As of this edit (1pm Monday WST and way past 6pm PST), the games are still free. Will update if they announce anything more specific for AU. (Apologies if I don't - staying up to watch and I haven't slept yet.)

UPDATE: Now live on the US PSN store, so if you have a US PSN account you can grab the games now. Hopefully it goes live for the AU Store soon.

UPDATE 2: NOW LIVE FOR AU. I'M GOING TO SLEEP NOW.

  • Starts 7am AEST

  • Hasn't seemed to have gone live yet, so apologies if it doesn't - won't be able to update if it does while I go to sleep after this!

EDIT: Live for US right now.

  • 7am .. what now? I can't see it free in the AU store

    • Neither.. I guess they update our store at a different time.

    • It's live now. Have fun.

  • +2

So these are ours to keep permanently?

    • If you download it this weekend, yes, I would assume so.

      • +1

are you sure? i got the impression they were like steam's "free for the weekend" games … I'll check out the license details, as soon as the game downloads

        • Same here. Wording is everything. Assumptions are, well…

        • Yes its free forever, I watched the conference

    • it's EA, you never know what were their plan behind this Freebie deal.

First free Dragon Age Origins for Origin, then this one. Since most of the game are owned and developed by the EA or their subsidiaries, they can make this bold move without losing much budget (the game isn't fresh anymore by the way. It can't reach the peak for sales income anyway because their main target is teenager who always prefer new stuff)

Well their plan is for people from Steam (mostly) to re-consider Origins (which mostly Steam user think is one of the most Despicable & Scum Gaming Company who prioritize profit instead of Gaming Experience & Fun Meter ). THEN, when they installed Origins, just like Steam, they will have an ads when you Open the Origins or when you close your Game. Very Slick

  • Thanks OP. Got them from US PSN.
(Edit) confirmed on AU PSN as well.

  • Awesome

  • Just grabbed from the Aussie store no dramas - also worth mentioning that December's PS+ games are up now too, so if you're a member go nuts and add all 9 freebies in one go :-)

    • Link to December's games?
EDIT: Never mind… right there at the top.
      Not free though! Boo! :P

      • Weekend ended already dude.

  • Excellent! I also picked up Game of Thrones Season 1 Season Pass. It was $45 a couple of days ago, and only $33 now. It didn't show that it was on sale, so I don't know if that's a permanent price now or what.

  • Is there a deal for US PSN?

  • This is awesome. Thank you very much OP!

  • Ea we love you.

    • +21

      Lets not get crazy here.

  • excellent, PvZ is a pretty fun game actually, this is the sorta stuff they should be trying to do a bit more of for pS+ subscribers.

    • they do this every month!

      • For ps+ free games are not for you to keep forever unless you stay subscribed?

        • These games are for anyone with a PSN account - you don't have to be a PS+ subscriber.

Also, as probably pointed out elsewhere in this thread this is courtesy of EA Games - not Sony.

        • I wonder if there is a certain period of being a subscriber when your game just becomes free to keep. Was a subscriber for a year and a number of titles I got earlier on stayed accessible and free after my subscription expired.

        • @blahman: Which titles in particular?

I've noticed myself that certain games don't have an expiry date, though in my case they have all been cross-buy indie games.

eg. Spelunky, Hotline Miami, Don't Starve

        • @kamoi:

i think it depends how the PS+ game is registered, eg if there's an unlock key, you get to keep that

        • +2

@Curiosity: Unlock keys for PS+ games? Do those even exist? :P

I've been a subscriber for a long time and the process has always been the same. Add to cart, Checkout, Confirm. Game is now in your library.

        • @kamoi:
Every single game I downloaded up to and including Pay Day: The Heist.

        • @kamoi:

Yea, some of them you download the trial version + unlock keys, you won't notice unless you check your download queue after you've added them.

      • Hehe, yes i know they do this every month, should have been clearer. I was referring more to the quality of the monthly releases sony provide.
In this case however it looks like it's being billed more as a freebie being provided by EA rather than being provided by Sony themselves.

