The new version of the cheap Linux board that everybody loves!
Apparently due to the new SOC, it has approx 6X the processing power of the older B+ model. Since the USB and Ethernet bus is one shared processor, NAS performance wouldn't be that much better than the previous RPIs. The form factor is the same as the B+ so it will fit in the cases and accessories for it.

It seems to still be a fair upgrade over the previous model

Also, apparently a version of windows 10 will be released for the PI2 since it uses the newer ARM7 Architecture.

Having a more powerful PSU is even more highly recommended now, with a minimum power output of 10W (5V,2A).

Features:

  • Quad Core CPU,
  • 1GB RAM,
  • 900MHz Board Clock Speed,
  • 40 GPIO Pins,
  • 4 x USB Ports,
  • 4 Pole Stereo Output,
  • HDMI Port,
  • 10/100 Ethernet,
  • Micro SD Card Slot

EDIT: For free shipping ($45+), you could add a power adaptor

Or a case
You can also get this case for $4.99 as opposed to the $10 case above.
Mod: 3/2 12:40PM updated price in title from $38 to $41.80 (to include GST)

  • I'm guessing these first few batches will be made in UK, and soon they will start churning them out of China..

Here's hoping my unit (ETA w/c 23/2) is UK made!

Too late. Mine has Made in PRC printed on the board.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if all Pi 2 for the Australian market are made in China now. The ones I got from element14 are all Made in PRC.

Edit: Maybe that explains the Xenon Flash Death. :-/

    • +1

You realise that the only difference between UK made and PRC made is that the former are assembled by workers, or maybe machines, in the UK. The components would have come from the Far East in any case. Only the design would have originated in the UK. PRC assembled doesn't necessarily imply poorer quality, it all depends on the quality of the factory.

    • Apparently, RS Online sells UK stock. I may get one to compare.

Edit: Just did. Should come in stock on the 16th. $47.50 delivered.

  • They are probably getting screwed by the shipping fees directly from Singapore. I think those looking to buy one now, should wait until they get a container down to Australia.

  • Back in stock!

  • When installing Rasbm/Openelec through noobs it keeps booting to just a black screen. Raspbian is fine. Any suggestions? Also, on a side note I bought a K400r to go with this and it was ironically more expensive than the pi. :)

    • noobs may not be linking to the rpi2 package, and the rpi packages will not be compatible. Just download the openelec image from their site directly, it works fine.

      • This. The latest Noobs does not install OpenELEC for the RPi2. For now, you need to grab the package from OpenELEC directly.

Edit: Strike that. The latest Noobs now does offer installs for both RPi1 and RPi2. I've just tested it and it works for me. It does, however, not survive a reboot. Needs to be powered off and back on to boot properly. Not sure as to why.

      • Have not tried openelec but have tried all available methods of installing raspbmc including noobs, disk imager, and raspbmcs own installing software on both windows and mac. don't know what the issue is :/

    • Also, on a side note I bought a K400r to go with this and it was ironically more expensive than the pi. :)

What, you didn't stock on up the $8 Microsoft Media Keyboards from Computer Alliance? :)

      • basically i'm not very smart :)

  • I have already installed Noob on Pi. Just wondering can we install Openelec on it on the same memory card without formatting Noob?

    • In theory, you should get this working. AFAIK, Noobs remains when you install anything through Noobs. You should be able to install OpenELEC through Noobs, and then manually update OpenELEC to the latest RPi2 version. I might give this a shot if I get around to it.

Edit: The latest Noobs DOES have an install option for the RPi2 version of OpenELEC, just use that. Make sure to update OpenELEC asap, though, as it installs 5.0.2 which is buggy.

      • using this method gives me the similar results with both raspbmc and openelec. raspbmc puts my monitor into a black screen (signal but no image), openelec kills the hdmi signal completely and the monitor gives the no signal warning. any idea what is going on with my pi? hoping that i am the lemon and not the pi

        • +1

Have you tried to install OpenELEC directly? Same issue? Tried a different display? Different HDMI cable? Not really sure what it could be, but I'd start by ruling out everything but the Pi first.

  • I ordered my Pi while they were still in stock and I've received my Pi-case and PSU but the invoice says that the Pi has been back-ordered! Not impressed Element13!

    • +1

Back-ordered? Shows close to 7,000 for next day delivery???

    • I'd get in touch with them.. It might've been placed on back order due to stock, but should've been sent by now!

Have you checked your account online? Should list it's status as well.

      • Mine has been showing backorder even though they had in stock. Shot them an email yesterday and it arrived today

    Back in stock.
As daerka has pointed out there are now 6168 showing as in-stock at Element14
    http://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi-2-modb-1gb/…

Looks like the supply chain might be catching up to demand.

In other news the Raspberry Pi foundation are claiming over 5 million units sold. This apparently makes the Pi the biggest selling UK computer manufacturer ever.

  • Anyone received their Pi+NOOBS card order? Mine's been sitting unprocessed for ages.

Though I was being crafty ordering the combo but it looks to have backfired.

    • You may be waiting a while for it. I believe they're waiting for the new Noobs to come into stock, i.e. the one that covers the RPi2.

Haha, I cant believe the Interest this has stirred, Hardly a bargain, A lot of buyers don't even know what it is, or what it is used for, they are just buying it because everyone else is, this item is not a genuine ozbargain, how easily people get conned.

    • Assumption or fact?

    • It's expired now, but it was a genuine OzBargain indeed at $41.80 (excl. shipping). It's $45.10 (excl. shipping) now.

      • Correction. It's $47.30 (excl. shipping) now. This makes $49.50 (incl. shipping) for the same item plus SD card a real bargain now, even if you have to wait for it.

        • I'm sick of waiting damn it!

        • @d3ft: I don't even think they've got an ETA at the moment. It's probably not a good option for people who don't want to wait a few weeks. Or months? Good luck!

        • @daerka: It's a bit weak of them to not make that clearer when accepting an order

        • @d3ft: Are you still waiting? If so, then that's a bit dodgy, as they have all the individual items in stock. RPi 2 in stock, and a RPi 2 compatible Noobs card (SanDisk) is in stock. They seem to still be waiting on Noobs on a Samsung card, but regardless, I don't see why they couldn't just throw these two items together, apart from silly logistics.

  • Pi 2 with SD card now in stock. Still shows $45 (excl. GST) on the website and order screen, but once you get the confirmation email it shows as $52 (excl. GST). Price increase apparently, simply an outdated website. Sometimes I wonder about element14.

    • Mine finally shipped today - ordered Feb 9.

      • Are you kidding me? I bought a couple when I posted this, so about 2 weeks ago, and these were delivered the next day. They had heaps in stock back then, but were out again within a matter of days. Their back order system is all messed up. Happened to me before too, where they got items in that I had on back order but my order remained on back order. When I called them I got something of it being replenishment stock, apparently used to get more sales, not to fill back orders. Ended up cancelling my order and ordering an in stock item for next day delivery. Shocking really.
