Kogan 1400W Vitablast Blender $69 Delivered

740

PRODUCT RECALLED - SEE THIS FORUM TOPIC:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/179358

Originally posted on Whirlpool.

Was advertised $129 delivered two days ago, despite the page saying it "Was $99" (which it was prior).

If you have purchased it within the last 14 days, you may be able to get a credit of the difference through Kogan's Price Drop Guarantee.

Read the Whirlpool thread for user reviews of the unit, from which I can tell all have been positive.

EDIT: Warranty can be added during purchase — 3 years total for $12, 5 years total for $15 — however to save a couple of dollars you may skip this, as Kogan may send an email post-order offering ~15% off a warranty upgrade.

EDIT 2: Kogan's eBay item has had its price lowered in line with their web site, now $70.38 delivered. Looking at its past sales, someone unfortunately bit the bullet at almost double the price. An alternative for those who prefer to buy through eBay, however you may not have the option for Kogan's Price Drop Guarantee on items from their eBay store, and (from what I could tell) there is no option for extended warranty through the eBay checkout process.

EDIT 3: Price has jumped back to $99, however it's still $70.38 delivered on eBay. Read the above edit for more info about the eBay item.

  • Looks a lot better than the cheap target ones which burnout after a few weeks. Kinda like a cheaper vitamix, might get one.

  • +3

Looks identical to the $99 Aldi blender on special 6 December. This had 5 year warranty, for which Kogan charges $15 to extend from the standard 1 year. Agree it is a good blender.

    • +1

Agree it is a good blender

      the aldi or the kogan?

while they may look identical (probably from the same factory) some/all of the internal components may be different. i wouldn't necessarily assume that they are the exact same blender.

but yes, no doubt it's from the same factory. have the aldi blender, and it's been great so far. looks like this one does the job too. $69 is a bargain!

      • +1

The Aldi, but can see no difference from the Kogan apart form markings, so is unlikely they would have different internal components. Even the accessories are the same! I think it is almost certain that they are the same blender.

        • +2

i wouldn't be so sure…same factory? almost definitely. same blender? perhaps not.

you have to understand how kogan/chinese manufacturing works: the factory is set up to make all these blenders (hence why they all look the same). the difference comes in the components selected by each buyer. kogan and aldi might select the same low cost components, or maybe not.

both companies definitely would be choosing components at the lower end, to cut costs. my gut feeling is that the kogan would use the cheapest parts possible.

eg. the lids: multiple people have mentioned about the lids on the kogan not sitting flush. obviously the lids are rejects/lower quality ones that have not passed the quality control of other buyers. it's the exact same thing with the "samsung/lg panels" in kogan tvs…sure, they are samsung/lg panels, but they were the "B-stock"/rejects.

        • +5

@caprimulgus: They're probably buying the factory rejects/seconds and slapping the Kogan badge on it. Even that is probably giving them too much credit. Kogan branded products are bottom of the barrel crud. They've only survived so far by appearing on A Current Affair/Today Tonight every fortnight which gives the bogans a cheaper alternative to Harvey Norman.

        • +7

          @pmupsinep:

…and based on that endorsement, how can I resist? I just don't know whether I should spend my dole money on a carton of Woodies to celebrate Christmas or get this.

        • @bxpressiv:

just to clarify, i'm not saying this isn't a good deal, or that they aren't the exact same blender. that is something that we can only speculate on, until someone opens them up and compares them directly.

FWIW (which is probably not much), my feeling is that the kogan one uses the cheapest possible components (rejects with slight defects, or just low quality parts). the question for me is: is the aldi any better? possibly not! they also make their products to a price point, so i also wouldn't be surprised if aldi used the cheapest parts possible.

the only thing that may indicate (slightly) better components in the aldi is that they offer a 5 year warranty…for that reason they might choose the second-to-lowest quality parts instead of the absolute lowest! :)

and also FWIW, i am more than happy with my $99 aldi blender, and had i missed out on that, i most definitely would have purchased this kogan blender, no question! (i'm still considering getting one!)

so don't think i'm just kogan hating (i'm not, and have bought various stuff in the past)…just being realistic about what we're getting for the money!

but hey, take it with a grain of salt! :)

        • -1

          @caprimulgus:

You said it best yourself …speculation is just that! And your posts are full of speculation - from your assertion that Kogan use the cheapest parts to Aldi using the 'next-to' cheapest parts, to Kogan using "B-stock/reject" panels from Samsung/LG. Are you even aware that there are only a handful of TV panel manufacturers out there (Samsung, LG, Toshiba just to name a few) who then make panels for other companies such as Sony and Kogan? To claim that these other companies use rejects is so far off the mark, it's not funny.

