    40 MB/S seems slow?

    • +2

It's close to the max speed you can get from most devices

  • Isn't Samsung Evo faster and cheaper?

    • +2

Samsung Evo is a little faster and USUALLY cheaper
but Sony is on sale right now

I got my Evo a few days ago at US$32 + shipping from Amazon

  • Its like 50 for samsung evo

  • +2

Samsung evo speed is 48. On special, it's around $35-$38. So similar pricing for the two 64gb memory cards.

The Evo is faster if you can find it on special at the moment.

  • isn't that 40MB/s I.e. 320Mbps

    • yes.. That's about the max for USB2 interface.

  • Those UHS-1 cards look pretty great value as well.

  • What do you guys think of the 128gb card for $70?

Never mind, cant be shipped to Aus

    • Very slow card, you'll be getting it only if you need the 128gb space.

  • Now why can't they do this pricing for Vita memory cards?

    • +3

because Sony is the sole manufacturer…

      • Yeah. Luckily it didn't insist using its overpriced vita memory cards on its smart phones. Otherwise I don't see how does it compete with other major brands.

  • +1 for Sony!

  • +3

Unless your device supports UHS-1, the maximum read speed you'll get will be about half the advertised speeds. My Samsung EVO gets about 18MB/s through both a card reader and an android tablet.

Kinda sucks, but they are still faster than the cheaper ones :)

    • Were you using a USB 3 card reader?

  • Would this be a good buy for Galaxy S3 expansion or would the 64GB Evo be better to wait for?

My SanDisk 32GB Class 10 is breaking down - all my 2500 photos turned to 0 bytes…
Is this Sony UHS-1 the same as a SanDisk Class 10 (ie 10MB/s write)?

    • +3

Get yourself a copy of 'freesync' - even the free version, I run a nightly backup my internal and external SD over wifi when plugged in. - Same thing as you, lost SD card contents a couple of times, v.unfortunate.

I use a Sandisk class 10 - works great, data loss due to faulty MicroSD

      • +2

Thankfully I avoided a technological disaster by having backed up my photo roll to OneDrive for the first time just a few weeks ago.

Looking back, now I realise early signs of memory card failure:
        1) Occasional I/O errors preventing file transfer when plugged into my laptop's SD slot.
        2) Slow transfer rate in laptop SD slot: 1.5MB/s max even for big files.
Everything else was fine at that point, no impending crash suspected.

        Starting from two days ago:
        3) Galaxy S3 kept checking SD card for errors
        4) Five latest pictures got corrupted.
        5) Music was dropping out ("file cannot be opened" or something) once or twice.
        6) Then over half of 3000 pics corrupted.
        7) I/O errors all the time when trying to copy to it (camera and via computer transfer).

Now the problem is deciding which to buy. Sony $37 vs Samsung Evo's occasional $38.
Evo is 48MB/s which is faster.
Is Sony reliable at memory? Amazon's huge sale looks enticing too though…help me decide?

      • hi hamwhisperer,
thanks for the tools comment, however i cant find freesync on playstore. am I doing something wrong?
        cheers

      • Do you mean freefilesync?

      • Can't find either 'freesync' or 'freefilesync' on play store. I'm looking for a good file backup over wifi app.

I didn't realise flash memory can fail. Unlucky. Does it have lifetime warranty?

      • Our Sandisk microsd cards failed too, but the failing has been on pictures only. They somehow became 0 byte in size and could not be viewed or retrieved.

        • Sounds like you have the same problem.
Do you have a Samsung phone?
Strange for just pictures to be fried to 0 bytes and everything else (music) generally working.

  • Had a bunch of stuff already in my cart. When I added the 32GB card the shipping didn't change so practically a $15 card. Don't forget to shop through Amazon Smile http://smile.amazon.com/Sony-Class-Memory-SR32UYA-TQMN/dp/B0… and support a worthy cause

  • Are Samsung Evo's made in Korea or China?

    • 32GB one I bought last month from Shopping Express was made in Korea.

    • +1

My 8GB one is made in Korea. The adapter is made in China. Seeing as it's bottom of the rung, and the 32GB as above is also made in Korea, I'd say it's safe to say they're all made in Korea.

And yet their 64gb PS Vita proprietary card is around $100 …

  • whats the difference between microSD and micro SDHC?

  • Any tricks with shipping? Mine showing $60….

  • List Price: $89.99
    Price: $38.49 + Free Shipping
    You Save: $51.50 (57%)

You need to add the $26 one from Amazon. It says Temporarily Out of Stock but will ship when they get more.

      • Huh?
I followed the deal link, and it's not as shown here. No instructions given to get this price.

  • I am getting this error for SYDNEY NSW 2000 address -

My Sandisk 32gb failed as well….It has 5 year warranty but I cannot figure out how to claim ? The Sandisk website is no help ??

Bought it from an ebay seller.

      • I wonder if they would accept an eBay receipt as proof of purchase.

        • +1

Receipt not required unless it falls near or over the date they have recorded on their systems (taken from the serial number).

They approved my request and I had no receipt and no serial number (it was worn off). They just went on the model number.

        • @Oldbugger: I did more testing and the results don't add up. With a different SD card adapter, the "dying" micro SD reads videos at 40MB/s and writes at its max of 10MB/s without any issue. Corrupted pictures are still 0 bytes.
Now that the I/O errors are isolated to a faulty SD adapter (which came with the card), could it be the Samsung phone going rogue and being the real culprit, deleting things and the SD not being corrupted?

this isnt cheap, you can get 90mb/s cards on ebay for the same price.

    • Those 90MB/s Lexar ones seem to be hovering around $US45.
