LCD TV - Commercial Use - Warranty

We are after a TV for our boardroom at work. Mainly for connecting a PC up to for presentations.

I went to TGG to check out TVs and the rep mentioned that the only TVs that honour the warranty in a commercial environment are HiSense and TCL. The rest are limited to 3 months in a commercial environment.
Note, this TV will only be used sparingly .. likely a lot less than a typical residential user.

These are the specs we are after:
- at least 60"
- at least 1080p
- at least 3 HDMI ports
- at least 1 USB port
- wall mountable
- Smart TV preferable

TGG recommended to me the HiSense 65K680UAD .It's a 4K TV with Android OS. It has a very nice picture, but the reviews are quite negative .. slamming the menuing system, and also changing inputs seems very clunky.

Anyone know of any other brands that honour warranty in a commercial environment?
I looked at the Sony Bravia Warranty ( http://www.sony.com.au/support/resources/en_AU/html/Warranty… ) and the only thing I can see about commercial use exclusion is section 2.9 which seems to exclude wear and tear .. which seems reasonable. Am I missing something .. I cant see anything about blanket commercial use warranty exclusion.

Any info / recommendations etc. much appreciated.

  • If usage equates to typical residential consumption, what's the problem with claiming warranty? Is the warranty automatically void once it's purchased under a business name?

  • I have not had to claim warranty on it but have been very happy with a TCL 40" 3D UHD TV as my computer monitor in almost constant/daily use since May 2014 and would not hesitate to buy another of this brand.

  • A smart TV? Will the people using it be smart enough? Probably not a lot of the time.

Stick with 1080P, anyone can hookup their laptop to it without issue. Virtually no one has a 4K display that they make their presentations on, probably wont make any difference but better safe than sorry.

Make sure it has VGA too, lots of people rock old laptops without HDMI.
Also get a bunch of adapters for the room, miniDP to HDMI, DP to HDMI, mini HDMI to HDMI, etc.
A couple of each just to cover any that go for a walk.

Try to get something that is not glossy, for the love of god.

    • I agree with this comment. Although i'd buy the adapters on ebay for a few bucks each.

HDMI, VGA… maybe display port. - all good.

Mini DP, mini HDMI are mainly used with small low profile laptops. I'd just walk around the office and see who has them.

Obviously you'll need 2 cables (hdmi, vga) and make sure they reach the desk from the tv.

Also, label them with the company name, they seem to go missing otherwise.

Seriously dont fall for this. Smart TV UIs are CRAP. Buy a smart TV because they're cheap, not because of the smartTV feature.

  • Sounds like a load of BS to me. Trying to be upsold. I wouldnt buy hisence or TCL

Select a employee who you know is boring and wont move from the company any time soon. Then buy the TV in his name (it doesn't even need to be him in the store, just order it with his name). He can claim the warranty if there are any problems (unlikely anyway tbh)

    • +1

i think that's riskier than having no warranty…

he would also not be able to claim tax on it that way…

      • -3

Yeah he would? To claim tax you need the reciept with ABN and GST amount.

        • GST, you can't claim GST for yourself if you don't have an ABN. On top of that depreciation etc etc.

        • @plmko: Hes just buying it on the company credit card and delivering it to work. What's the difference between that and getting the invoice written to the company name and paid for by the same credit card?

  • Thanks all for the suggestions.
About the Smart TV feature, it's more for the Skype capability. I do get your point though .. ie. it's important to keep things simple!

I have since found some online retailers such as Appliances Online and Video Pro have a commercial warranty option for their TVs. Appliances Online use a mob called Lumley Insurance to underwrite these commercial warranties.

    • Get the logitec Skype TV cam instead of smart TV with Skype.

    • With the price difference for "smart", a $30-50 Pendo pad with HDMI would probably run quicker than most TV "smarts"….

  • We have twin 65" Samsungs in the smaller meeting rooms as often you need two for side by side display of documents so people can see both a once rather than switching back and forth. They have been very reliable so far. Unless the boardroom is very small you might find the image is too small for people to see given that you may be viewing documents will smaller text such as spreadsheets, project plans. In our boardroom we have twin full hd projectors and they were worth the investment for fhe usage they get. Twin lower res projectors were also ok for presentations and document display but the full hd projectors are a lot better as you don't have to scroll left and right depending on the width of what is being displayed and they are very clear and easy for everyone to see.

  • lol gimme a break

i know a few places that run std. brand name 3yr warranty tvs 24/7 for staff use