Your assertion/speculation that Aldi must use better components because they offer a 5 year warranty could just as easily be explained by the fact that Aldi charged $99 for what could be the same blender - which Kogan is only charging $69 for with a 1 year warranty - do your math with the additional warranty Kogan is offering and you might be surprised as to what the total comes out to!

It seems all you're trying to do is justify your $99 spend on a blender that Kogan is selling for $69 ….

        • +2

          @schlongtheabuser:

from your assertion that Kogan use the cheapest parts to Aldi using the 'next-to' cheapest parts

which i clearly stated was speculation.

to be clear, my assertion is that both companies use cheap parts. whether one company uses CHEAPER parts or not, i have no idea…that is pure speculation, as i very clearly stated.

to Kogan using "B-stock/reject" panels from Samsung/LG

sure, this is speculation, but it is almost certainly true.

Are you even aware that there are only a handful of TV panel manufacturers out there (Samsung, LG, Toshiba just to name a few) who then make panels for other companies such as Sony and Kogan?

          yes, i am.

i am also aware that they grade their panels, and sell them in lots to various buyers. some companies have higher minimum standards than others, and thus will choose certain panels from the production yield. the remaining "rejected" panels will be sold to other buyers at a cheaper price. a "rejected" panel doesn't necessarily mean it is faulty in any way.

To claim that these other companies use rejects is so far off the mark, it's not funny.

uh, no. it's not. it is exactly what catleap (and other korean sellers) do with b-grade apple cinema displays. and it almost certainly is what kogan does with samsung/lg panels.

yes, i am speculating, but it makes absolutely no sense that a low-cost made-to-a-price manufacturer would choose A grade panels. the cost would be prohibitive. show me evidence that kogan uses the same GRADE panels as samsung/lg. until then, without further evidence, i'm pretty comfortable with my speculation more likely than not being true.

Your assertion/speculation that Aldi must use better components

i didn't say that. i did not say that aldi MUST use better components - in fact i said it is highly possible they use the exact same crappy components!!!

could just as easily be explained by the fact that Aldi charged $99 for what could be the same blender - which Kogan is only charging $69 for with a 1 year warranty

until today, kogan was selling these for $99 (and maybe even $129), so your logic fails.

It seems all you're trying to do is justify your $99 spend on a blender that Kogan is selling for $69 ….

not at all! i think it's clear to everyone that i am merely pointing out that it is totally unclear whether or not these blenders are exactly the same or not! i'm not saying they AREN'T, i'm just pointing out that they MIGHT not be. i even suggested that they quite possibly might be exactly the same, and that in any case i still thought it was a great bargain and was considering purchasing one myself!!!

you want to paint me as an anti-kogan hater suffering from post-purchase rationalisation. i think to anyone with half a brain (and competent reading comprehension skills), this is not the case.

you are clearly butthurt that i've pointed out truths about the manufacturing process…i'm guessing either you work for kogan, or are rationalising your own purchases of kogan products! ;)

as i've said, i own kogan products, so i am in no way just an anti-kogan hater….i'm just realistic about what exactly their offering is.

but feel free to take it as you will. :)

        • -3

          @caprimulgus:

Again everything you have said above is speculation … but then you try and justify this speculation as some sort of fact with your words " but it is almost certainly true". Unless you know definitively the claims that your are making are fact - eg. you have insight into Kogan's business practices as you work for them - then all your comments are baseless speculation.

I am not going to bother with you any more as you simply don't get it!

Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy that blender of yours on a hot day like today - makes me wish I had one!

        • +1

          @schlongtheabuser:

Again everything you have said above is speculation

i have been very clear and transparent about exactly what is and is not speculation.

then all your comments are baseless speculation.

i said that companies use "b-grade"/"rejected" stock. i gave an example of korean monitors using b-grade/rejected apple cinema displays. this is not speculation, THIS IS FACT.

the lids on kogan blenders have been reported by multiple users not to fit properly. this is not speculation, THIS IS FACT.

i have given evidence to back up my speculation. (and common sense supports my speculation pretty well too…)

please show me the facts you evidenced to back YOUR rebuttal of my specultation. oh wait, you don't have any…;)

have a nice day, and enjoy your kogan products! ;)

        • -6

          @caprimulgus:

I said I wouldn't …but, ok! where exactly is your evidence? making a comment about someone/something is not evidence of any sort. Show me your evidence for the following comments you made:

"sure, this is speculation, but it is almost certainly true."

