Thought I'd share this with you.
WhatsApp Web was today launched as a freebie via Google Chrome browser. Enjoy :)

the qr code isnt working? how to install?
I don't think it works for iOS devices, yet.
Not compatible with Apple devices yet.
"Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations."
Just tried & it's working fine for my Mac thnx TA
MacOS is not iOS.
I think you need the latest update of Whatsapp… just updated mine and started working… although I'm on Android.
yeah how to use? i scanned the qr code but it gave me series of numbers
1) update whatsapp
2) open menu in whatsapp
3) click whatsapp web
4) scan QR code
5) ???
6) profit =)
i have the latest whatsapp but where is this "menu"? i have new chat new group contact settings status
Top right corner, there should be a magnifying glass, start convo and the three dots…
The three dots is the menu
@ProjectZero: on my top right i only have magnifying glass and start convo.
the menu is with softkey left bottom.
im using N7105 with DN3 rom
@erwinsie: If you don't have the WhatsApp Web entry in the menu, you need to update to the latest WhatsApp release. I had to and it appeared.
@greenpossum: i think i have the latest just last night it prompted me to update and i did. well no rush ill check again in few days
@erwinsie: You can go to Play Store > My Apps and it will tell you if your apps have updates.
running v2.11.498 on Sammy S3 and no 3 dots.
Play store says i'm up to date
whatsapp.com has apk for v2.11.491 available
if you have it, what version are you running?
@battler: 2.11.498. Maybe the menu is cleverly hidden somewhere? Make sure you look for the 3 dots from the main page, the one listing your chats, not a chat page.
i don't have chrome for android installed - i assume that is of no significance?

@battler: Chrome is on the desktop. ProjectZero's instructions were all I needed.
@greenpossum:
mine is 211498, playstore says no update, but no menu…
try the hardware menu button (ie the three stripes next to your home key). I have a RedMi Note 4G and I get the same menu using the three dots of my hardware menu button
Cheers mate, paired with hangout, I can leave my phone on charge at home and away from my and still access whatsapp when I'm gaming =)
fyi alternative for this:
install pushbullet and 3rd party plug in called quick reply whatsapp.
you can reply directly from pc
Unfortunately, quick reply does not work with Lollipop.
hrmm, I have no updates available (it updated yesterday from memory) but still don't have the WhatsApp Web option in the menu. A friend of mine has the exact same issue.
We're both running the CyanogenMod ROM with rooted phones, wonder if that has anything to do with it.
When I go to the play store and search for WhatsApp, it doesn't show any updates available but in the description it does say "Introducing WhatsApp Web… blah blah"
Use airmirror for now
For those that have updated to the latest version but still cannot find the WhatsApp web option in their WhatsApp app, reboot the phone — I just did this and the option appeared in my WhatsApp
Didn't work for both of us unfortunately :(
What version is your WhatsApp? You need to be on the latest, which is 2.11.498
I'm also on Cyanogen Mod (1+1 phone) so probably not an OS issue
UPDATE: I've read that it is a staged rollout, so possible it may not yet be activated on certain accounts (source: http://blog.gsmarena.com/whatsapp-web-officially-launches-go…)
2.11.498 is what I am running.
Ok must be the staged rollout thing then. Thanks for the info.
Just installed this without a problem but it appears to synchronise the data from your phone rather than the whatsapp server meaning your whatsapp data usage will double.
First your phone will download the messages from the whatsapp server then upload it over to chrome.
This sucks for people like me who already struggle to stay under their data usage limits month to month.
I also wonder what happens if you close Chrome without signing out. Does it continue to upload to WhatApps servers? That would be a bummer.

Clear data on device if the option to use it is not there for you. App version must be 2.11.498
This is great news! WhatsApp is one of the best communication platforms.
Viber has had a desktop client for ages, but even though I've loved that feature, Viber is generally buggy, slow and not as clean as WhatsApp, which is heaps better, plus more people use WhatsApp.
That said, I do wonder how they make their money - their platform is free, they don't have any ads (e.g. Facebook and the like) and they seem to have great servers, reliable service and I would say that if you're connected to a solid internet connection, it's much faster and instantaneous than text messages. If someone knows how they make money, I'd love to know :)

It's owned by Facebook. They say they charge $1/person per year, but not sure if anyone actually gets charged.
It does. But for a buck, it's a bargain.
Yeah I swear I've never been charged, my free usage expiry date just keeps getting pushed back for some reason. EDIT: using android
It resets if you reinstall the app after restoring your phone.
Version 2.11.500 is available for those of you who don't have the option for WhatsApp Web. I just installed it on my device and it works fine.
Direct link to APK: http://www.whatsapp.com/android/2.11.500/WhatsApp.apk
Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations.
Haha funny wechat had this function for nearly two years on all platforms. All the functions are similar, even the layout and web string.
v2.11.505 is now on play store, with web feature.
Thank you.
Another potential solution for those who can't see the "whatsapp web" menu option: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2t77cn/whatsapp_web…
Cool thanks!
Nice, thanks for sharing
