Need Suggestions on New Laptop

So Im currently searching for a new laptop but have no idea what to choose.

Here is a list of things im looking for;

Lightweight
Thin
Good battery life
Doesn't get too hot

As for performance, it would mainly be used for watching videos and surfing the web. Nothing too powerful as I can use my desktop for all that.

Price range <$800

Thanks for any help

Not strictly a laptop, but Surface Pro 2 would be a good option.

if you can spend an extra $150 or so, defiantly get a macbook air with dickies 14% off today! You'll thank yourself later ;)

  • Do you need a laptop, or will a tablet do? If you already have a desktop and wi-fi, I'd be thinking about a tablet with a bluetooth keyboard. Great for web-surfing or watching movies anywhere.

If your needs stretch to a bit of writing, you might also think about a Windows 8.1 hybrid laptop/tablet like the Asus Transformer Book T100, which is essentially an iPad-sized tablet that plugs into a keyboard. It comes with Office Home & Student for $500 (http://goo.gl/CdCdxI). If you want, it will also work perfectly well with an HDMI connection to a bigger 1920x1080 screen and a USB connection to a full-sized keyboard (http://goo.gl/YwYszj). Battery life is said to stretch to 11 hours. The reviews are very enthusiastic, and I'm about to buy one of these for my daughter.

Acer is bringing out a product called the Switch 10 which includes a hard disk and feels very solid. But it costs more than the ASUS and I have greater faith in ASUS build quality.

  • Be comfortable with the screen size. I've gone from a 15.6" to a 13.3" (Clevo W230SS). I was assured by so many that 13" isn't too small.

But it is- just can't be comfortable using it. I'm bending my neck and sitting awkardly to see the screen. So make sure you choose a size you're comfortable with

    • Any heating issues at all with the W230SS?

ipad air 2? or 14% off mac

  • Macbook Air. It's the best generalist laptop in that price range. It is carved from solid metal, has great battery life, performance, trackpad and keyboard. Screen is not awesome. $120 extra if you want Windows.

Also consider the Surface Pro; try both out in the shop to see what form factor you prefer.

Another good value option is to buy a secondhand windows business laptop. Because windows laptops have terrible resale value, you can get a bargain if you are patient.
