methinks AirAsia will have a ripper of a sale once the crash situation eases off…

        • +1

It's crazy how expensive AirAsia tickets are right now. This deal is pretty good but the return price is the maximum of what I've come to expect to pay for March/April return (usually mixing and matching AirAsia with Scoot though).

  • plus 8.50 per person/flight unless you use debit mastercard.

    • +4

POLipay is also fee free if you're with one of these banks:

      https://www.polipayments.com/Banks

      • correct, poli has no fee for scoot.
debit mastercard incurs a fee with scoot (i was thinking the other airlines that dont charge for debit m/c)

        • Yeah, they all have one fee free payment option which I think is required by law if they are not displaying the credit card fees in search results.

          Tiger: Debit Mastercard
          Virgin: Poli
Jetstar: Poli on website or Debit Mastercard via phone and tablet apps

If you need to book on a credit card to get free travel insurance and/or reward points a Jetstar price beat booking is a option if flights match. 10% off and they don't charge a credit card fee.

    • Yep I got that one ;) just deciding on this one…

Unfortunately I measure all these deals against that deal, AirAsia $650 return GC to London & $78 KL-GC, etc. Enjoyed them all :-)

      • I struggle to justify paying more than $200 return to SG, but I happily paid $700 return to Japan lol

        • You rich b… ;-)

Comparing Singapore to Japan as destinations, I don't mind paying more to get to Japan.

Just back from expensive (holiday season) Jetstar direct flight to Japan at $600 return (carry-on). Previous flights have been around $400.

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Japan is a very impressive place, I loved it last time!

Yea, there was a nice sale a few months ago, two for one, which was semi-available over here in NZ, the cost to Japan was only slightly more than the cost to Au and back!

Unfortunately we don't get low cost carriers in NZ (Apart from Jetstar)…

        • @Shaw:
Noticed your location was given as NZ in your profile. Thought that must add a few dollars on to a trip.
          Happy travels ;-)

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Indeed it does, a shame, but life!

          Cheers bro, you too.

  • any idea on the transit time for connecting flight? assuming these are not direct flights?

  • Does Jetstar International price match with 10% better of difference?

    • +1

Yes and unlike domestic (or intra-Asia), it seems international flights only have to be on the same calendar day rather than within 1 hour of each other to be eligible:

      http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/our-guarantees/pr…

      • Thanks.

They do have to be direct and one way though. I wonder if they'll match this combo deal?

        • Never matched international, but I'd give it try. From my experience with domestic they just punch in the competitors dates and will match the total fare they see.

        • Have used their price beat a lot. You will find its one way or return but direct only. Won't compare to stopovers/connections. You'd have to break it down sector by sector. The advantage is no credit card fees when using price match. Disadvantage is it's online chat and your customer rep is not only chatting to you but others as well. Can take up to an hour for a single sector price beat to finalise. Though multiple sectors would be expedited once ID details have been recorded. Bring back the direct phone call as jetstar used to do and it was all over in ten minutes!

        • @binatang: They've taken the number of the price beat page and only have chat option but they were happy to do it over the phone the last time I called up.

        • @lucjack:
Thanks but alas I wasn't offered that option the last time I phoned (prior to knowing of online) and they directed me to online chat. Will try direct next time.

  • All the economy tickets return are coming at $94… not $0

Cheapest business i could find is $200pp on the return… not $100

    • +4

open up the price description, its 0 fare the $94 is from taxes, fuel surcharge etc

  • Damn I wish they had this deal for BKK.

Flew in early 2012 GC-SIN with Scoot, AirAsia KL-YANGON return, KL-GC for $300.

Found Myanmar both wonderful & very disturbing. Did volunteer training of locals in a village, attended first international writers festival featuring "The Lady" Daw Suu Kyi, but seeing corpses, hearing of murders in nearby villages, talk of murders by military…
But most disturbing were the Foreigners complaining about how expensive it was while ripping off locals.

          Enjoy Bhutan ;-)

        • @brucefromaustralia:

That's cheap! Did you fly from SIN to KL as well?