"i am also aware that they grade their panels, and sell them in lots to various buyers."

"some companies have higher minimum standards than others, and thus will choose certain panels from the production yield."

"the remaining "rejected" panels will be sold to other buyers at a cheaper price"

          "you are clearly butthurt"

After you fail here, look up the word speculation and then look up the word fact/truth, the two are not interchangeable and you can't use them in the same sentence as you have. I was trying to be nice in the spirit of Christmas, but you know what you can go and choke on your blended drink now! ; p

Can't wait for you to have the final word now …

        • +1

          @schlongtheabuser:

where exactly is your evidence? making a comment about someone/something is not evidence of any sort.

-manufacturers grade their stock, and buyers will use different graded stock: see apple/catleap monitors (and product binning in general, ie. LEDs or GPU sorting).
-this blender uses parts that don't fit properly: see the thread on whirlpool above, where people have experienced lids that don't fit properly.

          that is evidence.

"sure, this is speculation, but it is almost certainly true."

uhh, can you read the first four words in that sentence?

(ps. the supporting evidence for the second half of the sentence is everything else i have written.)

"i am also aware that they grade their panels, and sell them in lots to various buyers."

          product binning:
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_binning

          example in other manufacturing:
          http://www.lighting.philips.com/pwc_li/main/connect/Lighting…

          example in monitor panels:
          http://lifehacker.com/three-cheap-but-awesome-alternatives-t…

"some companies have higher minimum standards than others, and thus will choose certain panels from the production yield."

refer above, re: apple cinema displays.

"the remaining "rejected" panels will be sold to other buyers at a cheaper price"

refer above, re: korean displays using b-grade panels produced for apple cinema displays.

          "you are clearly butthurt"

see above, re your poorly evidenced, reactionary and defensive argument.

look up the word speculation and then look up the word fact/truth

i am completely aware of what each of these words mean, and the difference between fact and truth, and i have used each and every word correctly, thanks.

I was trying to be nice in the spirit of Christmas, but you know what you can go and choke on your blended drink now! ; p

well, that's not very nice…i still wish you all the best in enjoying your kogan products. :)

          good day, sir. :)

        • +3

          @schlongtheabuser:

Can't wait for you to have the final word now …

my final word is, i'm sure this is really boring to everyone, so let's be clear:
-i believe this kogan (and aldi) blender uses cheap parts.
-i have provided reasons why i believe this to be so.
-it really doesn't matter to me in the slightest whether you or anyone else agrees with me.
          -the end.

i really have nothing else to say on the matter than the above four points, so you are more than welcome to have the last word. now excuse me while i go choke on my blended drink! :)

        • +6

@caprimulgus: Don't waste your Christmas break arguing with Kogan staff.

        • @caprimulgus:

Also aldi got 60 days return policy..

and don't need to post it back

Some aldi products seem pretty good quality…

    • Loving the blender and the 5 year warranty :)

      Warranty handling ALDI vs Kogan?

For me ALDI is easier to deal with regarding warranty returns and physical store convenience.

Only problem is limited stock availability in-store and a few extra dollars to pay for it compared to Kogans price.

      :)

  • Bought one for myself, and one as a late xmas gift for a friend! At this price (and with the 5 year warranty) it's worth a shot!

  • bought one + 5 yrs warranty.

  • Has anyone tried the Kogan pie maker which is currently $25 dollars?

  • +5

I bought this blender when it was $99 + 5yr wrt a month ago. It works flawlessly and blends anything to a smooth texture. nuts, ice, all veges, fruits, all frozen fruits.

First few runs the blender had that "electronic" funny smell when U run it. Seems gone now. Just read up on precautions such as running it longer than a few minutes.

Only been using it for health shakes. Beats the crap out of my mates nutribullet.

So easy to clean too, just rinse.

I'm going to buy another for a late present.

PS: I was reading up on the Aldi version and found out it was recalled due to the possibility of blade snapping and a replacement of the whole jug and blade was the remedy. Looking at this kogan one, blades are not the same as the Aldi and so must have already the "newer" blades.

    • out of interest, can you take a photo of the blades on the kogan?

i can compare to the new aldi blades at home.

      • +1

Pretty dodgy pic.. but here. http://imgur.com/x0Z6U2L

      • @caprimulgus and others who have the ALDI/KUCHEF (eg. oztonyau), have you applied for the replacement blade/jug from them and if yes, how did you find the process?

        • +1

my aldi blender is one of the new batch after they fixed the fault, so I haven't had to apply. but my friend bought one of the earlier ones with the fault, and just got his replacement today. it was an extremely simple process, just sign up on the website, and they'll send it out to you (and give you packaging to send the faulty one back).

