This is in the latest OW catalogue and is part of the "Back To School" sale, but I did grab one last week after seeing it near the registers. Only USB 2.0, but for $3.79 it's cheap.

Toshiba usbs are crap. You would be better taking back and getting a sandisk
Same price?
same price as something you will throw out in a week?
Actually no. I also bought the cruzer facet which was nearby for slightly more $, but the speed benchmarks were basically the same. Only advantage of that cruzer facet was it was slim so it didn't block nearby usb ports.
I bought two last week for the same price. They are extremely slow.
I copied two movie files and had to go out for dinner first then come back otherwise I would've died of starvation waiting.
Might be pretty much their standard price for this - bought one a few weeks ago for $3.79 and saw them sitting in a bargain bin for the same price on subsequent visits.
They were $2 at HN sometime back.
Pretty sure hn were 4gb
I bought 4GBs for $1 at HN some time back.
Wouldn't it be better to spent $7 more on a 16gb Kingston data traveler usb 3.0 usb.
Where to buy this?
My personal preference at the moment is Patriot Lifestyle USB3.0 Nano, because they are small, reasonably solid and no moving parts. 16GB is $14 at MSY, but $23 for 32GB is better value.
reviews on amazon are pretty mixed though

I bench marked these, decent read speeds but write was about 4MB/sec.
Yeah these are freaking terrible. I bought them from hn just to use them as cheap usbs for my cars mp3. Died for no reason. Now PC won't detect
Do not buy!
I foolishly bought 2 a couple of weeks ago and they are SLOW. My PC is a Q6600 and I cannot read or write faster than 2-3 MB/s
Slow slow slow.
"My PC is a Q6600…… "
I don't think your PC speed is very relevant when the USB Flash Drive is clearly marked as USB 2. The data speeds are never going to be fast enough to stress your PC.
I wanted to be fair in my assessment. Other cheap sticks I have bought crack 9MB/S easily.

Benchmark/Unboxing of this USB… He gets 12MB write speed and 36MB read speed on benchmark and relatively same speed when he actually test it with 1GB file. After watching this, I might go and get it at some point. Looks reasonably fast for small documents and stuff.
Did you see the video? His first test with the Black Magic tester got the same speeds as I did, 3MB/s.
His last test I believe fooled him by the caching on the files by the Operating System. No way will this stick run above 30MB/s
Please do me/us a favour and report back when you buy one on the speeds you achieve on your PC.
I tried both of my sticks on two PCs, both could not crack 3MB/s
I am getting 5~12MB/s (fluctuating a lot but still above 3MB/s) on writing with 1.8GB file right now (that being said, I am running it on a USB hub, if that makes any difference. I cannot be bothered to reach down.)
Also, only reason I posted that video link was that it shows benchmark and I just wanted to share that? You sound slightly angry, if I insulted you, I didn't mean it.
@AznMitch: I recalled benchmarking one using Crystal DiskMark. Pretty slow write speed (3-4 MB) from memory. Real life test (putting Windows 8 MSDN ISO and make it bootable) took a long time. However, it still does what I want: still good for installing Windows 8 (much faster than DVD).
I only use it for Win8 install. Same for other cheap $1 4GB USB from HVN previously (Win7 install). Don't really trust putting important files on these dirt cheap USB devices.
@netsurfer: I just bought one because I sometimes don't have wifi access for Dropbox/my uni doesn't allow Dropbox program to be used on their crappy network, so nothing majorly fancy. Though, for what I bought it for, I am satisfied.

Office works also has a red colour version of this for $8.45 which is even more of a ripoff.
the red is the fastest
Great price for 8 gig I reckon, pocket change for something this handy is always good.
If anyone is looking for better without going online, even my local Woolworths have 16gig USB 3.0 for $18, I bought one the other day it works great despite being a no-name brand.
Every Toshiba USB drive I've been given or purchased has failed on me, and some weren't recognised by media players, smart TVs or when using hubs. A couple had issues which caused a PC to fail if they were plugged in while trying to boot up the computer, while other brand USB drives did not cause a problem.
I'd avoid these. Even if you're using them to store 'unimportant' files they just seem more trouble than they are worth.
Benchmark Figures:
Sequential: 24.31 MB read | 3.577 MB/s write
512K: 23.91 read | 0.606 MB/s write
4K: 4.363 read | 0.050 MB/s write
4K QD32: 5.201 read | 0.047 MB/s writeTypical low end USB 2 drive. Good for usage which does more large file reads.
This is their normal price, I bought three last week.
I don't have any benchmarks (others have posted), but my real-world use tells me these drives are really slow… Don't get one if you plan to use it everyday but they're great to just have around. Thanks OP.
I bought about 10 of these and they are great to give to friends and family with movies and photos on. I also made a few in to OSX bootable installers and have had no issues so far.
I bought 10 when the sale started. Perfect for sending taxes to the accountant or for any small files moving/storing. I'm setting up a new PC & have one booting Linux for me, atm. No issues there, either. They are exactly what I needed- cheap & fast enough. I still have two 8GB Toshiba USB I've used for a couple of years now.
Just a word of warning that for some reason, the K-Mart photo print booths were not able to recognise these as USBs
