    • +1

Didn't get an email. Just went in and picked it up

  • +1

Price is back at 39.95. It WAS a pricing error. Good work for those that managed to get an order through.

  • +1

will they cancel the uncollected orders? i havent received notification.

    • +1

The system may have wrong stock levels, esp. after Staff got in before allocating yours.

  • +3

My local store at Booval, QLD has been instructed by head office not to fulfill the orders. They suspect customers will receive an email or a phone call.

  • "Your Dick Smith Click & Collect Order … is ready for collection" Nice!

    • Picked my 2 up this afternoon, feeling lucky.

  • Just picked mine at point cook vic store

    Thanks OP

  • +4

This is BS. My local store called today and say they can't fulfil the order, even though i ordered and site said it was in stock.
Really, this is the second time DS did this to me.
Has anyone talked to ACCC for breaching Australian consumer laws?

    • did they breach the T&C you agreed to?

  • +1

Just collected mine in Melbourne. 32GB.
    Thanks MM! :-)

  • +6

Well, got the Your Dick Smith Click & Collect Order ########### is now ready for collection,

AND THEN phone call from the store saying an email from Head Office is that no orders can be given to the customer.

"Can I talk to the Manager please, he will ring you back….OK….they call back and all is good we have to honor the order"

I am sure there will be many iterations of this all day, some will get them and some won't!

    • +1

If you get an SMS saying it's ready to collect i think they have to give it to you. I've picked mine up allready.

    • My morning after buying 3 with PayPal last night from Logan Central:
      1) get phone call from the store saying it was an error and I'd get a refund
      2) 15 mins later get an email saying my order was ready to collect
      3) I called the store saying I had the email and asking whether I could now go tIo collect. They said no, refund was still going to happen. I politely let them know that I was very upset with Dick Smith head office, but understood the store had to do what they had to do.
      4) 20 mins after my call the store called me and told me head office had told them to honor all orders.
      5) picked up my order without any problem. When I was there I noticed 5-6 other orders already packed and ready to go

  • +1

So it seems any one who received one from click and collect were not meant to have it.

    • Will be interesting to see what happens with online orders for home delivery

      • +3

They'll get cancelled. As far as i know Startrack Express doesn't do pickups from Dick Smith on the weekend so the orders wouldn't have got sent off until monday any way. Online orders have got no chance.

  • +1

    "Missed it by that much"

Your Click & Collect Order is now ready for collection 8:48amQld

Then call an hour later not to collect as all orders have been cancelled due to pricing error. Pity I slept in.

Placed the order knowing there was a very high probability of cancellation. Staff call was pleasant & apologetic, just informing me not to come in unnecessarily. I'm not bothered. Was a bit of a laugh.

If you collected before cancellation went through - lucky you ;-)

  • Hi Guys, first time poster - I bought 2 and picked click on collect from a store with known availability, as I was in store at time. Payment successful - paypal receipt, 15 mins later another email confirming available to pick up. Start walking back to store, and get phone call to say:

    Please read my nightmare below…

    To whom it may concern

I have received this email, only to be told very rudely by the store staff (by phone) that its wasn't available and that it wasn't going to be.

This again is typical of the bait and switch style of your promotions.

When I pointed out that this was very concerning for me to buy something I know was in stock, and on shelf. Visible to my eyes only 15mins earlier ( i live close by).

When I pointed out I thought this was illegal, I was threatened with the cancellation of my order, due to the whim of the salesman (as per terms & cond, he states.) but then gets frustrated and cancels the order anyway, without my authority.

This is sick and saddening service from a previously well loved brand..

Dick Smith make this right! or I will post my dissatisfaction on all of the places I can find. And find a new staff member at The Pines - QLD Dick Smith Shop, if I wasn't so shocked by the confrontational manner of the exchange, I would have asked the representatives name.

I am so tired of the fall of this once great brand. And this service, terrible.. Be warned, even bricks & mortar stores have crap service, no wonder everyone buys online now. Good one Dick Smith for doing yourself out of a repeat customer!

    • +6

You do know that it's in the terms and conditions that they can cancel an order at any time due to a pricing error?. Title of the goods aren't yours until it's handed over to you which did not take place.

      • +15

Always keep in mind that dealing with Dick can leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.

        • +2

I'll take your word for that.

  • +4

Any one could see from the get go that this was a pricing error. Any one who ordered should have expected the high probability of an order cancellation.

  • +2

I got an email saying mine has been shipped and have received a tracking number

    • +2

Just means that your order was placed into a parcel and the electronic shipping information was lodged to Startrack Express. It doesn't mean that the parcel has handed over to Startrack Express just means that it's out the back of Dick Smith warehouse or store some where in a loading dock area awaiting pickup which shouldn't happen until monday. Dick Smith could even still recall the parcel from the loading dock. Or you might just get lucky.

