    • Battery life is 24 hours at moderate use.

      • +1

I get about 3 days out of mine. That's with the always-on display turned off.

        • I get 2 full days of use easily with always on screen turned off.

Took mine off the dock at 7:30 this morning, after 14hrs, 79% remaining.

        • Forgive me, I've done heaps of googling but can't seem to find the answer - how long does it take to charge the LG G Watch from empty.

Also, how fast a charge can it accept - I understand only comes with a 850mA adapter - can it accept a higher charge rate ?

          Thanks

        • +11

          Then don't buy it!

        • -4

          @holden93: You know me well.

        • +6

Your smartphone only lasts a day too. You should say NO NO to such low-end immature technology!

        • +1

          Then get a Pebble.

It lasts a week on one charge, costs ~$69-79 and does a reasonable percentage of the useful functions of the Android Wear efforts.

Speak for yourself. LGG2 master race.

    • +1

my thoughts too. a daily charge isnt a watch at all.

      • -1

You also have to consider the power save on your phone. My batt life on my phone has doubled since i got my LG due to monitoring my notifications via my watch = less phone screen time.

Before I got it I was like…meh. Now I dont think I can do without it.

        • +1

I'm going to have to disagree about the battery life. My battery would die quicker because I have to have bluetooth on so the watch can connect. So unless you had bluetooth always on anyway, or you have your phone brightness really high I don't see how your phone battery would last longer.

        • +2

@jimmy5225: That depends on your phone-checking habits and how many notifications you receive.

If you receive a lot of emails that don't require an immediate reply, you'll be able to save your phone battery by glancing at them on your watch instead of turning on your phone each time. Phone screens are a bigger battery drainer than Bluetooth running in the background.

It might not last longer for you, but it could make a difference to someone with different phone habits to you.

I've always had Bluetooth on all the time on all my phones. That way it'll automatically connect to my car's handsfree, as well as Bluetooth earphones and speakers.

      • +1

The original "watch", wearable time pieces are mechanical. The wind lasted one day. So, this is exactly like a watch at all.

      • +1

a daily charge isnt a watch at all.

Sure it is - you constantly need to keep a watch on the battery level!

    • +1

I don't consider my smartwatch just a watch. I see it as a smartphone accessory that also tells time, so I don't mind charging it every time I charge my phone. Longer battery life will always be welcome, but I personally don't mind the 1-2 day battery life I get now.

  • Does the discount only show up in the cart? Not showing for me on the page.

Seems a good deal but would love if there was some way to get it sans the delivery fee :)

    • +1

Yes, only shows up in cart - post amended

My spiel from the other post (was beaten by a couple of mins) :(

Just noticed that the Google Playstore is having a flash sale of their LG G watch until the 11th December

    $99 + $15 shipping = $114.

    White model: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/LG_G_Watch_Whi…

Normally $249. Backed by Google Playstore returns as well - 2 weeks, postage paid, no questions asked.

Not the latest G Watch R but also a heck of a lot lighter.

Decent price for it vs. a Pebble in the same price range. I have a pebble. Its pretty nice for what it was 2 years ago, but Android wear is definitely the future as it continues to evolve.

Having said all that, as I have the Pebble I won't be getting one. All the android wear devices released thus far feel like alpha devices released for an alpha platform. Both hardware and software are evolving at a rapid pace and unless you desparately want something now, I'd wait.

I would choose the pebble over this, the design of it is a bit bland

    • +14

I guess so, the pebble is pretty ugly though.

      • Agreed. the normal plastic Pebble is ugly.

      • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :P

Who am I kidding, I agree it is ugly as…

But look at it this way: it will be an iconic watch in the years to come - the first mainstream smartwatch and the first Kickstarter success story. :)

    • +4

I would also prefer the pebble but not for the looks, for the 7 day battery life. I couldn't even imagine having to charge a watch every 1-2 days.

      • +1

I could never get 7 days, the most I got was 3-4 days. Then after the 2.0 update it plunged to 1 day, even after factory resets. No idea why. Tried the Samsung Gear then the Gear Live and never looked back! The color screen and more interesting designs (e.g. LG R and Moto 360) make up for the shorter battery life IMHO.

I really miss the Pebble's strong vibration though. So far the Wear watches I've tried have pretty anaemic vibration motors.

        • If you still have the Pebble, try removing your Pebble bluetooth pairing on the phone and the watch, then re-pair. Also, you can't have two Pebbles listed in bluetooth. This somehow reduce the battery life on the one Pebble that you use. I had these troubles when I upgraded the plastic Pebble to the steel Pebble.

        • @Jinster: It didn't help in my case. I changed phones and it was still 1 day. Some days it died by night time. Thanks for the suggestion though!

        • May be you were using a complex watchface on your Pebble? A less complex watchface should improve battery life.

Also, try disabling notification from apps you don't care much.

  • +1

still not too sure about android wear

    • Its tight!

Daily charge is a con but the OS has been beautifully designed IMO.

And as i mentioned in a previous post the saved batt life on your phone can double ur time between charges

      • why would anyone want to wear their watch to sleep ? so can notifications wake you up at night ?

        • +25

          Monitor OzBargain midnight/early morning specials.

        • +2

I wear my pebble most nights to track my sleep. If I set my alarm to 7am but my watch notices I'm in light sleep at 6.50 the alarm will go off early, waking me up easier and happier.

        • @DarkRyoushii:
are you using an app to do that, or does Pebble do it natively ?

I use "Sleep as Android" for what it's worth, absolutely love it.

        • @DarkRyoushii:

I tried a similar app on my phone before but it kills the battery so quickly that it won't last unless it's plugged in.

Can pebble even last one night without being plugged in?

        • @leonheart1:

I run my pebble for 3 - 5 days including sleep tracking, or 7 - 10 days if I don't track sleep. I only track on nights that I am working or have a place to be the next day.

