Museli from Brookfarms is not cheap and it uses Australian ingredients (including macadamia nuts grown on their own farm) at around $17/kg but it is very tasty. (Woolies and Coles branded toasted museli is around $5/kg)

Toasted Muesli Mixed Case - Apricot & Cranberry blends (Australian oats and barley, three brans, natural currants and sultanas from the Barossa Valley and cranberries rich in anti oxidants, together with our own macadamia nuts, lightly toasted with Australian Bush honey and first cold pressed macadamia oil.): A new mixed carton of gourmet toasted macadamia mueslis. $154.50 [1 case of 3 x 1.5kg Toasted Apricot Muesli & 3 x 1.5kg Toasted Cranberry Muesli]

Offer valid until January 31, 2015

  • So by my maths, the 4 pack is worth about $8.20, when taken as a portion of a carton.

Cheapest item is $33.60 plus $15 postage = $48.60 for 900g of muesli.. seriously?!

  • Brookfarm insanely expensive.. Some nice products, but only the rich can afford them. I'd buy the muesli and nut mixes regularly if they were fairly priced.

  • +2

Yes Brookfarm is expensive - but unfortunately I havent found a similar tasting/quality product which doesnt contain oats. The product really does have lots of cranberries and macadamia nuts.

COTD used to sell Brookfarm museli with cranberry and macadamia nuts ages ago and it was a reasonable price.

IGA sells Brookfarm products also. I've noted more "boutique" museli in Coles these days with "clusters" of oats and other gourmet ingrediants.

Nothing beats making your own toasted museli (you can substitute any nuts or dried fruits. But do NOT add the dried fruit until after the other ingredients are baked and cool): (from http://thecookbook.com.au/2009/03/31/healthy-homemade-toaste…)

This recipe makes approximately 2.5kg. The ingredients for this only cost me $15.

    Homemade Toasted Muesli Recipe Ingredients

    5 cups rolled oats
1 packet (approximately 200g) sunflower seeds
1 packet (approximately 300g) pepitas (also known as pumpkin seeds)
2 packets (approximately 100g each packet) slivered almonds
1 packet (approximately 200g) macadamia nuts, roughly chopped
1 cup shredded or dessicated coconut
    1 cup wheat germ
1 cup dried cranberries, roughly chopped
    1 cup sultanas
1 cup dried apricots, finely chopped
    1 heaped tsp ground cinnamon
    1/2 heaped tsp allspice
    1/2 heaped tsp ground nutmeg
    1 cup honey
    100ml canola oil

    Homemade Toasted Muesli Recipe Method
Preheat oven to 160ºC and line three large (20cm x 30cm x 2cm) baking trays with baking paper or foil. Heat the honey and oil together in a small saucepan over low heat (you could also do this in a microwave proof bowl in the microwave on low) until warm and runny (do not boil). Remove from the heat and add the cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice and stir to combine.

Combine oats, sunflower seeds, pepitas, almonds, macadamias, coconut and wheat germ in a large bowl (you may need to split the ingredients equally between two bowls – it makes a lot!). Pour over the honey mixture and mix thoroughly (it should be slightly damp, but not wet). Spread the mixture between the two baking trays and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and stir, then return to oven for a further 10 minutes. Repeat this process until mixture is lightly golden brown, this may take up to 40 minutes.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely, then toss through cranberries, apricots and sultanas. Place in an airtight container.

  • Even with a nice mix of quality ingredients (according to those above) this is still outrageously expensive, so I'm negging it. You're basically paying to keep them in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed. Take one look at a photo of them and see that magic price increaser label 'Byron Bay' and you know they aren't real farmers. They're weekend/tax dodge style farmers.