        • +1

          @caprimulgus:

Thanks very much for the reply & a Merry Smoothie X'mas to you and your loved ones!

    • People who already use this, how would this compare with Nutribullet in performance?

      • it would be better

nutribullet has very small blades and motor..

        • That said, the Nutribullet cups have a smaller capacity compared to this unit's jug so its required power may not be as relevant.

Personally I haven't tested either so I cannot compare.

The person two above you states this unit "beats the crap out of my mates nutribullet," so I can only assume it works very well.

      • These high power blenders are very different to the nutribullets and other standard blenders. Check out this picture of a kale & berry smoothie one made in a decent 750W Breville blender (on the left) and the other in a 1400W Vitamix. You can see that both have done a decent job chopping the kale leaves and pureeing the berries, but the VItamix has really broken the kale at the cellular level, allowing the green chlorophyll to spill out.

        http://bit.ly/1H8EKgd

Regardless of volume, the Vitamix-style 1000W+ blenders produce a qualitatively different output to the slower motor blenders (including the nutribullet).

    • The Aldi version was recalled in October and the product affected sold "in New South Wales, ACT, Queensland and Victoria between 31 May 2014 and 1 July 2014." See http://www.applianceretailer.com.au/2014/10/aldi-blender-rec…

Aldi recently had it for sale again on the 6/12/2014 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173439) so I would hazard a guess to say the problem has been remedied on the recent version.

Given this I would not assume the Kogan has "newer" blades, and may actually have the older recalled ones, but this is speculation.

The question remains which if any has the old problem blades Kogan or Aldi or none?

      • That was the old batch they manufactured mid this year.

The new batch is dated / manufactured 12/2014 (48137) where the problem has been rectified :)

I got it from aldi just because of the soup function and so far it works good warm soup every day lol

  • So cheap, but I already got a Vitamix. Do I need this?

    • +6

Need is such a loose term on OzB
You are asking us, its a bargain, so ofc…

  • +3

Does anybody know how does warranty works with Kogan? If this stops working after 2 years and I have 5 yrs warranty, Do I need to send this at my expense?

Edit: Called Kogan and they will arrange pickup within warranty period.

  • how well does it blend fruit and ice?

    • My Aldi blends ice, fruit and even raw carrots.

  • -5

He can sell it for $1 and I still wouldn't buy a single thing from that gypsy.

    • +5

      why?

  • +1

If I ordered now would they ship now or wait until after Christmas? I usually get stuff delivered to work and I won't be there for the next two weeks…

        Parcel Locker Address
        Suburb, City, Postcode

Do you just type the whole parcel locker address into the address box?

        • +2

Yes, the parcel locker number acts the same as a house number, enter all the info into the address.

Bought one with 5 year warranty. I usually never go for warranties but for only $15 I thought I may as well…

  • Been in the market for a blender but wanted something high powered, hopefully this fits the bill. Got the warranty as well. My budget was <$100.

  • +1

A lot of other blenders like to mention that their jugs are BPA free, but theres no mention of this with Kogan's. Also interesting to see that their blender and jug costs less than what others are charging for just the jugs, shows what massive margins could be made, even if those others by chance use higher quality material.

    • +3

BPA is a concern when you leave fluids in a BPA container for a long time and/or allow the plastic and fluid to heat up, like leaving a water bottle in a car for a month.

Leaching is a concern with almost all plastics. BPA is a concern because it can have an effect like oestrogen. This is known because BPA was tested as an artificial oestrogen replacement (but was extremely poor compared to other substances). Most other plastics haven't been studied this much.

That said; BPA water bottles left in your car for a month are not a suggested replacement for the pill for ladies or hormone replacement therapy for those transitioning. If you leave a smoothie in your car for a month I think you'll have bigger concerns than BPA leaching.

Researchers suggested using glass bottles for babies (just to be safe).

    • Any experts here confirm if the jug is actually BPA free? The big difference in price definitely raised suspicion about the material of the jug made of. Does it say BPA free on the kogan's jug?

  • +2

My Kogan $10 loyalty voucher just arrived… drops the price to an even better $59!

Check your junk mail before ordering incase yours arrived too :)

  • Any additional warranty for more money on such a cheap item seems ridiculous to me. You're covered by normal consumer protection regardless and while that quite likely will not cover you for 3 years it will cover a substantial portion of it if my experience is anything to go by.

    That's just my estimation anyhow.

(Actually thinking about it maybe I would bite if it was a buck or two. But 12? Not me.)

