$49 Telstra 4G Mobile Wi-Fi Modem (Huawei E5372) + 3GB on 3G/4G @ Auspost

120

The modem has two external aerial ports, this makes this modem great for those of us living outside the NBN and who can get mobile coverage. The 3GB of data that comes with the device is on Telstra's 4g, and is worth around $25 to me. This means I get a great modem for $25.
Also one can send texts from via the modem, handy if you just have a wi-fi tablet.

If the data didn't expire in 30 days, I'd give it a vote…

    • -2

Don't activate it until the expiry date.

      • -2

How does that help? You still only get 30 days to use up the 3GB of data…

I probably only use about 500MB per month when not on wifi…

        • +1

Is there a prepaid broadband deal like this that doesn't expire? Or are you asking for what doesn't exist?

        • -3

          @eug:

Or are you asking for what doesn't exist?

In my original comment, I wasn't asking anything… It was a statement.

        • +3

@jv: So it was a pointless statement?

"If [a currently impossible condition happens], I'd give it a vote."

        • -3

          @eug:

          currently impossible

Why is it impossible ? They already have 12 month plans… Just a matter of extending it to other products.

        • @jv: In standard jv fashion, you're now steering the conversation away from the original topic and trying to turn it into your favour.

You know exactly why I said your original comment looked pointless. So let's leave it at that.

Nope, all I stated was that for this to be a bargain for me and to get my vote, the data would need to last for more than 30 days.

          your original comment looked pointless

          As pointless as anybody else's opinion… Including yours… :)

Yes, and you know exactly why I say it seems like a pointless comment.

          As pointless as anybody else's opinion… Including yours… :)

At first I thought you thought the data expired 30 days after purchase, as the Auspost website words it like that. Hence my comment - don't activate it right away and it won't expire 30 days after purchase.

After that all my comments were just as pointless as your original intended comment.

  • Anyone knows the difference between the E5272T and this E5372?
    Apart from 100T that is.

Recharge rates are still too high

      Use a solar panel?

You can easily get it unlocked. I have unlocked for quite a few for members here on OzBargain and Whirpool for $4. Also unlock all frequencies by flashing to a newer factory firmware(requires flash code, different to unlock code). Works with Vodafone 4G+ LTE 850Mhz as well. Its CAT 4 150 Mbps those who are interested.

Unlock code on ebay as well for around 2 GBP

    • If only it supported 700MHz!

    • Thanks for the info.

Are you sure it works with Vodafone 4G+ LTE 850Mhz? The whirlpool thread and specs seem to say otherwise.

      • +1

It does, read through the full thread. I have 2 of them and I am in LTE 850 only Vodafone coverage area and it gets around 15~20 Mbps download speed as the spectrum BW of 850 Mhz channel is just 5Mhz compared to 20 Mhz on 1800 (Band B3)

        • Thanks for the helpful reply. I'm in a similar area so this sounds like just what I need.

        • Unless there is some trick to enabling this I think you're mistaken. There is no documentation which says it supports 850mhz lte (b5)

        • Its not listed on Telstra status but I have verified using generic non branded firmware and as per Huawei specs it does support 850 Mhz.

And yes I am in a Vodafone 4G+ 850Mhz only coverage area, so I know what I am talking about :P

        • @regenade: Which generic firmware are you using (if you don't mind me asking)? I tried the firmware you listed above and it doesn't work.

This is not really a bargain, $49 @ DSE Normal price- http://www.dicksmith.com.au/networking-wireless/telstra-pre-…

    • No Click and collect and extra $6 delivery. So Auspost is cheaper.

OW sells for $49 as well but very limited stock

      http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/telstra-pre-p…

      • what AusPost offer free deliver? Nope, so it's the same normal price to walk into a AusPost or DSE store.

limited stock is because it's a superseded model.

  • Not sure DSE has the 3 GB of data, also DSE not in my town :( ,so postage would kill it for me!

Maybe can get the OW price match (which advertises the 3GB) and save a further 5% ($2.50 ish)

  • does anyone have experience with these?
I have the 3g one and whilst not really caring for the speed, the battery life is atrocious…. can anyone comment on the battery life?

    • I bought one and never had any problems with the battery. It ran for half a day no probs.
Don't think I will use it too much tho as the data is too expensive.

    • +1

This easily last around a continuous 12 hour 4G data session as the battery is a huge ass 3560 mah compared to 1500~1600 mah battery on other 3G/4G WiFi hotspots.

$16/GB is just too much in my book. Especially when the scumbags expire it in 30 days.

I think I saw an Optus (3g only) 5GB for $39 in the same Auspost catalog (for those special few people that have good reception with Optus)

  • Too expensive IMO, the 3GB wifi modem at Target/Coles for $19 a few weeks ago was damn good. Yes this is 4G but the 3G modem is fast enough.

  • I got this from auspost on friday. I just moved house and decided to try wireless for a little while, until I sort out the cable broadband at home (i'm likely to go with telstra again). this is my first wireless (3g, 4g etc) modem/hotspot. after having a few issues getting it to activate, i dropped by the telstra shop and they sorted it out. i logged into my telstra account (i have a pre-paid phone and my wife has a pre-paid sim in her ipad under my name) and the new number for the modem appeared also. under the usage tab, it tells me i have 5GB left. I thought it was meant to only be 3GB, so I was pleasantly surprised.

  • Coles is clearing these out at $47, got the last one in Stanhope Gardens NSW last night (i think…)

Quite easy to unlock too, found a site that gives out unlock codes and flash codes.
