Dick has no excuse. They sent email to stores asking not to honour the order. Why didn't they email us not to go pick up the order. If they sent email the same time to me, I wouldn't have gone to the store. Wasting me an hour of time.

    • Which is why I've sent both emails to Dicky and ACCC to see what their thoughts on this. Sounds very unethical to me that I've received both email and text message confirmation to pick up my order and only to be told at the counter they decided not to honour my deal. Up to now, I have yet to receive any apologies on the cancellation of my order yet. I'm going to pursue this to question their customer service ethics.

      • +1

I don't think the ACCC has a section that deals with ethics ;-) But they probably have a bin for these sort of complaints from disgruntled OzBargainers.

Interesting view of ethics, considering we were trying to take advantage of an obvious pricing error, which you suspected 62 minutes into the deal! (Hope you sent that link to the ACCC.)

The sale price was listed by DS at the time as $39.98 (a $20 price reduction according to Dick) and we expected DS to supply at $9.98, or effectively $4.98 with a half price Gift Card?

We wanted to take financial advantage of the merchant due to a problem in their online system. Can't see how we are acting so ethically, as to point the finger at DS for acting unethically.

But 20 hours after missing out, still crying it's unethical, "I was misled", and wanting an apology… it's normal to be disappointed in missing a deal. There are always lots more deals.

        • +1

Let me reiterate, as it stands at the moment, I have evidence of confirmation of email and text messages and they still have my money. No email cancellation or whatsoever in writing other than being denied at the counter verbally. Thanks for your comments but I'm still interested to pursue this matter.

        • @cloudie9:
Of course pursue your complaint. Dick needs to change. Good luck. Report back with the outcome.

But as I said before, ACCC is not set up to deal with minor communication issues with a trader or other's conspiracy theory of deliberate pricing errors, especially where DS seem to be willing to refund. The issues seem due to incompetence & poor systems. There isn't a complaints body for that. And something tells me DS aren't listening.

Under a previous DSE management, I rang their head office (from a store), outlined problems with their stock management system, they listened, promised to act (which they did), and gave me a nice payment. A manager later told me someone was sacked based on my complaint. Those were the days at DSE. I believe in actually bringing about changes, not just complaining.

        • @brucefromaustralia:
By the way, that complaint I made was similar to yours… turned up to store that reported stock availability. Turned out store manager had not done a stock check on some items in years. A total waste of time.

I had travelled a long way to the store. So I know the frustration.

But I directed my complaint to the appropriate person (senior management at head office - who could do something, rather than a hopeless store manager or an overworked & under funded body), calmly explained the problem in a language they would understand - as an issue affecting their sales, profits, and reputation. I recommended changes based on my knowledge of their systems, and suggested a suitable compensation for my time and expertise in assisting their business.

If feedback is approached properly, it is valuable for a business & you should be paid/compensated for your advice. Seeing an improvement in a business helped by my advice is even better.

    • Ordered and received the "order confirmation" email ~1am.
    • Received cancellation email ~3pm.
    • Received "ready for collection" email and SMS ~ noon the next day.
    • Picked up with no problems (Cannon Hill, QLD) in the after noon!
    • +2

You were lucky. Another + vote for the deal. viki8702 was refused at Cannon Hill, so should retry.

      • +1

hahaah, what?? i will go tomorrow morning and try my luck :)

        • +1

If that fails, pop in to Carindale DS & chat with the woman there (used to be at Cannon Hill so should have some influence) - she challenged online department & phoned me to say to pick up after earlier cancellation.

        • @brucefromaustralia: I'm just outside ca non hill at the moment no dice.

  • Hmmm I brought online and paid $4.95 shipping..
Still no email/SMS to suggest its cancelled.
Am I the only one waiting?

My order on DSE's website just shows this:
    Order #XXXXXXXX - Awaiting Fulfillment

    • +1

no you're not the only one waiting, my status is the same as yours too.

    • Same here, I'll wait it out for a while.

      • Spoke to soon got the cancellation and refund email

        • I have a tracking number, but it hasn't been picked up by star track. No cancellation email.

Joy. Will have to go through DSE customer support :(

        • @cooleagles: Save your time. Dispute or chargeback - costs them more!

  • +1

I went in store to pick up after receiving my sms, it was late Saturday afternoon, the chick said they were not meant to process the order but they did it anyway, lucky me. :)

I had no issues with this particular DSE store as they have fulfilled all my orders so far.

  • Well I'm happy:

    Ordered around 11pm Friday night
Ready to collect email and SMS 9:30 Sat morning.
    Cancellation email 3:30 Sat arvo.
Just got back from the Dubbo store where they had them behind the counter and let me collect!
They even told me they had gotten an email from Head Office saying not to fulfill any more and that I was lucky.

    Thank you country stores!

    • +1

Oh, and they are going to let me swap my unopened MacMini from last weeks 24% deal for the new one too.
Thanks Dick Smith - I think I've cost you some money in the last week…

      • With the prices they charge for other things, I'm sure some non-Ozbargainer has made up for the loss :)

  • 18/10 1:45am ordered
18/10 10:00am order is now ready for collection
18/10 3:00pm due to promotional pricing error, unable to fulfil order
20/10 11am successfully picked up order from Canberra Centre Dick Smith

NO hassle at all when collecting. Showed them the email I received and they went outback to get the USB.

    • +1

How did you collect? What did you present at the counter? and how did you know that it is available for pickup?

      • +1

Received an email on 18/10 saying order is now ready for collection. I went to the counter and showed them the email.

