffees every morning.

      • I think that's because it takes more skill and experience

lol for me it's the cheapest way to NOT drink instant haha. The coffee is just OK, no where near as good as fully extracted but it's easy clean up and cheap so yeah it suits me.

        • +2

That's basically why I have the pod machine. I don't have that much interest in buying an expensive machine & learning how to operate, clean & maintain it.

The pods are easy to store & I don't have to worry about my coffee deteriorating because I don't drink it that often. (My London friends fridges seem to have more coffee of different varieties, than food.) Not my priority.

I am more of hot chocolate (& mocha from the super-duper machine at the office) person, so don't drink that much coffee. But when I drink it, I drink for the taste & aroma.

So my $6 Lavazza machine suits my tastes & my lazy lifestyle. But I wouldn't have bought it at full price of $100.

Coffee aficionados will have a very different view ;-)

You can always go for a free taste test at HN & other stores.

  • +1

FWIW I assume you meant that the machine was actually manufactured by Saeco, rather than Seico - who sounds a tad similar to Japanese timepiece company.

Anyone who knows coffee will know who you meant and it's just a typo - so no offence meant and am not trying to be a smartie or anything. Credit to you for knowing who the actual maker was, which is handy to know. :-)

    • Thanks for spotting the typo :)

  • Guys, it looks like the pods pictured are the three types sold at Coles stores, or is it a selection of all available pods?

    • +1

I'd like to know that too.
Anyone want to post the varieties?

The normal 12 pod Modo Mio starter pack that comes with machines includes 7 varieties.

Of those, I have 3 favourites
      Espresso Deliziosamente,
      Le Selezioni Divinamente,
      Caffe Crema Lingo Dolcemente.
      (all $11.99 @Lavazza online)

Coles & OW stock the same 3 varieties, but not from the samples range - so I don't know if I like them.
      This cheaper range is
      Espresso Deciso,
      Espresso Armonico,
      Lingo Gentile.

(all $10.99 @Lavazza online, 2c cheaper at OW)

Judging by the colour of the foil on the pods in OW photo, those 3 cheaper A Modo Mio varieties are likely to be the ones supplied. Probably 3 packs of each.

Other retailers like HN that stock the machines, stock a wider range of pods, at about $11.99 for 16.

Otherwise Lavazza online sell a wider range at $10.99-$12.99 (+$7.50 flat shipping, free for orders of 16 or more!)

      • +2

I'd want to make sure I really liked the coffee varieties before buying 144 cups!

    • +1

      See selection below.

  • +1

    A discount tip on pods…
    for a good range (8), try HN online ($11.80, 11.95, 12.95). They don't stock the Coles/OW cheapies.

Buy first join up for $5 welcome credit (off $25 purchase)! Wait for code in email (needs to be used in short time), apply code at checkout & pickup in store.

Handy to try the more expensive pods. Unless you buy something else cheap, you need to buy 2 $12.99 pods to use the credit. Still, $5 off the 2 most expensive pods is attractive - cheaper than the basic pods at OW.

I just signed up again for newsletter, using different email

    • Successfully placed order for my 3 favourites pods (2 x $11.95, 1 x $12.95) less $5 welcome credit from HN for store pickup.
Total for 48 better quality pods $31.85.

Cheaper 16 pod packs from OW cost more at $10.97 each.

But the Welcome credit email took 6 days to arrive! Then you have 100 hours to redeem it.

I'd rather have a choice of better coffees than the coffee in this deal, even with a machine thrown in.

But, I haven't tried the OW / Coles Lavazza coffee pods - any reviews from those who bought this deal?

      • Once again, never received pickup notice, so popped in & they got them off shelf & just gave to me.
        Nice saving $5.

  • +1

    Still $99 stock on shelves.

According to OW staff, contains the following selection
    Lungo Gentile
    Delicati Soavemente
    Le Seleziono Divamente
    Le Seleziono Magicamente
    Itierrai Intenso
    Intensamente
    Appassionatamente
    Armonica
    Cafe Crema Lungo Dolcemente

Someone who has bought may want to confirm.

    • +1

FYI I eventually got sent through a 'sample' box this week, it had one box of Armonica and one box of Decisio, the Decisio was swapped at Coles for an Armonica, well cash actually, but I bought an Armonica which I prefer.

This was from the sticker offer on the minu box when I bought it! http://store.amodomio.com.au/free-capsules/ :D

      • Thanks neil aus.

        Great deal…
12 pod sample pack with machine + 144 extra pod in this deal, + 32 extra pod posted.

Can you confirm the above varieties were in the 144 pod pack.

My favourite is the more expensive Le Selezioni Divinamente. The Espresso Armonico is also good & seems identical to Espresso Deliziosamente.

I have a different model Lavazza machine bought late last year. Serial number is only 8 digits, so padded with leading zeros. Form accepted. We'll see what happens ;-)

        • Just to confirm, I bought the minu machine, from Coles, not the saeco machine from officeworks :) It had a free capsules sticker, took around 2 months to come through though.
