Looking for a decent MicroSD card reader

Looking for a simple microSD card USB reader. I've heard that very cheap ebay card readers can do damage to your expensive SD cards. I see a million of these card reader products on ebay (ranging down to 99 cents), but I'm not sure if I should be using one of those.

So I am hopefully looking for a branded card reader with SDHC compatibility that won't be >$20

Any recommendations?

  • Honestly I don't think there's a difference between generic and branded readers unless you go for real bottom of the barrel stuff.

I've used one of these for years without a problem.

  • I've had troubles with the cheapies. I needed a new reader recently that would handle SDHC, and got a Kingston MobileLite G3 from eBay, which does micro SD as well as normal size SD. It's supposed to be USB3, but I'm not sure it's really any faster than a USB2 reader.

I've bought a cheap $4 one from Deal Extreme 4 years ago, it's a long white one with 5 different slots and its still going strong.

I then bought a $10 USB 3.0 reader which then proceeded to fail within 3 months of use.

The saying 'you get what you pay for' doesn't always ring true with these things.
