  • What makes these so much more expensive that the generic $5 torches from Banggood and Gearbest? Tangspower is not a name I've heard of in led circles!

  • +2

Its been around, but dont think of these names as a brand. Its just the name many cloners use. Its not a brand, nor are 'Ultrafire' and a heap of others. They dont come from one factory, or one business owner etc.

Someone designs a torch. It gets copied by someone else, and that copy gets copied by someone and so on. Each time they look at ways to make it cheaper or faster, sometimes they use the same name, some create a variation on the name, for example Ive seen UranusFire. The quality goes down hill very fast, and even people who do this for a hobby, have no idea whats what until they are holding one. To make it worse, the sellers like BangGood/GearBesat/TMart/WhoFlungDung etc stock all versions, and within versions the makers start to cut corners. Its a crap shoot.

This particular version IIRC from a thread I read on a forum of torch nuts, showed it to be a dud. Theres so many, I could be mistaken though.

    Quality in a light?
    - Heat transfer ability, a decent plate of ally connected to the body for example under a direct path LED star to wick away from the LED (copper or ally, so long as its direct path). If the light gets hot in your hand, its doing its job (good light, at least as far heat management is concerned). If it doesnt get hot, and the light is bright, its not doing its job(bad light).
    - Now heat is wicked away, we can drive it harder and up its output.
    - Decent driver to achieve the above with mode spacing we like.
    - Heavy (by torch standards) wire to move more current (less resistance) to the driver/LED/Switch
    - Good anaodising HAIII
    - AR Lens
    - Quality threads and machining
    - Quality o rings and a good seal
    - Adequate switch to handle the current and use
    - Nice beam profile, no ringiness or holes in the light.
    - This list could get very long

    Meh, its just a torch.
