No free shipping no Deal. Estimated shipping was $8.
    No Deal.

    • I agree. Bloody time wasters. They did the same thing on their last post till a mod added it in.

Seems a bit harsh to give a neg. The cheapest on ebay is $20.45 delivered from Hong Kong.

      • +2

        A lot harsh I think.

    • +3

How many people will buy just one? Very reasonable shipping if you buy 5+

    • "No free shipping no Deal."

The OP should have stated the shipping but even with shipping it is a good price, especially if you buy a few. To neg this for the dud reason you mentioned was rubbish imo.

now to find it at Bunnings for a Price Guarantee. (Probably Superceded Model)

  • +1

I've been buying the Philips range lately as bunnings have them in store discounted. Here is the nearest I could find on the website though http://www.bunnings.com.au/philips-7-5w-3000k-warm-white-edi…

The new model is 7.5W Link

This is a box image of the 8 Watter

It says you can't be used in an enclosure, so I'm out.

      • I wonder why they say it can't be used in an enclosure ?

The light would emit little heat. Could be because the light is directional upwards.

        • +2

I think it's to do with cooling to prevent the LED from cooking.

It says you can't be used in an enclosure, so I'm out.

All LEDs need ventilation. Even CFLs will have limited life in an enclosed fitting, as the electronics fries.

        • That said, these are near the price of the cheapest equivalent incandescent replacement anyway.

      • "It says you can't be used in an enclosure, so I'm out."

Ouch, that's a usefulness killer. I can imagine it also generated a relatively high failure and complaint rate.

        • LED Benchmark state that there is no written warranty on Philips LED in Australia.

  • do you have B22 for $3

  • +1

If you are shopping for that bulb and it suits then it is definitely a bargain if you purchase multiples.

    Eg. $2.99 x 4 =

    Subtotal $10.87
    Tax $1.82
Shipping & Handling (Flat Rate - Fixed) $8.00

    Grand Total $19.97

Lumens? Not stated but says 40W equivalent. Philips, like others, exaggerate this. Especially on older models.

This is probably good as a night-light.

  • +1

Way too bright for a night light. I'm using 7W 600 lumen in my toilets and they are very bright. They are cool daylight which may appear brighter to the eye of course. I may change them for a 4W and see if they are sufficient and use the 7W for bedroom lights.

    • -1

4W would be an eye strain when you're trying to compare with the Bristol Stool Chart on the back of the door.

      • +1

Ideally you'd also have a downlight to illuminate your own creation.

    • OK, 600 lumen is not too bad for 8W. I was joking about the night light, but would not use this in a bedroom unless it was one of the old-style triple-bulb lamps.

Maybe my eyes are just getting old, as my kids seem to be not bothered reading in near-darkness :-)

  • Just learn the chart by heart and then just use your hands to compare instead of your eyes….

  • Thanks OP, good deal :)

  • +1

OP, any chance of getting bayonet type bulbs too?

    • You can get adapters, which may help for some light fittings. Bayonet seems to be deprecated.

$8 shipping for a light bulb?

    • How much could you post a light bulb for including packing materials and postage to the other side of the country? Would you use any padding? Would you just shove it in a postbag? Would you donate your time to pack and address it?

      Reality check. Sheesh!

      • +1

Its not just the bulb thats a bit dim :)

  • About to buy 6 of them and sold out…bugger!
