Jawbone UP $69.99 at Coles Supermarkets

361

Coles currently has Jawbone UPs for $69.99. On checking the Internet for pricing, seems to be a bargain. Dick Smith has them for $109 at the moment. It is the old model and not the UP24 so you need to plug it into your phone to download the data. The upside is it has a longer battery life of nine days. I've been using mine for a few days now and I'm inspired to eat better and move more. I need all the help I can get. The alarm function is handy as it's silent and you can't miss you arm suddenly vibrating.

I called and asked Coles about them and was told it's an introductory price for two weeks only.

I love how Deal Posters now have to also sell the item to other OzBargainers.

Do we get a set of steak knifes?

          *knives.

Been this price for more than 2 weeks. Cheaper price delivered at OW http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/jawbone-up-la…

      • -4

This is OzBargain, 99c cheaper is 99 possible items of savings.

        • +1

Yeh 99 iron Philips jugs that we'll never ever get

  • +15

So… its a wristband that tells you in no uncertain terms that you are fat, lazy and probably ugly??

    • +4

I guess we have to say, things exist for a reason that not everyone can understand.

    • +5

Speak for yourself. I'm tall, dark and handsome. In fact I look a lot like George Clooney ;-)

    • +6

The fingers you have used to dial are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with the palm of your hand.. now.

    • Mate, I'll do it for free

  • +2

Only the latest model has ugliness recognition

  • I'd say this is better value: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170998

Upsides: Has bluetooth. About 1/3 the price.

Downside: Only works with the proprietary app.

I picked up the Jawbone Up 24 for $85 delivered from ebay. Brand new. Was bidding on it. Otherwise, if you want the Up 24 without bidding, i've seen it for $99

  • +2

Along with the more than 50% of the population that could use it, I like the magic band that tracks my movement and tells me I've eaten 200 calories more than I've expended for the day. About time someone did.

    • +1

-_- Why neg a deal if you don't like the product?

      • -2

That wasn't the reason for the neg. See my other post.

Mods, maybe read next time before revoking a legit (cheaper price) neg reason.

        • +1

The mods didn't remove your neg, users did - by giving you a bunch of negative votes on your comment.

  • +1

Been using it for a week now and am loving it

  • +1

How does this make the front page when it's not even the best price? And if my memory serves me right it's only selected stores ie Coles Mobile

    • +4

      Because people don't neg enough.

      No cheapest price - Neg.

Edit: Neg revoked as mods can't be bothered to read

    • Regular Coles. Do they have it at the petrol stations too?

  • +1

not sure why it is a introductory price when it is superseeded by the Jawbone Up24, Up3 and move. It's more like a clearance price

  • +3
    • Wow, but their UP24 price is scary…

    • +1

Am I missing something? Seems to be 69 at OW too.

      • +2

        99cents less, and free delivery.

  • Not too sure about the UP, but the UP24 now has 14 days battery life with the new firmware. I assume the firmware on the UP can be updated too.

    • UP24 only. The UP has pretty much nearly been removed from the Jawbone site altogether.

  • I bought this at Dicksmith for $54 a month ago, can use up for aprx. 10 days battery life

  • +1

George clooney is far from even being remotely good looking. Never has been. Office works will best that price. I'd prefer something with a screen. If Coles ( being a super market) stocks things like this item, it's most likely crap.

  • i thought about this one, but the reviews are really not that impressive.

  • +4

I know I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but this is simply another one of those products that's marketed to play on people's fears.

For far too long, marketing departments have known that they can charge exorbitant prices on anything they label is "for kids" - think about it, baby monitors, video baby monitors, now things that can connect your baby to your smartphone - all supposed to be giving you "security" and "peace of mind", but in reality, what's the difference between a basic baby monitor and one with all the bling - nothing.

The trend is now fitness. You can make any product, somehow link it to fitness and charge however much you want. People will buy it because they think it's somehow magically going to make them healthier. That's just playing on the widely known fears of obesity and bad health and the trendiness of fitness products.

As always has been the case, the key to fitness is exercise, a good diet and a balanced lifestyle. There's plenty of information on the internet and to be honest, it's actually not that hard to fit in some exercise every day, make the conscious decision to eat healthy, avoid the allure of McDonalds and make sure you get enough sleep and enough relaxation time…etc.

