Raspberry Pi 2 Released

It looks like the foundation have just released the Raspberry Pi Model 2 with 3x performance on a single core and 6x performance on multi-cores.

It doesn't look to be available in Australia yet (have checked both local RS-Online and Element 14 websites), but it is available overseas.

The price will be the same as the current B+ (it's unfortunate the AUD is in a bad way).

edit: It's available now via RS-Online - http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/processor-microcontroller-deve…

  • Awesome, now have to decide whether it is worthwhile to replace all my Raspberry Pi B with this one.

  • Looks like it will support a version of Windows too. This could get interesting.

  • Available at element14. They are claiming 2131 in stock for next day delivery. Asking AU$38+GST. Amazingly, that is the same price as the older models.

    See http://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi-2-modb-1gb/…

  • Also available at RS Components, except its more expensive for some reason. They are asking AU$43.18+GST.

  • My raspberry pi has been sitting as a NAS/usernet/torrent machine since i got it from release and hasnt faulted once, best IT investment ive done, will the extra specs make any difference for me?

    • The network card and USB ports share the same BUS/Processor, so unfortunately, data transfer won't be any quicker. However, you'll be able to run a little more with the extra RAM and faster processing thanks to the Quad Core.

  • Faster multicore CPU, more ram, ordered 2 from element 14, $76 delivered

  • Dammit I just bought a B+

  • btw has anyone got an exFat drive to mount? When I boot it up, it recognises the drive in the drivel of stuff when it boots, but I can't load it, and when I look at attached drives, all that show is the memory card. Im trying to turn mine into an exFat DNLA server.

  • This is exciting.

I had one of the very first generation Pis (before the RAM spec bump) and moved to a B+ when they came out. It's been superb as a low energy VPNd torrentbox and as an always-on Wake on LAN packet sender for devices I occasionally need to access remotely. It would be interesting to see if the CPU bump has an appreciable effect on network transfers, but given it's still got the bottleneck of network going over the USB bus I'm not so sure real-life usage will be that much faster.

Either way, the spec bump without price increase is awesome, and move to ARM7 likely means that Android will join Win10 as compatible OSes.

  • Buying my first one, what other components do I need?
