It's only half way or so through term 4 and back to school is already on. Wow, these back to school deals/sales are like Christmas ones, getting earlier and earlier every year.

this is back to school 2016!!!

  • +2

excellent time for price matching, last time i did the school list price match was for the Asus T100, basically you pick the lowest price you can find and then get an extra 20% off from OW!

  • I am right to believe that a school item last time they did this was an iPad? Doesn't look like its in that list though on their website.

  • I thought price matching/beating wasn't a deal

    • +3

Maybe the 15% extra could count?

    • it's not - this limited-time-only school-list policy is :)

  • +1

    A TAB S 10.5 hehe

    • Is TAB S on any schools list? I would love to buy one if it is. Thanks

  • good time to buy an ipad air 2

What is the price of an ipad air 2 on the schools' booklists? I'm sure OW will check those prices before hand and make sure they are cheaper.

    • Unless I'm not in the right place I can't find it there

    • +2

      booklist price irrelevant…

school requirements or booklist that includes ipad + cheaper price at another retailer => 20% price beat :)

      (deal updated)

  • doubting ipad or other electronic devices in the ow's back to school list

    • Wrong. As others have mentioned, I got the Asus T100 for $403 through this deal in January this year. Price beat Myer's post-new-year clearance, and the device was eligible for 10% off school-list officeworks price beat.

      • +1

Get officeworks to beat this Myer price by 20% for the T100 http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/26307/image.jpg

Hi, just curious as to how this deal works; how did you get officeworks to recognise the ASUS T100 as a school-list item?
i.e. is the 20% price match only on 'school-list' items and therefore you had to show office works that the ASUS T100 was specifically on some school's school-list
or, is the 20% storewide/ on all electronics assuming that all schools have their own personal device policies etc?

        • When the T100 was bought, I didn't have to show them a current booklist. What was more interesting, however, was that the Officeworks sales person automatically put it through as education price-beat guarantee.

Have a look at the this thread - it may give some more clarity to how it works on OW's systems.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/130839

  • what will officeworks need to do the pricematch on iPads? do they themselves need to deem it a school list item?

  • Is there by chance an iPod on the list :P

    • +3

      people still buy ipods?

      • +2

More wanting it for the gym or to leave connected in the car rather than killing the iPhone battery.

        • +2

          a true ozbargainer buys a $40 android/windows phone instead :P

        • @mr kindface:
Except the app I use to track my workouts isn't available in the windows apps store.

  • does anyone have a list of all things on the back to school list

  • Spoke to someone at a store and the technicality is the product has to be advertised at a lower price than OW. They will probably monitor all sales and lower their prices accordingly.

Also, the guy seems to be adamant that it does not include tech products, although most of you seem to have proven this is wrong.

  • Since ipads are online only the only way to get the price match is over the phone. At the best of times they can be reluctant to even give the 5% price match. I can't really see them giving 20% off over the phone without proof, but certainly worth a try if you need an ipad.

    • iPads are not online only. Most stores have them now.

      • It would be good if they updated their website then. All ipad air 2 64GB+ are showing online only.

        • Ah, sorry - what I should have said is base model should be in all stores. The higher end ones will be online only. In my store we have 16 and 32gb models.

      • Hey rep, do they now sell iPhone in store as well?

  • +6

Good deal if it includes technology.

    On a side note.:

"Parents will be expected to purchase an iPad for their son or daughter. "

Wow, as someone who has graduated from high school only two years ago all I want to say is what a stupid school. Completely unnecessary and you don't even get a complete OS. I hope they're getting paid by Apple and that some of it is being used to reduce fees etc.

    • +2

Yeah I was surprised too with how schools are trying to keep up with the tech age introducing mandatory iPads for learning
I mean, check out Melb High School, they even have an app list (http://media.wix.com/ugd/c76c88_3178e960ae8c404e811ebb29c7f1…) which include paid apps !

      • Honour the work.

Strong, like its pillars, the School stands behind us,
Standing for duty, and standing for right.

School days are passing, and we must away.

  • Whilst I have no interest in Apple products, I note that a number of schools prescribe the purchase of Macbook Pro (see https://www.google.com.au/#q=macbook+site:edu.au ) which should bring the price of the entry level Macbook Pro below $1k.

  • You can also find "Portable Hard Dive USB3.0 1TB" on a school booklist
    E.g. http://www.wesley.wa.edu.au/upload/pages/book-lists/wesley-c… ; note older edition 2013
So definitely curious if and how the deal works with technology !

  • +7

Someone please confirm if they were able to get an iPad at 20% off. I'm interested in getting one!

    • same here

    • I tried to price match at VIC - QV Officeworks and they could only do 5% with the iPad.

      • I tried at Vic, Highett and was only able to get 5%.

        • did you show them a school book/requirements list?

        • +1

5% off what price? If it's a lower price, could you link it here please :)

        • I asked at Vic, Keysborough and they have no idea about the deal. The only thing I can do is use the price match guarantee which takes 5% off.

  • +1

Could also go for a really shiny calculator
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/ti-nspire-cas…
Especially since a calculator is featured on the sale page- they have no way of exluding it

  • Not many basic low end laptops available by the looks of it.

