Thx for the tool chest hack. Can you give a mini review on the build quality of the tool chest itself? What to look for etc? Cheers
Mine did not come with the tools buts identical even down to the 'ball bearing' sticker on the front. The quality is really good for the price. Sure a $400 chest is better, however I carry mine in the car and the warranty is void on the expensive drawers if it travels in your car. This unit is fine and with the magnets attached to the drawers they don't open with regular driving (no Dukes of Hazard style stuff). Materials are light but more than adequate. I have had 2 drop from more than 1 meter and while the metal bent a bit, I could bend it back into shape nicely. Nicer than the kmart chest recently on clearance.
I would definitely check it out.
So you leave it out of the car for the Dukes of Hazard jumps?? :-)
@danyool: Gotta make space for Daisy when Rosco and Enos are chasing you. YEEEEEEEHOOO!
Thought it was a duplicate but its a different toolkit
Yep, the other one contains far better quality tools (standard length spanners, loads more sockets and different size ratchet handles) but is basically just a spanner & socket set. If anyone was wanting to build up a nice tool set then it would be fer better to get the other kit and add Screwdrivers, Pliers & Allan Keys to that instead of buying this kit… IMO of course! This kit offers far less in order to squeeze the cost of the mediocre box in.
I have a couple of these chests that sit on bigger rolling trolley chests from a previous deal. I used rare earth magnets from hobby king to make them 'stick' closed. I found 1 to 3 magnets made the right spacing. I stick it to the back of the drawer so that it just touches the back wall of the chest. Gives a nice little sticky clunk noise as it touches. Great for when you have on an off level surface so the drawers don't roll open.
