Hi,
Ca anyone shed any light on how the Hawaii tax is calculated?
Im told that General tax is just under 5% but when looking at hotels, they are all charging 14% tax?
I cant figure out what the difference is?
Any suggestions?

Many popular tourist destinations have an accommodation tax - I am currently looking for accommodation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the lodging tax there is 11%. I believe that San Francisco's is even higher. On top of that, many places also charge a resort fee - in Las Vegas this seems to be $25 USD or thereabouts (per night).
I've had inconsistent results using search engines - some include the tax into their rate quoted (apparently - I'm not going to guarantee that hotels won't try to charge it again). However it appears that the resort fee (if applicable is NEVER included in fees and charges - that is something that is paid on top of your accommodation costs and directly to the Hotel.)

Looks like the transient accommodation tax (room tax) of 9.25% is added on top.
