    512 went quick :-/

  • 128 & 256GB is still available.

  • Weird. the 512GB appears as $266 for me. But the 256GB is only $89..

    • +1

Yes Amazon sold out of stock. Now showing a third party seller price.

      • +1

Yeah.. decided not to pull the trigger on the 256 since I'm using the 128GB already in my ATIV Pro. Prefer the 512GB if I am going the trouble of pulling it apart for an upgrade.. :(

    • +1

Seller of the 512GB at that price is not Amazon. Amazon probably ran out of stock. Need to make sure you are selecting Amazon as the seller.

the exchange rate is really bad now.. i grabbed one last month with the free delivery (amex) offer… and it seems that the price+delivery is about the same or more expensive after exchange rate.

  • What's the difference between this SSD and the one posted yesterday?

    • +2

if you are referring to this one

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177925

that one is "sata" and this one is "msata"

      • is there any different in speed?

        • +1

The difference is in the physical dimensions and room for mounting. mSATA is more used in tablets while SATA is the standard for laptops. From memory the connectora are the same. So you could get a bracket that allows you to mount msata to sata, but not the other way round because the sata size drives are much larger.

Speed i think they are comparable. You should check specs but i think physical size for the device you are going to use it in is the deciding factor.

        • +1

As hippo said, it's more about form factor.
I personally would buy an mSATA and a conversion board (under $5) from eBay, then you are both future-proofing and dinosaur-proofing.
Although the SATA model may mount nicer in a 2.5" SATA bay.

        • +1

You probably should only buy mSATA if you have a device that needs it. There are more options for SATA drives.

Future proofing… SATA drives are changing every year. M.2 SATA drives are coming.

I'm not sure about Haswell but I'm guessing it's the same, MSATA is technically slower because it uses SATA2 as opposed to SATA3, though I wouldn't expect it to make any noticeable difference outside of benchmarks.

        • @bentan77: mSATA could be SATA3, it depends on the actual chipset (as as SATA, which could be SATA2 or SATA3).

        • @netsurfer: After looking it up, yeah I guess so, also depends on how it's wired if all the ports aren't SATA3. My laptop supports SATA2 and 3, the MSATA port just happens to be wired using the SATA2 connection.

        • @bentan77: Perhaps an Ivy Bridge laptop? Those only have 2 SATA3 ports. Faster SATA ports are better anyway, as there are more choices available for SATA drives. mSATA, much more limited, especially in Aus.

      • What's Sata? What's msata?

        • +1

Serial ATA and Micro Serial ATA.

Any takers on what ATA stands for?

Not Sakata cause thats rice crackers.

        • Serial Advanced Technology Attachment
But don't ask me what that means

  • Can i install this one on ASUS UX31E or UX21E zenbook?

    • Uhmm…google to see the size of hdd is 2.5 inch that means SATA (fits most notebook size) or mSATA which can be found in some tablets.

  • now i need msata slots to start appearing on more budget motherboards :)

    • Uhm…i think the connectors are the same. U need a housing to mount it, that is the challenge.

256GB sold out when it was in my cart :(

  • mSATA can also be used in upgradeable mini PC's like the Zotac Zbox.

    • +1

Yes, Some all in one micro ITX format boxes does use these. Everyone unsure should google what size hdd slot their device use. Normally mentioned as sata or msata.

  • Never used Amazon before. It says that this item does not ship to my address am I missing something?

    • The primary seller (Amazon) is out of stock - so it defaults to a second seller who doesn't ship to Australia - and also costs more.

  • +2

<tear falls down eye> I've been waiting for the 512gb to drop for ages

  • missed this, hopefully it will be back! :-(

  • Nice find, OP. Bought a 128GB for my new NUC HTPC build.

  • Back in Stock!! It's been going in and out of stock for the past 24 hours, right now it's in!

  • +1

Yep the 512GB SSD is listed as $169.99 USD from seller Amazon.com but says won't be in stock until Jan 10, 2015 but still that's only a few days away and you can back order it and will be shipped out when Amazon gets the stock back in. That's rather cheap for a 512GB SSD.

Edit: never mind the 512GB SSD just got jacked up in price to $277.87 after i posted the message. Looks like you've got to be very quick with these deals.