        • @DJ: Sleep as Android does it when it detects you are connected to a Pebble or Android Wear device, difference being the amount of battery life used for each watch with the pebble being a clear winner.

  • +2

Nice timing for Christmas. Got a white/gold one for a present.

  • Officeworks price match?

    • Possibly worth it to get around the 1-2 day wait, you'd have to add the cost of delivery but still not bad.

  • Is this A$99 or US$99 ?

  • I read the charging pins on the back of the watch easily gets corroded from sweat and contact with skin.

I sweat easily so that's a deal breaker now. So tempted though…

    • +6

Wait for others to become cheaper. G Watch was more of a proof of concept. It's big, ugly, screen isn't great and battery life kind of sucks. G Watch R, Moto 360, Asus Zenwatch are where it's at.

      • Thanks for the pep talk deanylev :o)

    • +1

I wonder why they didn't integrate Qi charging. Would have been ideal.

    • +5

Nope - it's a fairly terrible design. It's literally a rectangle, but the pins have not become corroded. There was an issue with galvanisation but it was resolved with a software fix which disabled the pins when not charging.

I sweat and exercise daily and no sign of corrosion on my watch.

      • Thanks for the feedback phroghollow :o)

  • Damn it I just bought a Galaxy gear for the same price. Is this watch better? Should I return mine?

    • The LG looks really ugly

    • Did you get black one in Samsung with same price?

      • Mocha dark grey

        • From where?

        • I'm curious too. From where? I've never seen it that cheap.

    • I don't think it's worth sweating too much over 1st gen watches. I was waiting for the Moto 360 and G Watch R but settled on a fantastic pricing error on the G Watch. It does show that Android Wear has much potential though after 3 months of daily use.

  • Very interested in the potential of the G Watch for jogging. I'm currently doing a couch to 5k running program and use my note 3 with a set of bluetooth headphones.

Does anybody know if I would be able to leave my phone at home and use the watch as an MP3 Player with my bluetooth headset? and are there any running apps that will do custom walk/run intervals that work on the watch without a phone?

    • +2

You can download music from Google Play Music to the watch and then sync a BT headset to it. Instructions:
      http://ausdroid.net/howto/cache-listen-google-play-music-and…

BUT. You can't do much with running apps. There's no GPS on the watch, the only Android Wear watch with GPS is the Sony Smartwatch 3 (which costs $299). The Google My Tracks app supports tracking runs (Timing only really) on the G Watch.

      • Don't really care about tracking my location, currently using rundouble mainly for the prompts to walk/run at the set intervals. If I could do that and play music via bluetooth directly from the watch it will become a must buy. I love my note 3 but it's just a bit of a pain to try and jog with.

        • Yep, I hear you. Been jogging with all the Note phones as well as the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the LG G Flex bloody big phones.

    • You can stream mp3 directly from galaxy gear to Bluetooth headset directly, not cache like this.

  • waiting for a good deal on the G Watch R.. > $300 for a smartwatch is still too dear.. the moto 360 is so ugly with its flat tyre.. the band is better though

    • +10

You're the first person I've heard call the 360 ugly…

      • +1

        here's the second then…

        • +1

          Here's the third

        • +3

          @laser:

lol the flat tyre absolutely kills it for me.. otherwise yeah it's sexy and sleek

    • I have the 360 and honestly after a day you don't even notice it. The 360 is amazing.

  • Thanks ordered. Will go well with my oneplus one :)

  • +4

What have I done…. I already have a gear fit.

    • +1

same, but i am annoyed that in typical fashion samsung seem to have left it for dead…

  • Just pickup lg g watch r at harveynorman for $273 after $25 voucher and $30 amex , seem a good price, nice watch, love it.

    • That is a great price. Enjoy

  • Does this work with iPhone?

    • +3

No, it requires Android 4.3 to work.

  • +4

    well I guess I own a smart-watch now!

    • +1

      Welcome to THE FUTURE.

  • +3

I'm so tempted despite agreeing with the comments that Android Wear is very much alpha stage.

    • +3

Ditto. After reading the reviews, I'm deciding against the purchase for one simple reason - If it's going to be something that I'm buying out of novelty (which appears to be the case for most people), it's going to need to look a lot (profanity) nicer than this thing does.

  • I don't need this. I don't need this….but

  • I've had my G watch for a couple of weeks now. I pair it when I leave home at 6am and unpair when I get home 8pm. I get 3 days with charge to spare. Love this watch.

  • +1

Dammit Ozbargin.. you make me buy stuff I want but don't need. Bought 2 of em.

    • +3

      1 for each wrist?

    • +3

shoulda got 4 … your ankles will now feel left out… :(

  • I have a new one of these available pickup from Sydney CBD if anyone is interested.

Make me an offer as I don't like watches and won't use it.

Thanks and have a great day :)

  • Had gear live 2 weeks very happy $178 at Good Guy's keeps my exercise 24/7 no need to pair.i just about run it by voice commands good batt life about 20 hrs.very happy

  • +10

    I don't want this, I don't need this, I don't like this, I can't afford this…..but in the spirit of ozbargain I just bought myself one, and I am excited about it…….. wt???….. ;)

    • same here

    • I've just done the exact same thing

    • That's the spirit! Hahaha…

    • same here :S I was using Samsung Gear Live but it was faulty after 2 months of use, instead of replacement, Samsung offered refund instead. I should hold on to the cash… but now I'm writing this reply to convince myself that I did the right thing as Ozbargainer…

    • same here

  • +5

Why did i just buy this.

  • Because it's a bargain.

  • +3

The reviews make it look pretty useless.
I'll wait for the next gen.

  • +6

Cancelled. Going to wait for 1080p version.