  • maybe I'm searching this wrong but I can't find any $0 fares (I clicked open the details panel and they always charge for "fare")

    • +1

It shows the taxes when searching for flights which seem to range from $80-$94. Select one of these flights then click on the + symbol in the booking summary box on the right hand side of the screen. You should then see the fare is $0 along with the breakdown of taxes, fees and surcharges.

  • Managed to book flights for 2 adults and an infant return over xmas, including 25kg luggage and bigger seats for $1460. Thats not too shabby, a full carrier ticket at xmas is more than that alone and they dont give us the bassinet anymore.

Only downer was forgetting about the credit card fee and getting slugged with it. Didn't realise until after the payment had been confirmed.

    • +1

there is nothing we can do about the credit card fee though yeah? sucks that it applies to each passenger and not just that one transaction only

      • You can use Poli. I think they have to offer at least one fee free option.

        • I hate credit card surcharges especially per person, but if i pay by credit card, at least i get travel insurance.
Can you use POLI via a credit card?

        • +1

          @mmd: No, just bank savings/transaction accounts. https://www.polipayments.com/Buy

In most cases the CC fees will be worthwhile if your getting travel insurance included. As far as I know, the only way you can avoid the fees and pay by CC is with a price beat from Jetstar or maybe Flight Centre.

DAMN!! A Damn nice deal, and I just spent 4 hours of my life that I will never get back trying to squeeze myself into this deal somehow. It is quite easy for Scoot to/from Sydney to connect up with AirAsia Singapore - Bangkok and Bangkok - Singapore too, but I just can't fit myself into it. Thanks anyway OP!

  • Edited: nvm realised you need to buy a regular ticket there and the sale activates for the return leg.

Great post but what a joke on SIN-PER blackout periods:

    15 Jan – 31 Dec 2015 & 1 Feb - 26 Mar 2016

that's the whole of 2015, literally.

    • +1

15 Jan – 31 Dec 2015 & 1 Feb - 26 Mar 2016 are the periods that the sale applies to, NOT the blackout periods.

    • honest mistake guys, would delete if i could, but i put in a return flight from per-sin in April and the return leg wasn't $0.

      • The fare should be $0 but you're still paying taxes etc, so the return leg will be something like $80 from SIN and $100 from Hong Kong

        • yes completely forgot the tax, fuel charge, misc components. I got jetstar to pricebeat PER-SIN return $297 from scoot for $267. BIG WIN, although was up till 3am chatting with some guy from the philippines

        • @avexdevil:
How do you get Jetstar to pricbeat? Does the flight need to be within a certain time frame of the Jetstar flight? Or does it depend on who you get on the phone?

        • +1

          @mmd:

          it's a jetstar standard policy:
          http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/our-guarantees/pr…

          as for time frames:

Within one hour of each other if they’re domestic or trans-Tasman flights
Within one hour of each other if they’re intra-Asia flights
Within the same calendar day if they’re international flights (excluding intra-Asia and trans-Tasman)

        • @avexdevil:
          Thanks for that.
I thought the time had to be within one hour of ANY flight including international.
          Oh wells, next time :)

  • Gold Coast to Hong Kong: fares $197.79 + $0 Fees and Taxes $237.05. Total $434.84
Doesn't the law say that the advertised price must include the fees and taxes?

    • -1

Name a budget airline that incudes all the fees up front?. Its how they get advertisement for cheap fares :) but don't include everything up front.

      • AirAsia, TigerAir, etc, etc…..

    • Australian law, overseas airline & site. So doesn't apply.

      • Overseas airline wants to do business in Australia? Sell tickets to Aussies? Wants to land its planes here? Wants to use the terminal facilities to load passengers? You bet they got to comply with local advertising rules or else the Feds simply withdraw their rights to fly into Australia.

    • Yes, the law does say so. And yes, the law does apply since it is an AU advertisement.
Which is why the advert does say that "Return for next to nothing. All you pay are the fees!".

If your question is why the information above says "$0 (+Tax)" and "$0 return fares", that because our dear OzBargain friend (lucjack) typed it that way, and is NOT reflected in the scoot advertisement.