    • +2

I'm not sure you would be covered by normal consumer protection, seeing as Kogan sends stuff from outside Australia, and you don't pay GST.

      • +1

Correct, the contract is with Kogan HK, not Kogan AU. No support under Australian law, even if the device injured someone or set fire to something.

        • Yeesh… that Ruslan's got a good sca, er, thing going.

  • how easy it is to deal with warranty?

    P/S I still haven't got the $10 voucher! why?!

    • From my comment posted above, doesn't look bad. By calling Kogan, they will arrange goods to be collected. So consumer will not bear cost of sending to them. If they cant repair, they will replace. Sounds good to me

  • originally purchased a russell hobbs from ttg for $40,800 watt, cancelled that order and purchased this one instead, going by the reviews well worth the $$$ spent

  • I've tried to buy this twice in the last hour.. First was with amex got some red error message.. So tried again with MasterCard and it just sat processing for 10 minutes so I gave up…

Maybe sold out already or something ?

    • +3

I just bought one then using Paypal no issues at all. Maybe try with Paypal instead?

Cheers for the post OP :-)

  • Finally worked :) 3rd time lucky, tried amex again and it was fine.. Woohoo

  • Shall I buy one? mmm I need to make super smooth blended baby food so there is no chunks in them.

    • A powerful blender such as this will do the trick (and this is a good price).. The other alternative would be too mash it with a a potato ricer then push the mash through a sieve, though this would only work with well cooked veggies.

  • Do want but no voucher from Kogan. How can an ozbargainer pay 69 when could get for 59!refresh mail box again :(

is the voucher only sent to members who purchased rently?

  • Well now that I know about the voucher, I'm gonna hold off on buying it until I get it

Keeping my fingers crossed for you :)

The mail I rec'd was titled "Merry Christmas - Complimentary $10 Gift Card Inside" in case you lose it in amongst the other 500 Kogan emails we receive each day…

  • Fact about extended warranties : Having worked in the industry, I can tell you that in over 95% of the cases it's never claimed.

Not even sure what this warranty covers. I was annoyed when I tried to claim on another extended warranty from a different provider when a piece broke making my purchase unusable. They said I can't claim because it's not a mechanical fault and the device still works. Hope the Kogan warranty is more reasonable than that.

  • Had to throw out my previous blenders because they provided no Nutritional benefits. These have Nutri and 'vita's so seem to be the way to go. My juicer had to go when it had too much sugar and was making me fat surfing this website

your doing it wrong,,you don't eat the blender

  • Has this expired? It shows up as $99 after I add to my cart

    • Guess so. But their ebay store still sell for $70.38. Read details of description from OP.

      • Too bad, I was looking at getting the extended warranty.

Should be back at $69 for the wrestling day sale.

  • Thanks Stebie. I have been considering buying a blender of some description over the last week and had done a little research, enough to realise the better respected blenders are the larger type with more power and usually well over $100, $200+. Missing out on a deal on this site last week I did a quick read of the Whirlpool post (gotta love Whirlpool) and decided I probably would not get anything better for that sort of money and decided to take a punt before stock or offer expired. Don't always go for extended warranty (as often 50% of item price) but for 5 year warranty for a little over 20% of item price I thought worth it as burnt out motor is probably biggest risk. Repair or replace with equivalent with freight covered - good value for $15 extra even if in 4 years time it has to be replaced with something not as good ….I'll take that risk. If blender sold in big numbers under various names I suspect parts will be available a for a while if needed. So ordered it this morning ….now find the offer has expired at that price, I'm smiling!!

  • Ebay price is now $100.98,,,he he he

  • Mine arrived this morning, made up simple breakfast smoothie, machine is awesome, fast reasonably quiet and mixes well, taste of the smoothie needs word

Just received the blender today, wifey not happy I spent more money on this. Anyone in Melbourne want this thing? (Still in box) for $79?

    • why $79 when it only cost you $69?

      • Sorry, fat fingers :( I meant $69. I can't even edit my prev comment now.

        • ah cool, all good. sorry, that's my fault (you can't edit a post after someone's replied).

    • What didn't your wifey not like about the blender??

      • She doesnt like that it has only one 2L jar (I think she has something else in mind - something she saw at DJ). Tried to surprise her…

I received my one today and the quality is the same with my vitamix blender which is 999 bucks. i think you will regret if you don't keep it….

        • @dingklang:
to me the kogan blender looks sounds and feels like the vitamix 1005,, very odd,,but pretty sure the vitamix are made in the usa (supposedly)
