Sorry, first time post - it was in store at Moore Park not on the website
Nice price however, beware that the "integrated Heart Rate Monitor" is not continuous. Ie. you need to manually press a button for the watch to read your heart rate. So basically wont tell you if you are working near your maximum heart rate when you are running which was a deal breaker for me.
I'm also looking for a fitness tracker with reliable continuous optical wrist based HR & smartphone notifications. Currently there are few (no?) options that completely fit the bill:
*** The Mio Link range http://www.mioglobal.com/au/products.htm - doesn't offer smart phone notifications.
*** Adidas Fitsmart - which uses a mio sensor http://micoach.adidas.com/fitsmart/ - doesn't offer smart phone notifications.
***TomTom Cardio Watches - also use a mio sensor - expensive ($350-$400), but includes GPS - doesn't offer smart phone notifications.
*** The Basis Peak http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/12/basis-depth-review.html - HR accuracy issue
*** Fitbit Charge HR & Surge (Not yet released) - Look good, but appears they wont sync HR data in real time to apps like Mapmyrun/strava/RunKeeper/Endomondo/etc
*** Current smartphones with HR do not do continuous HR or HR during activity.…so, looks like the search for "MY" perfect device goes on.
Have you looked at Microsoft's fitness band? And with CES on there'll be a ton of new gadgets coming soon.
Also, what do you mean by not offering smart phone notifications? I thought most fitness apps (Strava etc) will log and display heartrate data from a suitable device while you're doing your thing.
I had heard about it, but kinda dismissed it. Having now further looked into it, it has potential but also doesn't sync HR data in real time to apps.
Regarding smartphone notifications, what I mean is notification of incoming calls, incl. caller ID, sms's and notifications from any other app I choose. I currently have an LG G watch which runs Android Wear and does all this, but doesn't have the HR function. Most of these devices have no problem talking to smartphones but tend to only talk to their own app and send data (ie HR) to other apps, they don't allow other apps to talk to them. The upcoming Fitbit Charge HR will show incoming calls and display caller ID, the Surge will show this and incoming sms's.
Basically I'm looking for the perfect (in my eyes) merge of smartwatch & fitness tracker. These two product categories are on a collision course, and its just a matter of time until someone makes what I want.
Another one for your quest, the Suunto Ambit 3, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/178302 . The heart rate monitor isn't built in but supports it and some of the models include it as an extra item.
I think it will be good for people getting back into fitness so they can at least do basic heart rate tracking and manage their exercise intensity. A continuous monitor would have been great but it is a start.