Not going to tell you what to buy or not - but seriously, before buying something like this - think about what it will add to your life that you can't just by making an effort. It's not going to magically make you healthy - which is what some lazy people seem to think when they buy into these things.

    • +5

I've got the UP24 and I didn't buy it because I'm lazy or I hoped it would magically improve my fitness. I bought it (and love it) because having data/tracking is motivational for me. I can see trends on how active I am over a day and try to meet goals, I can log workouts and track sleep. It's also a silent vibrating alarm which is great for waking up for work when you don't want to disturb your partner who is on another schedule. This product has nothing to do with playing on people's fears as you claim, it's a fun tool that motivates me to better myself. Alwaysseric, you said the reviews for the UP24 weren't impressive, well chalk me up as a positive one, I rate it. Link below shows some screenshots of the UP24's functionality.

I'm glad it works for you and I'm sure that it works for lots of people.

But I still think that there's nothing this can do that you can't do with what you already have. For example, with regards to how active you are in a day, you can just make a goal to be active by spending a certain amount of time exercising per day, or by dedicating time to go on a run or go to the gym. Of course, that's just my opinion - if you use it and love it, that's great too.

As for the alarm, you can use your phone to give you a vibrating alarm as well, which I personally use.

        • +1

Does your phone check if you are in a deep sleep cycle like the Jawbone does? I love my Jawbone Up24, only negative thing I can say is that you need to recharge it every 7 days and possibly the weird connector to charge it.

Definitely getting the new version as soon as it is available.

        • +1

          @scarface:

The new firmware increases the battery life up to roughly 14 days. Update it! :D

  • https://m.kogan.com/au/buy/fortis-digital-activity-and-sleep… Saw this on Kogan, don't own it but thought it may be worth sharing.

  • +1

One feature that Jawbone lacks the most is having web or desktop integration. I want to configure on a large screen at times, to be able to analyse data on a bigger screen and Jawbone sucks incredibly at this compared to its competitors. One thing I really like is it's design.
I don't know if they ever will implement this feature, people have been demanding it for years!

  • Not sure if matters to people but I noticed that Auspost has a sale on an activity/fitness tracker.

I can't find much info about the brand; 3SixT

Seems to be an ANZ brand. The model is the Edge. http://www.3sixtgear.com/product/activity-trackers/3sixt-edg…

Looks half decent and works wirelessly too.

Their site lists RRP @$99 but Auspost are selling it @$69 per http://catalogue.auspost.com.au/catalogue/surprise-everyone-…

    Anyone used the Edge before?

  • Fair warning: this model has a high failure rate. CBF googling for links, but if you do a quick search you'll find a ton of reviews, forums, reddit posts etc.

That is not to take away from the product though. I bought this model about 12 months ago and I loved it! Used it extensively for months, but it did eventually fail. In my case, the push button became unresponsive and you'd have to press it 10 - 20 times before it worked. I was inside the warranty period and went back to Dick Smith, they pretty much palmed me off and told me to talk to Jawbone. Spoke to Jawbone and they told me to go back to Dick Smith. After more back and forth I gave up and have a broken jawbone…

So yeah, great product but the QC could be improved.

    • About to put in for my 2 return/3rd UP (original) - first just failed for no apparent reason after 2 months use. the replacement has worked fine for 8 months, but the rubber casing is a) splitting, and b) stretching so that the button is no longer accessible.

      1 year warranty.

Aus returns (if not handled by your original retailer) are via FORCE in Perth [http://www.forcetechnology.com.au/]

      other notes
      - the original UP requires your device (android/apple) to have a full mic/speaker jack - items such as Nexus 7 only have a speaker jack - no mic - so no connection.
      - up24 I believe requires a specific level of Bluetooth LE compliance - older devices may not be supported.

The coffee app Jawbone advertise is ios only.

      • Re. failure did you try uninstalling the android/app store app and reinstalling it? Mine went dead and I found that brought it back online.

  • I have been looking at these health toys for Heart Rate Monitor and Sleep Record. These are the items that you cannot [including bp] correctly monitor yourself with ease or by putting on a show.

So far the Basis group are the most appealing but only service USA.

    http://www.mybasis.com/

If I could load results from the band into USA I would purchase but for now, HR monitor with band and watch most effective. Sleep, well partner wakes me when needed and not "are you feeling romantic".
