Selfie Stick for Phone

Hi all

Can someone please find me a good bargain for a selfie stick? I'm currently using an iphone, not sure if it's universal or has to be phone based? i'm also not sure if quality matters here so any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • $9 at Kmart, although it might be hard to find stock

  • check them properly. Some selfie sticks are just that a stick that the phone mounts on - to take a photo you then need to use the self timer function on the phone, not great. Better ones have a remote (blue tooth) that lets you click away.
My wife just bought one from the Cotton On stores for around $20-$30, it has a remote and works with iPhone and Android phones and no extra software needed.

online store shows not available but I saw them in the stores on the Gold Coast a few days back http://cottonon.com/AU/p/cotton-on-men/selfie-scope/20341346…

My Mum randomly got me one of these for Xmas (I don't think I've ever instigated a selfie in my life, and I'm 23). After playing around with it, I have to say it's actually pretty nifty. You can get some pretty cool photos and videos with it, and bluetooth remote works quite well. Phone also feels secure in the clamp, though I do still get nervous about it falling out.

  • Cheap version (or simply old school), ask a real human to take it for you.

    • it is not a selfie then if someone else takes the photo - its just a photo.

  • I bought one for my daughter from these guys. Not that cheap, but you really need to get a bluetooth one.

    • looks exactly like the one from Cotton On stores.

  • Some Coles stores sell them. They're $10 I believe but they're essentially just a long distance mount. I would suggest investing a bit more to get one that has a button otherwise you're going to have to set a timer to take a picture.

Edit: This one is a wired selfie stick and it has a button to take the pictures, it's $24.90 with shipping included.

    also check

Reject shop they have blue tooth and standard

from memory bluetooth is approx $15

  • perhaps check ebay. I just bought one quickly based on a friend having one on new years.

Main difference I see are around the bluetooth functionality.
    ===>
    Bluetooth or no Bluetooth
Bluetooth on handle vs separate controller
Zoom or no Zoom with Bluetooth. *Perhaps only with Android/Samsung?
    Handle swapable with stand/legs

Other things to confirm but are pretty much standard.
    ===>
open / close length - Most are from 20cm to 90-110cm.
mount rotation - Most are 180degrees
    bluetooth version - 3.0
max weight: 500g (I have seen some go upto 1kg)

Remember this is based on a non-user, so others feel free to add.

  • How good are these, really? In terms of being able to control focus etc… I'm guessing the stick disables you from doing that, right? Or is there some techy wizardry which somehow enables you to still see when the image is in focus, and thus, when to snap that picture?

Nothing worse than taking photos with some stick if they turn out blurry, no? (I should probably do some research into this gadget - seems everyone's going crazy for it.. I'm more intent on picking out the potential flaws in its usage) :P

Mind you, I've never used the timer function on my phone's camera. Does it auto-focus immediately before it hits zero and takes the pic? Or can it still take an out of focus pic?

edit - most poorly written post ever. Apologies. Too much cider in my bloodstream.

  • thanks everyone for comments. Looks like I'll get one with the bluetooth, not sure why selfie sticks australia is so expensive ($35), maybe i'll check the other ones first. Thanks all!

  • If you haven't bought one yet, get the one with the key cable (wired) one, and click away on the stick. Bluetooth can be interfered with signal, an extra remote to carry and sucks up battery on Bluetooth mode. I bought a whole heap from HK recently and vendors are trying to sell of the blue tooth ones.

    • so is it just a normal non-bluetooth one? I havent bought one yet. Where would I get this one if it's different?

        get something like this

        here

or this deal that was posted on here a few days ago. It says it only works on Android phones. But the one i bought like the first pic works on iPhone. I paid $6.5AUD for mine in hk. But it's not easy to get a price like that here in australia. Good luck!

  • I got mine from reject shop, sub $10 from memory, great stick.
