  • I got this email too. Just booked return flights for the wife and I from Perth to Sydney in September next year.

    $185 Perth > Sydney
    $1 Sydney > Perth

$372 all up for both of us return, not too shabby. There were flights from Per > Syd for $165 but we wanted to fly on a weekend so it was $20 more.

I would rather stay at home than fly tiger

I hate the way they change, cancel, delay flights. Then if you want a refund you have to wait up to 6 weeks..

flying is meant to be enjoyable, it's not with tiger

      • I've had plenty of good flights with Tiger. Jetscum have by far been the worst for me.

mine keeps showing $69 not $1

As a fairly regular flyer, I have to say that I've had really great experiences with Tiger over the last couple of years.

It's with Virgin and Qantas that I seem to have experienced delays and hiccups.

Sure their gates are a little further away and you may have to walk onto the tarmac, but I'm totally happy with that given their often great prices. Sometimes I feel that everyone is really clinging on to the bad PR they got a few years back, but I can only speak to my own experiences. I'm just glad we still have some level of competition in this country.

    YMMV…

Fly them for a sneaky trip to Sydney over the weekend, flight in was on time and no issues, flight home was slightly delayed by about 5 minutes.

All around a pleasant experience, especially considering it was half the price Qantas and Virgin wanted.

Yep I think these deals should come with a warning that they can bump you off a flight and still sell tickets for that same flight. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's what has been posted round here previously

For everyone saying they don't want to fly Tiger, remember that Jetstar will price match. I matched a Tiger sale last year when tickets were $10 with Tiger (GC->Syd). Jetstar beat them by 10% and no booking fee.

My hubby is on the phone with Jetstar right now doing a price beat to Cairns, he heard someone in the back ground call out that they are matching the Tiger $1 sale.

I swore never to fly Tiger again, but we had the free $100 vouchers and went to Cairns with Tiger in September. I couldn't fault them, they did change our flights but that worked out better for us. Now with the 7kg on board Jetstar compared to 10kg on Tiger I will probably fly with them more.

      • dont worry tiger will follow suit soon…..

        • Actually increased theirs from 7kg to 10kg a few months ago

      • So why are you price matching with Jetscum? If you continue to go to the competition, how do you expect Tiger to stay in business over the long term?

        • I have Jetstar vouchers that need to be used otherwise I would have flown with Tiger

Always happy to book this far out for $80 return MEL-BNE. In my last 20+ flights with Tiger I have been rescheduled twice, but one time was by 5 minutes and the other time 35 minutes I think. At the price I'm paying I'm a very happy customer.

Also a reminder you can pay for tiger flights with your qantas frequent flyer mastercard (qantas cash - which has no fees) to remove the tiger booking fees, and you can add luggage later on if you work out you need it. I always just book a bare seat to begin with and then if I choose not to travel then I'm really not losing much at all.

I will add that after experiences with Jetstar (and all airlines can cancel etc but my bad experiences have generally been with Jetstar so far) I never fly without travel insurance, which cost me $200 per year for unlimited Australian travel. Any single incident would easily pay for it so it just removes the financial risk (the inconvenience is still there but that's a risk we all take). For me it's worth the time to be insured, leaving plenty of time for flights etc for no-stress travel :)

Buying a prepaid Mastercard from Woolworths for 2.95 also allows you to avoid all the extra charges.

Melbourne to Hobart return for 40, Great :D

    Tasmania… here we come ….. :) :)

Deal's great and all, but the Tiger website is annoying me. Front page in big advertising: "origin to destination - return for $1" (insert places of your choice).
It's lovely and all that if you hit "conditions apply" it tells you about the return leg details, but in my mind, when you talk about flights, return means "a return journey", and since you just click on the "return for $1" and it brings up the "book these flights" page, they should probably add some more info upfront.

  • Is it worth getting domestic travel insurance in case Tiger cancels the flight? I'm not talking about their crappy $12.95 insurance they try to upsell you, but is it worth buying from another insurer in case the flight is delayed or cancelled and we need to stay an extra night?

For 2 people on a 6 day holiday, the lowest price I've seen is $52.20 from Medibank private which includes up to $2000 in cover to pay for accomodation if your flight is delayed more than 6 hours.

    • A lot of premium credit cards offer this free when you book tickets.

      • +2

True, I booked the flight with my Mastercard debit to avoid the fees, but I'll book the hotel with my Bankwest Platinum (min spend $500 - the hotel will be just over that anyway) which should hopefully make me eligible.

          Thats true OB spirit!

  • A question. If i wanted a flight from syd to mel but to fly into syd on another airline as it's cheaper, could I just book my inbound syd flight as another earlier 1 dollar flight and be a no show? Would I then be able to access my return flight? I'm thinking they couldn't stop me

    • +2

I thought it was one ticket, therefore if you don't take the first flight, you forfeit the second flight.

      • I booked Syd Mel return, didn't show up for flight there, but caught the plane home. But this was not a not a sale like this, although it was the $24 flight sale.
