MSY is selling LG L7 II Dual sim phone for $129 (previous $169.)

Huawei Y550 4G phone is $69 from DSE

If you are Ok with importing, there is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G for $159 USD

I can't believe you put up with your Wildfire for so long! I got rid of my Garmin ASUS A50 (same era phone, same processor) about 1.5 years of using it. Was far too sluggish and unstable.

    • too bad its out of stock at my store..

I never heard of that brand.. also i was thinking maybe spend an extra $30 and get this:
VODAFONE HTC Desire 310 Pre-Paid Vodafone

      http://www.dicksmith.com.au/prepaid-mobile-phones/vodafone-h…

it was the same one on the coles catlogue for $99 ( after $80 off) what do you think?

i would rather buy it from Australia because i like the fact some phones have 1 year warranty for my peace of mind

I dont mind it .. lol the only reason im upgrading phones is so that i can use all the features on my pebble smart watch

      • Huawei has been around for ages, they didn't make Android smartphones until 2009 and the first smartphone to hit Australian shores was the Huawei IDEOS. Xiaomi is slightly newer, they are regarded as the China's homegrown "Apple" brand and they are ranked third on the list of smartphone manufacturers.

In terms of quality — Huawei is only so-so but they are cheap and represent very good value for bargain hunters.

The HTC desire 310 only has 512MB RAM. A very big compromise on app stability — many apps will stall and crash when out of memory. Aim for at least 1GB RAM nowadays.

For your Pebble smartwatch you WILL want a phone that has Bluetooth 4.0 (Low Energy Profile) otherwise Pebble will revert to using ordinary Bluetooth, more power consumption as a result. Huawei Y550 fits this criteria, and for less than $80 bucks it's a good buy.

    • Redmi Note 4G is a bargain, but I'm eyeing off the Elephone P3000S for the slightly smaller screen and NFC.

  • oh i c um does the Huawei Y550 4G phone is $69 from DSE have any warranty? also do you know how reliable it is compared to samsung and htc? ( like how long is it likely to last before failure)

I don't think anyone can provide you with a answer so specific. Besides, the Y550 was released only a few months ago. The probability of a phone failing is low compared to the user breaking it by accident.

Just buy another when it breaks; it's so ridiculously cheap anyway! I wouldn't spend money on extending the standard 1 year warranty.

  • oh ic …Oh so it does have a 1 year warranty when bought from dick smith?

    • Anything that you buy from an Australian store must have 1 year warranty (not explicitly implied by ACL, but most places offer 1 year warranty as a minimum, ask the salesperson). Otherwise its a breach of consumer law. You must keep your receipt though.

  • Hi folks

How does Huawei Y550 compare to Nokia Lumia 630 (from HN @ $99) ?

…. well one is Windows and the other Android. Hardware wise, they are similar but with several differences:

Lumia = 3G only, 8GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, no front facing camera, Gorilla Glass 3, camera takes better shots

Huawei = 4G LTE capable, 4GB storage, 1GB RAM, 2 megapixel front facing camera, a slightly more up to date processor.

  • @ scrimshaw

    much obliged, thank you.

  • There are so many phones you can buy which is within that range, But my best suggestion is the MOTO G, which is a very good Smartphone with 5" display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 8MP Rear with flash, 1.2MP front cam and Android 4.4… Just for $180 or even lesser.

Here is a list of the killer Smartphones below $200 - http://www.androidpit.com/best-android-phones-under-200 which you can choose from. Hope this helps !