  • Fantastic! Thanks OP!

  • thanks so much OP—-im going out all day today and if i didnt check ozbargain this morning before i left i wouldnt have gotten these games ——LEGENDDDDD

  • Thanks OP :) what a great sight. I love PvZ, so much fun!

  • Thanks OP. Already got Mirror's Edge (bought for $2) but a digital back up is nice. Don't have a PS4 as yet but getting PvZ now is nice to ensure I do have at least one game when I get one.

    • How do you do it? We are getting a ps4 for the kids for Xmas. How do I download the ps4 game if I only have PS3?

      • +4

It's complex - you have to add it to your cart, and then confirm the purchase ;)

      • Create a PSN account and click on the OP links to add to basket and checkout. It will be there in your PSN account all you need is to activate your PS4 when you get it and download.

      • Just to be clear, you don't go into the stove via your PS3… do it via the website on your PC using the links above. That might be where the confusion is for you.

        • +4

If you do attempt to enter the stove please be sure to only enter if it is turned off and is no longer hot.

        • +1

          @Where's_That_Cake:

LOL, nice catch. Damn finger when down not up on the keyboard.

        • lol, console games but need a PC to purchase them, the irony :)

        • +1

@Ebany: you actually don't, they can be purchased from the console, from a phone, from a tablet, from another console etc

  • Wow didn't expect to wake up to such great news! Played PvZ a lot on Xbox 360, but couldn't justify buying it again on PS4. This is pefect.

  • +8
  • Thanks, PvZ not really my type of game but at that price I'll take it.

    • -3

Huh what price? It's free! Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP - appreciate you posting this!

  • -1

is it gone from the PS store??? i can't find it…

  • Wow! 3 free games! Thanks OP!

  • +2

This is the greatest day of my life

  • +1

Can someone without a vita or ps4 get this now if they are getting a console in the near future?

    • +3

      Indeedy :)

  • +1

I've got 8GB free but i still get the error that i have insufficient space when downloading mirrors edge which is listed at being 5.0GB?

    Anyone come across this issue??

    • +3

I have heard about this before but never had it first hand. It is (I believe anyway) because the PS3 requires you to have the necessary install space free as well. So for example, if this game takes up 5GB after install, you would need a total of 10GB (5GB for download + 5GB for install).

Google something like "double space needed for download PS3" and you will find lots of stuff on it.

      • +3

Yep looks like this was the case. I needed to get to 10gb free in order to download.. Thanks!

  • Awesome! Was hoping for PvZ! Thanks OP!

  • thanks, OP. downloading PvZ now. the update is bigger than the game, lol.

    • +2

Nah, the game is 14gb. 3.18gb is just the initial install.

  • Amazing games, and especially glad to have Mirror's Edge and NFS Most Wanted on PS3 :)

    • +6

Most wanted is only free on vita?

      • +2

Yes you're right, my mistake. In the PlayStation store when I purchased the 3 free games from my phone, it showed PS3 as one of the compatible devices, when they actually meant that you can download the game to your console to be installed on a Vita. The error seems to have been corrected since then.

  • Awesome news to wake up to. Thanks OP.

  • Awesome.

Not sure if it was just me but both of these were free on the Vita also:

    Jak and Daxter &
    Sly Trilogy

Could just be a cross-buy thing but thought it was worth mentioning.

    • +1

They are both cross-buy, they are still full price in SEN.

  • -1

wtf! Why don't us PC users ever get free/cheap games.

    • +1

Seriously? You've never heard of stream game sales? I bought hundreds of games that I've never played thanks to their sales.

      • +3

No, I've never heard of stream game sales tbh :p

        • The Banter is good with this one.

        • @TheOneWhoKnocks: this one has been bored today ;)

      • wtf! Wtf is stream?

        • Its a typo. Seiko meant steam.

        • Damnit, you got in before me!

      • -2

I heard Steam was one Sunday short of a virus, like that iSoftware which ships with Apple stuff …… not sure if they can be trusted.

