i cant believe it over a free sausage (like a kid fight over candy), no wonder world in hell..for some ppl this is a bargain, and if it doesnt then just gv a negative vote no need to overreacted,Respect one another believes (not just religion). i think ppl who still bring this up into something has some issue.

    • no ishe, it's not about religion, it's about a sausage sizzle being promoted on what is fast becoming a very watered down bargain site.

      • exactly!

        • +1

It's no different than the freebie promo offers that pops up every now and then if you look at it objectively

praise the lord, have a free hot dog while we brain wash you!

  • I think if we have learnt anything from this post, it is the undoubtedly divisive impact religion (of any denomination) has when introduced to online environments/communities (such as ozbargain), where it otherwise doesn't belong.

The intention of this post is clearly genuine, and indeed 3 quarters of users find it of value, but none the less, it has sparked emotion/discomfort/possibly offense that we wouldn't otherwise encounter in other posts.

This site should be 100% secular, and thus keeping the focus (without distraction) on “bargains”.

Once again, that's my 2 cents.

Ok going off your 2c, Here's an extreme hypothetical: What if a local Church was to sell Sony Bravia LCDS at 20% under what any other retailer could ever match? Would you still exclude that from the site due to it's religious affilation?

It's never going to happen of course, but a deal is a still a deal. As long as it doesn't come with any strings attached, why would you care?

      • I don't think that would cause offense…..after all, many religious bodies are shareholders in multinational companies……

But I do know in this instance, the post's introduction made direct references to "Jesus", the church, a christian website (unrelated to the free sausage), and the events slogan "all about life".

So in all fairness, there was an intent to promote more than just a sausage here…lets be honest?

I don't think you would need to make any of these references to market a Bravia, irrespective of if the profits were invested back into the church.

        Cheers.

Firstly let me say that the author of this post (me) is not affiliated with the Jesus All About Life advertising campaign. I simply knew about this event, which is part of the public campaign, and decided to post it. Hence the comments below may not completely represent the people behind it.

Yes, I would agree that there is an intention behind this campaign (just like any ad campaign you see on tv). I mean, why else would people be willing dish out millions of dollars to put it on? I suppose that the campaign aims to create awareness of who Jesus is to the mass public (who would otherwise be educated by other entities that often misrepresent Christianity), and to generate discussion. It's not forcing anything down anybody's throats. You can take part in the events or you don't have to.

So my point is that there is no sinister hidden agenda to the events. Everything's done out in the open (literally in this instance) with the intent for people to have a little experience of the giving nature of Christianity. The BBQ event was done outside a large church courtyard. And for goodness sake, the campaign even bears the name 'Jesus'.

Since there is much transparency, people who are made aware of this event can freely decide whether to go or not.

So if I had just posted "free sausage sizzle" without mentioning the name of the campaign, I'm sure that would be totally misleading don't you reckon?

    • Very juvenile

What I don't understand is why this is allowed yet if I posted a free sausage sizzle at my local Satan lovers BBQ, it would be removed?

    • +1

why are we starting to attack an individual now? Grow up people! Its not about him!

I used to work with Andy Tan, great bloke. Also a kick ass developer. I don't know everyone is getting so angry. I don't belive in god, but.. it's free sausage sizzle - no strings attached!

    • Viper - free sausages by Macca's is ok, free sausages by governments/councils/pollies are fine (except those right of centre), but a religious organisation, then thats an attempt to pervert us.

The others do it because they love us. Or as some say because its ok to convert us if the motivation is commercial or political. But if it's religion its then bad, unless of course the priest/minister tells us to vote for a pollie that someone likes.

Me personally - I would steer clear of free sausages by anyone, but that said it still qualifies as as a good bargain as any other freebie offered here. The rest frankly are letting their prejudices play out as the comments show.

      • To be fair, I would likely avoid and neg politically-inclined sausage sizzles. Free food for the launch of a new product, on the other hand, might be different—OzBargain is, after all, a proponent of consumerist capitalism (albeit of the thrifty variety).

So if the Australian Liberal party were to throw a massive barbie in the city close to an election, users shouldn't post this on Ozbargain as a freebie?

      • but from the above post, no one actually said anything :S you just took your sausage and left

  • +1

I dont mind food down my throat… but thats it.

  • +2

lol it's free food. Who cares if it's a church giving it away? It's not like it's a politician or anything

I've unpublished personal attack comments, I think we've had enough religious discussion here over a sausage sizzle. Comments closed.
