Audioengine 5 2.0 Speaker Set for $399 + Approx. $15-39 Shipping @ PC Case Gear

150

Looks like its a blue moon or something, [or an orange dusty day lol] AUDIOENGINES ARE ON SALE!

Ok, so if some of you may know, Audioengine 5's are a killer set for starter to intermediate audiophiles. They don't go on sale often because only a few stores stock them, which last time i checked only PCCG [sold them for 499 + PP]and some vista store had it for $499 including shipping. Crazy sound, and even has its own AC plug so you can pop in your AirPort Express without troubles, hook up your mp3 player, with its AUX in etc.

so yeah a great bargain dependent on your location, metro areas/locals of PCCG will definitely get a bargain cause shipping cost will be around 15-39 bucks [unfortunately PCCG don't do pickup].

  • Great price for some fancy speakers.

    Considering getting them meself.

Note: Shipping to WA is $39.

  • Took the dive and bought a pair

  • Hard to Justify $400 for these rather average bookshelves. when for not much more you can get a pair of Tannoy Reveal ($500) or Yamaha HS50 (500-600) nearfield Studio Quality Speakers that leave these for dead as far as response and accuracy.

    • Not sure how they are average. They have some excellent features like compact size, usb charging, extra AC port etc that make them very flexible. Where do you see the Tannoy's for $500?

  • Spoke to pacific HiFi in sydney, who also list this speaker, and they said they were having a great deal of difficulty getting stock with no ETA. Did PCCG snap up a big lot?

    • Audioengine's have always been hard to get in Australia. I don't think they have a very good distribution system.

  • Sonicentropy seems to be quoting US street prices for the Tannoys. In Australia the Tannoy Reveal 5 are around $800AUD, so pretty much double the price of a A5's.

If you cant find a pair of Reveal 5A's for sub $600AU "your doing it wrong", it is a bit of a price hike but if your going to spend that kind of money you might as well buy real nearfields not just some passive crossover, single amp no balanced inputs wannabe's

      • +3

sonic - you've made the comment that these are not worth it and for slightly more you can go the tannoy's, then at least point us in the right direction instead of putting down this deal?

If you cant find a pair of Reveal 5A’s for sub $600AU “your doing it wrong”

Care to tell us the right way?

      • But you said $500 when you rubbished the audioengines. Be specific as to where you see that price.

Near field speakers are designed for accurate response vs good sounding response although I can't imagine speakers that cheap provide overly accurate response range.

Seems to be different markets and different budgets being discussed.

  • I found Yamaha HS50M Near Field Monitors mentioned above for $399.00+~$12 delivery

it looks like it is a good price as above they were referred to as the ones for $500…$600.
Audioengine 5 looks good as well but I do not really need iPod ports.

So, what do you think about Yamaha HS50M pricing at Bestmusicshop ?

I found Yamaha HS50M Near Field Monitors mentioned above for $399.00

That's the price for ONE speaker.

      • lol

      • than this post should be a great bargain. isn't it.

  • Been reading great reviews from various forums.

No hesitations when I saw this bargain.

  • for that price i would go for behringer truth powered studio monitors, they crank hard and are around the same $

    • +1

“truth powered”, that’s gotta be better than using plain old electricity, right? :p

  • I've gotta admit, high end audio's beyond me! I went speaker shopping with an audiophile friend once, wow talk about out of my depth, those guys (he & sales dude) went uber-geek on me! This stuff is like another world entirely! ;)

    • Unfortunately a lot of audiophiles can't actually tell the difference between high quality and low. Much of it is psychosomatic.

But as long as the things can go loud without obvious distortion, I'm happy.

      • Yeah, you're right, I reckon that's the key! Down low I can't tell the diff between $20 & $2000 speakers; but once you turn the Spinal Tap amp up to 11 that sure does sort the wheat from the chaff! ;)

    • Forget about the audio-gronk jargon and the hype. Just take along your favourite CD and simply choose with your ears. :)

  • i got bose c5, so pass for me,haha

    • Krix here. Supporting the local SA economy. :)

  • checked prices in local stores (Adelaide).
similar stuff costs $800 and more.
so i think it is a good deal. bought it today.

  • received mine yesterday and they sound brilliant

  • great speakers!

  • hey everyone,

been hanging out for these to come back into stock - just waiting for the local pickup option to become available (Nov 6th).

just a question for those with the speakers…the auxiliary power output plug on the back of the speaker(that you would plug an apple airport express into)…is it the US plug, or is it with the AUS plug?

    thanks…!
