Car Sales - Perth Hail Storm

We signed up for a new car last week and we are now hearing there is some hail damage from the weekends hail storm (we haven't picked it up yet). I think last time Perth had a decent hail storm there were some pretty significant discounts on cars. Anyone know anything more or what happened in the last hail storm?

  • If you are concerned then do no accept the car.

  • If the damage is minimal probably just ask for a significant discount and get it repaired. Just wondering how it all worked last time this happened

  • It still makes me smile whenever I see a car around town that looks like a golf ball.
The legacy of the 'Great Storm of Perth" as I hear it called…

  • Check with your insurance company. A lot of insurers won't insure your hail damaged car, or won't cover you for future body damage as 'pre-existing damage'.
It's one more channel for them to get away without paying you out. Hail damage is also grounds for the car being declared written off or repairable written off.

You will also have trouble selling the car or trade it in future.

I wouldn't buy the car till the dealer can sign a stamped paper which confirms that the car does not have any hail damage.

When we were looking for our new car purchase early this year, couple of dealers were pulling us in with really good prices, then after couple of days call us back with, "Oh now your car has minor hail damage, but don't worry everything is fine". Only to find out they were selling cars with existing hail damage from the start.

Imo, the discounts dealers offer for the hail damage cars isn't worth the trouble you will face in the long run.