  • DSE has specials on some iPads at the moment.

  • +10

iPads and iPhones are only available online and specific stores, the larger stores like sydney Clarence street or in Ryde.

Since im not to familiar with this promotion as it has only been updated on our systems last week, I will post back when I get more information.

  • So, we have to find a school list that has an iPad at a lower price…

    • Not necessarily. School list pricing is irrelevant, as you are price matching against another store.

      • That's not what I was told.

Find an identical stocked item on a quoted school list at a lower price and we'll beat it by 20%.

I re-read that as the lower price is on the school list.

        • school lists don't have prices unless given by a supplier such as campion books :)

        • I should've said that Haileybury just state to buy from a local retailer. I'll try at a different store tomorrow. I highly doubt my chances.

  • Also the catalog says 10% discount, not 20%. Good luck!

    • Link to catalogue.

      • in-store has display ads for 20% off which is how i discovered this promo :)

        • They may have been changed, the digital display ads at the checkout of the store I went to said 10%. If the website says 20% tomorrow I'll try my luck. Hopefully by then someone else has received the 20% discount and has posted a receipt.

  • As for the schools list, It is pretty much all technology and stationary items that are included. as long as you have a real schools list from the school, it should be fine, I could not find any exclusions.

    • Does it have to be in stock to price match iPad?
Because most stores in my area don't have stock.

    • Problem is that in the example tonester has used above, the iPad isnt on the actual Campion booklist. Is it only the items on the physical school book lists provided by Campion Books, etc?

    • +2

I found that through the Mt. Eliza portal (accessible by public) which brings you to the JB Hi-Fi education website (accessible only through the Mt. Eliza provided link), that they are selling the iPad Air 2 64GB Wi-Fi only for around $685. If I could bring this in to the store, would i be able to get them to price beat that by 20%? I would argue that it's a booklist, given it's required by the school to own one…it's just not in a physical list.

      • I agree, but I'm just saying OW could be difficult about this and say it has to be on an official booklist ie like on a Campion Books booklist. Their promotion is poorly worded, and different staff will interpret the T&Cs differently.

      • i'd like ta know as well.

        Bearinator

  • I called to see if I could get one through the phone and the lady I spoke to said that I needed a list which has to be verified in store. Does anyone have a valid list with the iPad Air on it?

I also noted the price dropped to $599 (matched to thegoodguys promo). Would the apple education price work instead ($595)?

  • I just called up QV officeworks to ask, and the guy said they could only beat it by 5%. When i asked him what about the schools list price beat by 20% he said he had no idea what i was talking about. I clarified that officeworks currently have a 20% price beat on school list items in store till the end of Jan 2015, he simply said "nup. dono bout that". He was quite adamant that there was no such thing, and was a little rude as well to be honest. :\

    • Yep was at VIC Keysborough, and the manager said she had not idea. Can only use the 5% price match guarantee.

Damn was so stoked about this deal :(

      • +1

Did you show them this deal on their website?

        • Haha no I didnt. Didnt notice the parent price guarantee. Unfortunately this store doesn't stock ipads so Ill probably go elsewhere.

A few people are saying that it doesnt have to be on the school list but on the website it has to be on a school list for the 20% to be applicable.

I want to get the Iphone 6 but I doubt it would be on any school list

  • +1

Okay update: I called chadstone who said that if i can find it on a booklist, he would beat it by only 5%, iPads not included. When i told him i called up head office to confirm that 20% off the iPad air 2 was included, he said "oh that's fine. If you can provide authorisation from head office to take 20% off the iPad from the booklist price, i'll be happy to do that". Obviously, this will never happen because then they'll argue that the cheaper price i found isn't on a "booklist", and thus doesn't warrant the 20% off. It's quite sneaky, but i don't think it's going to happen unfortunately, they'll make a loss on it otherwise i think!

  • Fitzroy Officeworks require the student to be in the store with their school photo ID.

    • +4

Next they will be asking for a signed statutory declaration from the school stating the child goes to the said school and requires an iPad.

      • Sounds about right.

      • +1

By the time you obtain the signed declaration, OW would've adjusted the price so you can't price beat anymore.

  • if anyone would be able to provide a school list with an iPad on it (I'm looking for a 128 GB iPad Mini) it would be pretty cool.

    Bearinator

  • You will probably find that the schools will list the iPads at the RRP which will (usually) be cheaper at Officeworks anyway.

  • Can any of the reps/employees tell me which stores will support this for technology products? I have called three stores already and they all said no to anything tech related.

    • The item has to be on a genuine school booklist with a price listed.

  • What if a school lists any laptops above certain specs without any prices. Could we use that booklist to get 20% off against the price from another retailer?

  • unfortunately it seems that soon after i posted this deal they added a new condition making cheap ipads unlikely :(

Offer is only applicable on prices that appear on valid 2015 school book lists for the quantity listed.

  • thanks. nearly every item was cheaper on the original school list, so about $20 savings all up.

    No iPad though!

  • I have the Macbook Air 13" 256gb on my sons school book list.

Is this going to be straight forward to get from Officeworks?