  • I have received SMS and email confirming ready for collection. However the store is in a busy mall 30 minutes drive? Is it worth going there? I have not received email or call yet regarding pricing error.

    • +1

Call and confirm. Keep in mind they have a sale and it may take them another 30 minutes before they can even serve you. I find some stores are very lightly staffed.

    • +2

Yes, don't call just go. I picked up my one @11am after the same sms.

      • +1

Some manager from the store hasn't been reading the email from head office. Too bad if the local store manager at the store a person goes to has actually been reading his/her emails.

        • +1

You are always going to get mixed results with dick stores.

        • +1

          @luke73:

Depends how slack the store manager has been whether has actually been reading email or not.

      • +2

Bound to be cancelled when picking up order. Still has to be processed at counter, at which time computer will likely show order cancelled by now, like with my order.

        • +1

I would be polite but explain that I had just driven a fair distance & never had a problem before with the many times I have used click & collect.

        • +1

          @luke73:
I know the store manager who rang. Polite was no match for computer that said NO :-(

        • +2

          @brucefromaustralia:

          luke73 is lucky that's all.

        • +2

          @hollykryten:
          Lucky timing, Lucky Luke ;-)

        • +1

          @brucefromaustralia:

Yes so it seems that knowing the store manager makes no difference because the computer system says no to allowing the order.

        • +1

          @hollykryten:
Knowing the manager has its advantages - got a call to say she had got up the online department & my order is again ready for collection :-)

She said she has lost a lot of sleep over so many errors with DS new order system. But she suggested coming in quick to see her, before any new change to my order occurs!

    • +2

Thanks for all the replies guys, decided not to go. Not worth my time if the computer will reject the order.

Already fuming being shafted around on the Casio gShock deal. Just not worth it.

      • +2

Well being polite to the manager, but a little disappointed did work for me. (I don't think getting angry as some might will achieve the same result.) But probably not worth the effort for this deal.

  • +1

Went in to pick my order up after getting the email to do so, the guy checked on it then said we've got instructions not to hand them over. I said would have been nice to be notified so i didn't make a special trip out to this dump of a shopping centre - no answer to that. Ok I said just do a refund then, then he said something about there's been no instructions issued about refunds.

    • +1

DS cancellation call was vague about refunds. But store is just collection point. Refund of online orders is handled by online section of DS, in same method as payment.

    • +3

man, so you paid for it and make a trip to the store for nothing. What kind of business is this?
I already paid and now waiting for the confirmation email….

  • I got the SMS to pick it up at around 9:30am from Eastlands (VIC). Picked it up 10mins later no fuss at all. As mentioned by previous posts, YMMV.

    • I should assume all DS store managers should have read the email that went out by now. If not the computer system at the checkout should be advising not to allow the order.

      • +2

Maybe they don't know which email to read. One moment orders are to be cancelled. Next moment orders are to be honoured. Someone at DS should be accountable.

        • For what i've seen some store managers have been ignoring and over riding the email and the computer system. For what i can see the head office has never told any of the store managers to honour.

And for what i've seen going by this thread there's only been one email which is to cancel the orders. Those store managers are simply defying head office.

    • Same here. Got email 9.50, wasn't going to pick up straight away, then decided better go straight away around 12.30 pm. No problems at all (even though I could see they had them behind the counter marked at $39.95).

  • +4

After email & sms to collect, received a polite call that order was cancelled.

I was ok with that. I only ordered for the fun of it, not really wanting the product bought for $5 with 1/2 price gift card.

Just received call again from manager - she had got up the online department & my order is again ready for collection :-) (But be quick before next change)

I was enjoying a lazy morning. Now I have to collect it, to keep in good with the manager - such sacrifice :-)

      • +2

I prefer not to answer that online. She has recently transferred from another store I visited once & straight away remembered me when I walked into my local DS. I've met her twice as a customer, now she has done me a favour…

        • +1

Wonder if there's a reason for the transfer. Does this store manager make it a habit of defying direct instructions by head office. Hope she doesn't end up sacked and replaced by a store manager who obeys head office instructions.

        • @hollykryten:
Transferred to larger store in a Westfield from a small shopping center, so guess it was a promotion. Maybe it's her exceptional people skills ;-) She's happy.

        • @hollykryten:
          Maybe she likes Bruce

        • @mmd:
DS and I have a long term relationship. And like all relationships, I sometimes don't feel the love.

My local DS manager is a sweetie, tracking down stock for customers in her own time. She had quite a few of these devices to be collected this afternoon. That's why she got up the online section - to look after her customers (not just me).

Kudos to DS for a great manager :-)

  • +4

Thanks MM, picked up my USB stick this morning, didn't get a confirmation email but the store had the order ready and waiting. For those who have had their order cancelled, I'm sorry. I've learnt from the Ezibuys shenanigans not to expect anything but this was a nice surprise. Thanks again MM.

