That is an awesome price for the D5300. Got the D5200 with kit lens for $488 two months ago, but I've never used the kit lens. Would rather have bought the body only and spent the extra money on a purpose-specific lens (I mainly shoot portraits). Would love to have jumped on this deal! Anyway, the D5300 is a wonderful entry level camera. A bit more fiddly than the D3300 (so I've heard) but the extra options and features are worth it and it really doesn't take much to pick up.
Tempted by the D5300 as the D5500 no longer has built-in GPS.
The 18-55VR is quite a usable lens if you stop it down just a little, but if you don't want it and you won't use it even as a backup, you may as well sell it on Ebay.
I'm loving seeing all of these cheap beginner DSLR deals! So many people have access to amazing kit. D5300 is pretty sweet for the money. Just invest in a good set of lenses.