      • Where is this Australian advertising you quote?

I haven't seen it. I've received overseas based emails from Scoot promoting it as I subscribe to Scoot. Link is to overseas site flyscoot.com.

Australian law does not cover overseas sites & advertising.

        • Quite simply, you would not have received this promotion via email if you did not select your location as "Australia", making this an Australian targeted advertisement.

If you had selected "Singapore" as your location when you subscribed to Scoot emails, you would have been sent the below promotion instead. (Which is 10% discount on one-way flight, instead of tax-only return flight.)

          http://www.flyscoot.com/index.php/en/promo-fares-sg.html

And if your selected location was "Hong Kong", you would have received the below promotion instead.

          http://www.flyscoot.com/index.php/en/promo-fares-hk.html

        • +1

Australian law stipulates that for all flight itineraries in which the initial departure is from an Australian Airport, the advertised flight price must include all fees and taxes.

To make it easier for you to understand, try booking the following 2 flights as one-way trips.
          1) Sydney to Singapore
          2) Singapore to Sydney

You will notice that for Sydney to Singapore, the price of the flight you "select" and the "total" that appears on the right is the same amount.
However, for the Singapore to Sydney booking, the price of the flight you "select" and the "total" that appears on the right is NOT the same amount, as the advertised price does not include fees and taxes.

This same concept applies to Tiger, AirAsia, Jetstar, etc.
You can try on those sites too.

        • +1

          @bsmksg:
That's my point - laws on Australian advertising only control advertising generated in Australia, not advertising targeting Australians.

This issue is raised in other airlines promotions, particularly AirAsia. Airlines based in other countries, promoting their fares from outside Australia, do not have to comply with Australian standards of advertising.

It's similar to the advertising I receive at this time of year from China with products featuring the Australian flag - targeted to Australians, but definitely not Australian advertising.

      • I've updated "$0 (taxes) return" to "$0 (+taxes and fees) one way inbound fares" so its less confusing.

Advertising laws aside the title of "$0 (+Tax)" seems to be what they are selling. Couldn't fit any more in there but happy to update this too if there's a better suggestion.

  • Will it work if my friend will fly from Europe to Singapore or hk and then to Australia and then back to Singapore/hk and Europe? Looks like it is only for "from AU and back" flights? :(

  • Has anyone found dates for Perth - Hong KOng where this sale applies?
I cant find any, Ive searched dates in Sept & Oct 2015.

    Thanks

Nevermind - found in Sept now. Thanks!

  • Thanks, got GC To Singa business class both ways and paid a bit extra for 4 hours in the SAT lounge at Changi for return.
Poli was good for that but legs onwards with scoot out of Singa had no Poli option so sharked for CC surcharge.

  • As an aside I used a MasterCard with Westpac and MasterCard Securecode required me upon registration to remember yet anther password. I declined and the transaction was decined. Sometimes it works if you try again so I did but once again the transaction was declined.

So instead I used Visa Card with Commonwealth Bank and Verfied by Visa (Visa's alternative to Securecode) required a One Time Password sent via SMS. This to me was much more userfriendly and so I accepted the transaction.

Whose to blame for trying to make me remember yet another password? The Card Organizations, Visa or MasterCard, or the banks, Commonwealth Bank or Westpac? A westpac online banking customer service guy suggested it was the Card Organization fault and that if I tried using Visa with Westpac I would have the same ease of use of OTP as well.

Also what happens if you're out of mobile reception but within internet connectivity?

    • Like with all banking issues with travel, always have at least 1 backup card / bank.

Be prepared when travelling - I've had cards swallowing at overseas ATM many times. Sometimes MasterCard was not accepted, so have Visa as well, etc. Same with banking when booking travel.

Needed to use code to verify banking in Japan last month. Phone had no credit with Telstra, so thought I may not receive code - but came through.

But how many times do you have internet but no phone reception. I know that happens (in countries where your Telco has no roaming, or remote areas - that could have been a problem for me in Western Chinese villages), so if that's where you are going, set up an alternative card now, that does not use SMS code. But I think that should not be a problem in Brissie ;-)
