Think again mate. She will almost certainly see through your not-so-cunning ruse. Remember, happy wife, happy life.

How come you hate the TV so much anyway? Is there any way you can improve it/ change the feature/s you hate about it, with hardware add-ons?

    • Its 4 year old 42" model. Now 55" - 60" available under $1000.

Put it into store demo mode. Every 10 minutes or so it will blank the screen and display information. Some TVs it never says demo mode(Samsung).

You have bigger probs in your relationship, and life, if you have to lie to your wife + scour the internet for help to damage a functional item + spend more money on a new item. Then you want to "fix" the "broken" item.

See a psychiatrist… he will help you with your TV problems.

Go to the settings screen and put it into a non-PAL mode (NTSC,SECAM, etc).

Wait until February when the commercial networks relaunch their primetime reality shows.

  • 1) The olde CB Radio hack usually done on the neighbour, push a pin through the antenna cable*

*Only do this to standard cable to antenna, but, if you use a masthead amplifier, turn it's power off first.

    2) Bypass masthead amplifier cable at the wall plug.

    3) Disable battery in remote with a scrap of paper between it and contact.

    4) Delete all channels, unplug antenna and do a channel search. Plug antenna back in.

    5) Google Decree Nisi/Decree Absolute

    6) Erect a man cave with antenna/foxtel

  • I had this same conundrum a long time ago when I wanted to upgrade an old TV. If I remember correctly, I think I just left the woman.

    • Win Win.

  • I think the easiest solution without the moralist or illegal is to remove / damage the short coax lead from the antenna to the TV. You may choose to have a spare lead under the sofa for when the missus is out

The TV will still work for DVD / other inputs so the problem isn't so obvious.

    • You might have read my post before you suggested that. It is only 2 up from here ^^^ O^o

  • Just go and buy a new one and cop whatever she dishes out, expect what ever it cost she will feel she has the right to go buy herself something of same value so factor that into your budget.