    • +1

wtf! Look up steam, it gets PC users free/cheap games

    • EA have pretty much been giving free games monthly on Origin for many months now though, but no extra holiday ones i guess.

    • Obviously not an Origin user or member of GOG.

      • -1

Origin user! I think I just tasted my own vomit for a moment ……

        • Origin is not like the EA Download Manager that came before it, it's really quite good now. Really fast to open and they have some competitive sales as well as giving away a lot of great quality games for free. The download speeds are also really good for me. If you have any issues their online support is the best of any online game distribution service. Should try things before you blindly bash them man.

        • @Agret: I literally just over-filled my bucket and spilled onto my keyboard so any typo's are your fault.

You sure you don't work for Origin cause I thought you said in reference to EA: "their online support is the best of any online game distribution service".

        • @Ebany: It's true man their support actually have the power to do anything to your account, you get a live chat session with them and they can fix any problem. With Steam you submit a ticket and wait 4 weeks to get a copy-paste page from the FAQ that is not even related to what you asked. I used UPlay support and they took awhile to reply to my ticket and took several replies to fix what was wrong. What other online game distribution service has a live chat that can fix your issues in under an hr?

        • @Agret: I can see you really like Origin so I won't tease about them anymore :/

Steam support is abysmal, and they have no problems doing illegal stuff and telling people to suck it up (e.g. not giving refunds).

          Uplay is basic.

GoG is by far the best, every problem I've ever had has been fixed.

Origin I've had bad experiences with, very very bad experiences - that includes their online support. EA was at a place that Steam is now heading, believed they were so powerful that people should slurrp up their garbage and love it. Doesn't matter if It's Windows, Apple, Sony, EA, or Steam, every big company seems to realise they're powerful enough to make their customers kneel.
EA is trying to improve but they're only now realising that it takes years to build trust and FA time to destroy it. Eventually they will get a cult following back like Steam does.

Hell, I could say Origin sux and people wouldn't even blink. If I said Steam sux I'd probably get neg'd into oblivion.

        • @Ebany: yeah steam sales are being under run by competitors everywhere now and their support is abysmal for such a large player in the market. They have a lot of questionable business moves but they still offer the best service in terms of features.

Although my library in steam is by far the largest I have no problems using competitors services like Uplay and origin when they run good sales and offer different things. I certainly don't have brand loyalty which is why I oppose people just bashing uplay/origin. At least you have had a negative experience to backup your original comment as I know most people just bash them because they aren't Steam.

Gog are great for support, put real effort into making sure games they sell work on modern platforms (steam has absolutely zero effort), no drm, run a lot of sales but Gog galaxy is taking a long time. Nobody wants to manually redownload entire games from the website every time a patch is released.

On Steam there has been Team Fortress 2 (completely free forever), Portal, PAYDAY The Heist, Left 4 Dead 2, Sniper Elite V2

Right now GOG are giving away Age of Wonders https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173230 and have previously given away a bunch of games.

As for cheap games check http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedeals/ and http://www.isthereanydeal.com/ where you can set it up to email you if any game you want drops below a certain price point.

      • Darn I missed Dead Space. Wasn't even on holidays or anything.

I think Witcher 2 from GOG was by far the best freebie.

        • It was only Dead Space 1 which has a really bad PC port, the aiming is awful. I finished it and it was playable once you got used to it but it was really far from ideal. Thankfully Dead Space 2/3 fixed the issues with that.

  • +4

Best thing ever that happen to my vita

  • Can anyone please tell me weather i can download it and then pause it and download it another time?

    • +1

      Of course you can. Enjoy.

    • +7

You don't need to worry too much about the weather to decide whether or not to download the game unless there is a thunderstorm and you don't have a surge protector etc. There are some free weather apps.

    • Just add it from the website, you don't have to download anything or even plug in & turn on your console.

Burnoutâ„¢ Paradise Complete Edition for $10.45 seems an OK price AFAIK
