          Absolutely.

handmade, leather shoes? or handmade leather, shoes?

  • +1

Your video on the kickstarter page is interesting, who takes 80 seconds to tie their laces? It takes me 10 seconds all up…

    • +1

what's more interesting is the "spokesman" who has one eye bigger than the other. have another look. never trust someone with non-matching eyes.

      • +1

You leave Aldo out of this!

        • had to google it, but lol.

    • 80 secs is a daily average. Say you do it 10 secs every time. So if you tie your laces 8 times a day that would make 80 secs. It is not a precisely accurate measure but a reasonable average.

      Cheers,
      Steph

i tie my shoes once a day, maybe twice if i'm unlucky. if you tie your shoes more than 7 times a day you should invest in velcro so everyone can see what an idiot you are.

      • +2

Why would I tie my laces 8 times a day? I tie them once and they're good for 13 hours

        • +2

i guess untying them takes another 2 seconds, so they're getting closer.

        • +1

          Dear Kaneissik,

This is just an example. We take into account possibilities of you having to remove your shoes when entering a mate's home or for whatever reason in a day.

We appreciate your opinion on this issue and we will see how we can further improve when communicating this trait to the general public.

          we are ozbargainers

          we have no "mates"

  • rep. i see a lot of empty advertising on your website.

    "socially responsible"

    "handmade"

    "sale"

can you back up any of these claims**

usually when a company claims they are socially responsible they have a link to provide evidence

You can also have a brief read at http://heavytaste.com.au/giving-back. However, for further details, please do email us.

yes, giving back is all well and good, but how much do you shoemakers get paid?

        • Dear Didsburydan,

Our company is compliant to all legal requirements of the country in which we manufacture in (this includes wage levels). Again, send us an email and we can arrange a detailed response if you are very interested in what we do.

          Many Thanks
          Steph

        • which country is that?

        • @socialmedia:
Ignore this twit. Have a good day.

  • -3

at ~$100 a pair, at a "reasonable" estimate of (idk) 4(?) hours to handmake a pair of shoes, this means your shoemaker (without factoring in marketing, shipping, materials etc) is paid $25 per hour. Now they are $40, does this mean your shoemakers skills are now only worth $10 per hour? are they that bad? or do you employ cheap labour for asia? that's not very socially responsible

    • Send us an email at [email protected]. We will be more than happy to write you a detailed response.

      Cheers,
      Steph

why not put it here for all potential customers to read?

Don't worry rep I believe you have discovered a Christmas troll.

        • Hello Eddie,

I believe we have! But in the spirit of Xmas we try our best to give honest replies to all who ask (including Trolls).

          Have a fantastic New Year!

  • "…We combined traditional workmanship with technology…"

    handmade?

  • +3

There is a lot of negativity on this page. Some question the term handmade as it applies to shoemaking. Yet they do not make inquiries such as "do they use a sole stitcher?" http://shoesandcraft.com/2011/03/24/handmade-not-handmade/

Note that handmade is a term with various interpretations. The ACCC does not even have the word handmade on their site. But if you imported handmade shoes to Australia, you would not pay import duty. Note that even if the company was not registering its imported handicrafts as handmade would not necessarily mean that their goods were not handmade. http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/ImportingH…

And other question fair pay rate. They claim that hiring Asian labour is not socially concious. What about hiring South Americans? Why wouldn't paying Asians or South Americans who work in small workshops fair wages be socially conscious?

Sad to see a single person drag down a comments section without drawing out the relevant issues such as certification or fair trade.

    • Hello Twocsies,

Thank you for this reply. It is a very just one and we appreciate this. It is as you say. As above, we offered to reply in detail (including those that you have mentioned) in an email, unfortunately Didsburydan seems to be a bit too hyper on the keyboard last night.

If anyone would like more information on how we make our shoes, again please send us an email at [email protected].

      Have a fantastic new year!

      Steph.

  • Lol not a huge criticism or anything, but did anyone catch the 10% of NET? On such a deep discount, they could be literally only barely covering costs, which means 10% of the net is probably a few cents. I guess a donation is a donation, but something tells me a $20 bill might be more charitable than the entire take from this sale…

  • Great socks. I've used other brands before where it keeps slipping at the heel, but these ones don't

    • Thank you very much! Enjoy these in good health.

      Have a Fantastic New Year!
