Does It Bother You That The Hot Topics/Discussions Have Nothing to Do with Bargains???

Hi All,

I've noticed the hot topics listed at the bottom of all bargains in the main page seems to be related to people who are ranting about personal dilemmas, stuck in life situations, or asking for help on topics not related to getting a bargain. While I myself to get the attention of these particular topics, as they always seem to work me up, I start to wonder why they are of any relevance to this site.
eg. Discussions:

  • Help me! I am stuck at (enter location here)
  • I can seem to complete (enter non bargain/non business related item here)
  • I Hate (enter sibling here)

Like i said, they get my attention, but they just seem to irrelevant to this site that should be discussing about bargains. Its is now just making me feel like this is a place for psychological advice.
Am I wrong in my way of thinking?

    This site is started as bargain finder (Scotty and Neil can correct me here if i am wrong) and it still preserves its originality but lately it becomes more of community and helping out each other. So if you don't want to reply/answer or if you find topic irrelevant, you can ignore it. and that what everyone does.

    yeah but because of those posts sometimes the forum become alive and more attractive compare with other boring quiet bargain forums (we are not the only one in australia!).
    as long they are not excessive, rude, create a fight, etc. i think still ok.
    we have mod to clean up and monitor anyway :)

    one day you might get some help from those "unrelated deal bargain conversations"

    Hot discussions are measured from the number of comments they are getting. OzBargain is still focusing on bargains, however we are a community. For some people this might be one of few Internet communities that they feel they are belonging to and where they can ask questions.

    Back to Hot Discussion Topics at the bottom of the home page. Currently,

    Except maybe the 3rd one, all seems to be relevant to bargains & deals.

      I think even the 3rd insomnia is related, I never want to go to sleep in case I miss a bargain;) we have already discussed addiction also.

      Exactly what I thought. If you don't want to see them, don't look.

      Although the primary purpose of the site it to find/post deals/bargains etc, I think it's great that there are so many other thread categories available. The more people show interest in the site and return here, can only increase the number of deals.

    I think a lot of the seemingly unrelated topics often come back to money. For example, one of the biggest "help, I'm stuck…" topics had a huge deal to do with money…not wanting to spend too much to get out of the situation.

    I ask questions here that I want answered by practical people who respect the value of money. I try to save all the other stuff for other communities that I'm part of. But sometimes the question might not be directly about saving money.

    Love this site - have learnt lots & saved on many bargains. Unfortunately there are some contributors who like to discuss,discuss,discuss certain posts & be extremely rude to those of us who don't agree with their views. Also certain forums go away from their originality because of all the interactive views leading to different subjects.

    I don't find it annoying, if the hot topics make you wiser and more savvy in some way, you've scored a bargain! But yes, it's becoming some what of a mini whirlpool forum. However, there are only so many bargains to be had in a 24 hr day, so the hot topics fill the void.

    As I mentioned, I didnt say i detested non-bargain related topics. I was more on thinking what other users thought, as I noticed a shift in the hot discussions in the last year.
    For anyone thinking it will be ironic if this became a hot topic too. I would be surprised as this isnt hot topic material.
    Also, for the ppl who think I'm adding a non-bargain topic, this is in the site discussion section of the forum which is to provide feedback of the site, so i think my question is very relevant.