    • +2

I got all 4 or my orders shipped from that Ezibuy shenanigans. Miracles can happen especially when you order very early.

Looks like those who ordered early from Dick Smith and got to the store early are the one's who scored. Either that or personally know the store manager who gives you a favour.

      • +4

Miracles can happen especially when you order very early.

That's the key with these price error deals, the earlier you get in the more likely you are to get the win!

The other thing can be moderation too…the DSE guys told me that heaps of orders were placed after mine, heaps were rejected; and all orders for multiple units there were culled instantly…sometimes, if you get greedy you get nothing! ;)

        • +4

That's good. The person who ordered 9 is just asking for trouble.

  • +1

Ordered 3 last night with Click and Collect in Helensvale, QLD.
Received the confirmation email and SMS, picked them up with no problems :) guess it's just the luck of the draw on what the store manager does or doesn't do.

    • What time did you pick it up from the store?.

      • +1

I got the "your order is now ready for collection" SMS at 9:22 and I picked them up around 11.

  • +1

Received email confirmation at 9.23am saying the order is ready to pick up from Dicksmith Southland(Vic). Got a call from the store at 10.39am saying the order can't be processed due to stock descrepency. FU dicksmith.

  • Got confirmation to pick up (Port Macquarie NSW) but then got called an hour later to tell me of the price error and the website team will give me a refund. Lame.

  • +1

Fail DS! Just got declined at the Norwood SA store. Either honor your mistake Dick or notify your customers before they arrive to pick it up.

    • +1

Must have been at the same time as me pretty much!!

      • +1

Most probably. You hit the Norwood store? Young guy looked at me like he had been through the same process a hundred times today.

        • +1

Yeh, same here. I figured I'd show my disappointment but I wasn't about to take it out on the poor guy - not his fault yet he has to pick up the pieces

  • Ordered mine last night. SMS and email this morning saying it's ready. But just got turned down in store at Norwood SA. Assistant said that they'd recited an email and had already turned down a lot of people. I was hoping that since I hadn't received a call it'd be alright but apparently not.
    Classic dick…

    • +2

I'd say once they sent an SMS that it is ready and you actually go to the shop they have no leg to stand on legally - they would be liable for damages (time wasted and cost of travel to shop). Shame on them!

No news here at all yet, placed order last night, no further communication since. Will pop into shop later to see what they have to say…

  • Picked mine up earlier. Thanks OP. Unlucky for the rest :(

  • +1

Picked mine up no problems Brissy North side at 12. They new it was a price error though.

    • Which store was it?

  • Just got back from Northpark SA, flatly refused to honour my purchase and trying to lie to me that they informed me within reasonable time manner. Well, told him that the only message I received was ready for collection and that's it. No calls or emails whatsoever, only news to me when I went to pick it up. Let's see what ACCC have to say about this misleading advertising.

    • +2

Let's see what ACCC have to say about this misleading advertising.

Nothing. It was a pricing error. That possibility was pointed out 22 minutes into this deal. Merchant does not have to supply goods at promoted price if it is a pricing error. DS t&c also cover this.

Even an eminent OzBargainer pointed that out 60 minutes into the deal ;-)

      Off to pick mine up.

      • +4

The issue is I was mislead by telling me that it is confirmed (received text message) and ready for pick up! Don't care if its a pricing error but I was ONLY told when I'm at their counter and lied to me I was informed within "reasonable" time. If they called up or email me immediately, surely I can accept it but not when I spend my time driving over there and told me in the face, nope, can't do it.

        • +1

Still not an ACCC matter, as DS can say it was just an issue relating to poor communication at few stores over a pricing error. It's an internal problem with DS systems, staffing, policies, not deceptive conduct. Piss poor though.

    • +1

let me know how you go with ACCC.

      • -2

I've lodged my complaint with ACCC seeing that DSE will fool around regardless.

  • Got refused in cannon hill, QLD, did anyone manage to get one from over there?

    • +1

Staff member from Cannon Hill transferred to neighbouring Carindale, and looked after our orders so well. Cannon Hill's loss.

    • Suggest try again, or approach manager at Carindale store. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165876?page=3#comment-2311…

    • Yes, Picked one up with no problems (Cannon Hill, QLD) yesterday arvo!

  • +4

Ordered mine last night, got email confirmation 10 am this morning collected without any problems at all
    Kippa-ring QLD store

    • Awesome, that's where I need to get mine from too. Thanks :)

      • +1

I received the generic cancellation email yet thought I'd try my luck anyway.
I sent my wife down with the order number and they gave her the order no questions asked.

  • Failed to pick mine up in Melbourne CBD store, they told me they have run out of stock, more than 50 people came in this morning to get their USB but all failed, LAME!!
