  • Great deal. I purchased a factory second refurb from Epson recently that cost me $199, which was a good deal at the time. So $177 for a brand new one is a great deal. Printer is quick, fairly quiet and easy to set up.

FYI the factory refurb from Epson was excellent, looked brand new, and they included a new set of cartridges in addition to those in the printer.

Seems like a great deal, but I'm just wondering about the ink cartridges… as far as I can tell, they're 786 cartridges. I can't seem to find any non-genuine cartridges online, which means we're restricted to only buying the genuine ones. I wonder whether Epson have put some measures in place to prevent the use of non-genuine cartridges (if so, it's probably just a matter of time until these are circumvented).

Interestingly, Harvey Norman say you can get an extra $50 cashback by buying the printer with ink cartridges, but they don't seem to stock the cartridges at all!

    • Did you end up buying one?

      • Nope - I managed to get a WF-3620 for around $130 at JB HiFi at the after-Christmas sales.

  • So why a MF ink jet and not a laser? Isn't toner an order of magnitude cheaper, and lasers more reliable, faster, better for text and produce more water resistant printouts? Can't think of a reason for an ink jet except printing photos, but then you wouldn't need a multi function

    • I've compared the cpp (cost per page) vs Fuji xerox laser, and the winner is this one. Just picked mine up earlier today from HN.

      • I think you should double check tour numbers to be sure. The printer I have is a m205b from 2012 and it has a quoted 2.2k toner which I purchased on eBay aftermarket for $8 delivered. Now they are quoted figures that are subject to change based on usage however at 0.0036c per page I would be very surprised if you are anywhere near that with any ink jet unless you are looking at continuous ink options.

If you had figures to the contrary I would be interested in seeing them if you care to share.
