High rating restaurants in Melbourne are sometimes high due solely to value for money, and popularity.

But given that, it's good vegetarian and AMAZING value.

Take away for an additional 0.50c.. for All-You-Can-Eat??

I will pay 0.50c to take away all the food

    • realise that only you have to eat it all?

Crossways has almost become an institution..eaten their dozens of times and always satisfies.

  • "Despite 93%"?

By "okay" do you only mean "average" as opposed to "vegetarian food here is [quite] okay!"

    • yes that is what he means…

  • Isnt this the Haaries?

    • Yep. Its a Hare Krishna restaurant

      • Hare Rama!

        • Was chatting to a close friend who has been a Hare Krishna follower for years. Didn't realise that they had such strange mating rituals O.O Nice people though.

          @Jar Jar Binks:

They don't. Perhaps you got rused.

        • +1

@cheapy: They don't mate? My friend has a child and she wants a sibling to play with… and they friend was telling how lucky we are that we had twins because the "procreation act" is so "distasteful" that neither his wife nor him wanted to do it ever again o.O

This is how they do it:

Of the four “regulative principles” whose practice is required of all aspiring and initiated ISKCON followers, the most onerous is the one banning any sexual activity not specifically intended for procreation.

Furthermore, according to the direct instructions of the founder of ISKCON, privacy was out of the question as to when the conception might take place: the married couple intending to “try for a child” would have to appear before the congregation in the temple in the morning and announce that they would be doing so that night.

If that were not indignity enough, both partners were required to spend the day chanting 64 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra on their japa beads, which means that they would be rapidly mumbling it for a total of 6,912 times.

In practice, this is a sort of self-brain washing ritual designed to rid the mind of any anticipation for the act to follow, which, in any case, was supposed to be limited to one fast act during which the couple was supposed to be chanting Hare Krishna anyway.

          @Jar Jar Binks:

that's an extreme case from the seventies. There's kooks in every religion. The movement has come a long way. I guess people like to sensationalize things though.

        • @SilentReckoning: My friend's child is 14…so that's how it was 15 years ago. He was in Mauritius at the time. Hopefully things have changed since then.

  • Cant see the deal on the LS site without logging in - SO irritating!!

    Great restaurant though.

Can I make this work for me if I don't have anyone to go with? Can I get one meal for $3.75? Can I get two for $7.50 and take one home for an extra .50?

    • How does it work when it's not strictly a meal of a set quantity, but more like you eat as much as you can… Maybe you'll get two cans of drink though :)

  • Btw they have set menus: link

Takes a lot for me to defect from Om when it comes to good cheap tasty veggie food in the city (and Lentil as Anything at the convent): Om's usual price is $6.50 for all-you-can-eat ($7 takeaway feeds 2, EASILY), LAA is "pay what you like". Om also has the best naan.

Sorry Om… to ignore this offer would be to break the OzBargain Code. It would be like an iCult member buying a non-soy, non-chai, non-latte while wearing non-hipster glasses.

For every naan in the world there is an equal and opposite halva.

I don't know where I'd be without Crossways halva.

I dont know about you guys..
But I dont think I could eat my $3.75 worth of Vego food

Good value for food, but the general patrons at the place are really creepy.

They seem to be nice people, but something about them are quite unsettling.

    • +1

you think they slipping human flesh into the meals? I hear that creepyness bro

      • I certainly hope the time I ate there, I was not eating the remains of Mr Potatohead.

I love Crossways. Probably one of the most delightful places to eat in Melbourne CBD. The lunch curry is best on a Wednesday (Spinnach and Chickpea).

Look at the full size picture on the Living Social website. There is a white hair in the middle of the plate next to the cucumber. Yuk.

Edit: For those that don't want to log in http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/28320/hair.png

    • It's probably not a hair…

      • It's probably some air…

      • Well it's inconsistent with everything else on the plate. Still doesn't look presentable when that's their feature picture.

    • Cucumber had an ingrown hair…

Om vegetarian just half a block from these guys is also an excellent choice, simple unlimited vegetarian food at 6.50 just can't beat it.

    • I like OM's naans :)

  • I'm in Melbourne this weekend, can anyone recommend a good all you can eat place that isn't just vegetarian. The few places I found included seafood and were like $70+
