    Recommendations?
Fairly new to this reading gambit (at least since being a kid anyway)..
Started my adult reading with the Song of Ice and Fire series, then to Feist's Magician (which I thought was a bit basic), progressed through the Kingkiller Chronicles (which I loved), then the First Law Series (brilliant) and currently enjoying The Gentlemen Bastard Series.

    • The Lord of the Rings is a fantasy standard for a reason. The depth of the world Tolkien created is just astounding.

Also give Dune (Frank Herbert) a go. It's a little harder to get into, very complex, but brilliant.

    • Have you tried this? http://www.goodreads.com/

Sounds like you are into the fantasy genre.. you have got some great books there. This is a great list site - http://bestfantasybooks.com/ - of purely fantasy and its multitude of sub genres. Provides some good insight on the types of books to read good or bad.

I have read everything you have listed and you are definitely on the right track. Robert Jordan series starting with Eye of the World is epic long, but has a great story and wonderful character development. Also another great author is Brandon Sanderson - a good starter for his works is "Elantris" - coincidentally since Robert Jordan passed - he finished the eye of the world series for him, which is a huge accolade and honour to take over such a huge legacy.

Just my 2 cents. Keep up with the reading :)

        Thanks for the suggestions..
Not just Fantasy, it's just that I've been following that trail after picking up reading again due to Game of Thrones. Once I'd devoured that series, I was looking for similar, hence the Fantasy trail above.

Used to love the politics in Tom Clancy back in High School, but his newer books are too "Team America" these days (or maybe I've become more aware of it).

scubacoles you get an upvote just for mentioning the Kingkiller Chronicles and First Law. I'm going to check out The Gentlemen Bastard series since you seem to have a similar taste in literature to mine.

As a bonus, I'll suggest you read The Night Angel trilogy (The Way of Shadows, Shadows Edge, and Beyond the Shadows) by Brent Weeks.

      • Hehe, as I was suggesting to @scubcoles about the lists, I say the Night Angel Trilogy, and am literally starting to read it now. Looks good!

        • It's so hard to put down…

There's also a prequel book (perfect shadow) which I suggest you read after finishing the trilogy.

        • @Trickey: Hard to put down is an understatement.. I smashed through the first book in 3 days… let's just say work has been semi productive.. oh and look! it is 1:18am and I cannot sleep because of this damn book!

I will definitely check out the prequel!

    • Thanks All, it's good to have a list to check out in the future.
I was kinda thinking more along the lines of recommendations from these bargains though.

      • Me too. Went through the deals, but couldn't find any of these.
Thanks for the recommendations though, guys!

  • Does any of these have good Audible companions?