The cancellation email didn't even have my order number on it, so it is just a generic email sent to everyone who bought this USB

        • +1

ow..poor me,,didn't even received an email for ready for collection advice. =(

  • +2

Successfully clicked and collected from Mermaid Waters

10 minutes ago. No questions asked, no trouble. They even had a display at the counter for the 8GB 2.0 version for $9.98 hahah.

  • Did anyone manage to get more than one and would like to sell their spare for a bit more than they got it for?

    • Honestly, given the pretty mediocre read/write speeds reported by Digitalaxon, any additional money you spend might be better invested in a different (faster) device…just my $0.02.

      • Any particular one you would recommend? I just left my USB on a plane and they can't find it so I do need to buy one. =(

        • Don't take too much notice of people often saying you can get better/faster/bigger for a bit more. Just get what suits your needs and will do the job for you. If your happy to put a little time to research first, you could also get a Bargain.
Most USB 3 drives will give you decent performance, but if you have some extra $, have a look at the SanDisk Extreme range.

        • @ozhunter68:

Most USB 3 drives will give you decent performance

Unfortunately, that's not the case…most will essentially give you USB 2.0 write speeds IME, as is the case here.

Sorry kawinuyo, I wish I could help, I'm on the lookout for one myself…

  • I ordered one for delivery late Friday night and I have now received the generic email at 11:33am this morning.

    Dear Valued Customer,
We are writing to advise that due to a promotional pricing error with the Dick Smith website, we are unable to fulfil your order.
etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

It will be interesting to see how long the refund to PayPal takes - they are pretty hopeless to only 'anticipate' by Friday!

  • Just went and picked mine up from Bendigo VIC. No problems.
Guy basically said you are getting a full refund for it, but i can sell you one here now for $9.95.
Bought 1 and will receive a refund for the original purchase in the next week.

  • +3

Guy at Southland DSE was very "elaborate" with his reasons as to why it cannot be had.
    He reckons:
1/ they were a different stock number from the "normal" 32GB Emtec drives due to a system glitch
2/ everybodies' orders will be wiped from the store systems and must be refunded after today.
Nice guy but he seemed to be just generally bullshitting - got faster and more high pitched towards the end. (don't think he was convincing himself)

  • Well, received the pricing error email yesterday. Received a confirmation email to pickup this morning. will see if it works…

  • Anybody successfully pick up from Southland?

  • +2

To anyone who put in an order, has received whatever mail/sms or calls, I would try picking up your order if it's convenient and you have spare time. You never know till you go, depending on store and staff. I gave up on this on Sunday after reading many unsuccessful attempts on here. Then today many reported picking them up with no trouble. As I was heading over the area, thought I try as I have nothing to lose. Absolutely no trouble at all, picked up my order of 2. Luck of the Draw.
Sorry for people who missed out. Thanks for all peoples comments which helps me and others.
For people who still have not tried to pick up and not sure, Give it a Go.

  • I got my refund today which was surprising!!!

  • +4

I rode my bike all the way to bloody Cannon Hill, no email but the store told me that the order was canceled. I tried calling DSE but their number kept hanging up on me. Then when I went outside someone had spiked the tyre on my bike and I had to walk it all the way back into town.

Goddammit I hate Dick Smith so bad right now.

    • Damn. That was very unlucky. Sounds like Cannon Hill is a lot rougher than my area at Carindale. Decided not to '+' that sad tale :-(

Picked mine up at Carindale after manager (recently moved from Cannon Hill) complained to DS online - overturning cancellation.

Overheard customer asking for old style Nokia chargers, so I sold her 2 plug packs (scrounged) & 2 car chargers (new in packet, bought from same DS store on clearance for 21c each ages ago) from my collection.

So a cheap USB3 flash & $20 cash from sale, for $4.98 outlay (used half price Gift Card) + 42c for products sold. Somehow I like DS now :-)

    • You need to squeeze these http://www.dicksmith.com.au/babies-kids/dick-smith-high-boun… a la stress balls

  • Picked up successfully just before closing this afternoon at Cairns Central. :)

  • I never received any update (email or SMS) other than the initial Order Acknowledgement (that I received a few minutes after I ordered). Today I checked my account and the status of the order is "Complete".

What does that even mean? I can't believe Dick Smith.

    • I have the same thing?

    • I think it means if you check emails from DSE you will find one from a few days ago that says you won't be getting this item.

I checked my order today and had the same completed message and low and behold there is a new email from a couple of days ago that has appeared in my inbox saying
"You know that USB 3.0 Flash you purchased…..SIKE!! - love DSE"

      • And if I haven't received one in my inbox saying
"You know that USB 3.0 Flash you purchased…..SIKE!! - love DSE"

No Paypal return payments either, may have to just print out the completed order and take it into my local.

        • You have nothing to lose but your time.

      • I didn't receive any other email from DSE (checked inbox, spam, trash, etc).

  • I have got a refund from PayPal this morning which was a nice surprise! Now I just have to wait for PayPal to remove the all too common 'Temporary Hold' on it.
As to a previous comment about the $2 delivery that was supposedly available on Friday - I actually emailed a complaint about it when I ordered and actually received a reply today even though my order had been cancelled.

    Hi!
Thank you for taking the time to contact Dick Smith Online
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for all inconveniences caused.
However the Express national delivery starts from as little as $4.95. Add multiple small or standard sized items to your cart and only pay the one low fee.
If you have any further inquiries please do not hesitate to contact us.

As you can see it was a rather pointless reply!

  • still waiting for refund, anyone paid with gift card and has got refund yet?

    • I paid with GC. Received an invoice, but have something awaiting collection at the post office.

      • Yes, they were waiting at the post office. They gave a bonus $5.

  • Got my Click and Collect ready email last night and picked up from Innaloo [WA] today with no problems :)
